Lock and lube tip help free up my hands and easier release. For zerks that don’t take grease , handheld butane torch to soften old hard grease. Works for me . Thank u for great content

I just did mine today. there were 6 zerk fittings total, 3 on the drive shaft connecting to differential, and another 3 on the shaft just under the driver's side. the clunk/thud definitely improved. thanks for the video.

I just bought our 2nd GX470, also an 04' with 215k. Other than a few small issues and the clunk it's in VG condition. I'll be lubing the DS zirks tomorrow, hope your clunk went away with the re lube job?

I have an 07 Toyota sequoia that I have the clunk at stops... it doesn't do it every stop but if making a hard stop it tends to clunk when letting back off the brake and back on the accelerator. My sequoia is 07 sr5 and 2wd. For the life of me I cannot find any zerks/zerk fittings to put grease into on the drive shaft. Is it possible there are none? I appreciate your time and well done video!

Can you do this with the car on the ground? I understand you may have to move the car to spin the shaft to get to all the fittings, but other than that is there anything wrong with just doing this unlifted with the car in park?

It will come back (clunk / thump). Best thing you can do is replace the driveshaft with the new part number which was designed for this fix. There is a TSB on it. Shaft is rather inexpensive, about $350 shipped.

Agreed you are correct, I mentioned the part, but for most of my followers this is the inexpensive “fix” for now. Definitely not permanent in most instances.

Thank you for the vids on the GX's, they come in handy. I generally use black marine graphite grease for anything that may get wet and needs grease. Will this be okay or do you recommend a certain type, I noticed your grease was red? Thanks and enjoy the weekend.

I get a clunk from time to time, usually right after coming to a stop or right after letting off of the break pedal to start to go. I thought I heard that Lexus had a recall or came out with a new driveline to correct the clunk but don't know if that is true.

The “Silver Bullet” made it to KY with no “clunking” from the shaft. What a great vehicle. Do you just grease the shaft when it starts clunking or should it just be annual preventative maintenance?

As needed. There’s a TSB replacement for the driveshaft, but I don’t think it’s necessary until it’s bad and grease won’t keep it away.
