I was a freshman in high school when Eric was a senior. I was there when Eric Gordan played Greg Oden at Hinkle Fieldhouse, the greatest basketball game I do believe I will have the honor of witnessing. Greg Oden was number one in the country his Sophmore, Junior and Senior year, truly an unbelievable level of basketball coming out of Indy back then.

I played basketball in central Indy the same time EJ was. He was a junior or senior when I was a freshman. North Central scrimmaged our varsity before the season and seeing somebody up close who was basically an NBA player already torch a bunch of short scrawny white boys like myself was quite an experience. I learned that day I should probably get to thinking about a career other than hoopin lol. 2 or 3 dribbles full court and dunk. Or wetting 3s from literally half court. He was an animal.

Even though Michael was pissed at Gordon for showing up his kids, I'm sure Michael appreciated Gordon's talent during that rout against his kids because Michael is not only an NBA legend, but he is also a die hard fan of the game. Inviting Gordon to his tournament shows why Michael Jordan is a true class icon.

Gordon had to drastically change his game due to his injuries when many other players would have given up. He was launching 30ft 3s before it even became a thing. He didn't have the mobility to create space, and so he created it using distance. I always watch his games and think he's probably the most underated "what-if" story. Mad respect for him to remain humble as a good role player even when he had elite level stuff for amazing things.

It happens, in Latvia where I am from our basketball legend from the 80s wanted his both sons to play in NBA one day, a feat he could not do because he was in Soviet Union at his prime... his sons played in the national team and were decent enough but never could reach NBA level, at the same time a local basketball coach and local level former player in a small town coached his two sons, Dairis and Davis Bertans and both of them did get to NBA, one is there still, another had a brief stint in New Orleans Pelicans, just 12 games but he got there. Genes are not everything and also maybe the best player is not the best coach... and also the pressure is a factor

Perhaps but the seed of greatness is implanted in their DNA. All they need to do is get on that Lavar Ball plan. Find a woman with athletics in her DNA and make babies. The greatness gene skipped a generation but is still there. I don't think Jordan spent enough time with his sons. Like Dell Curry did or like the current generation of players are doing. I remember Jordan's son and Patrick Ewing Jr. playing around. Jordan, Barkley, Mourning, Mutombo all in attendance and those two children playing on a kiddie rim. Meanwhile I see Dell's sons getting up shots before the game, halftime, and on timeouts. The best player ever produced ok. One of the best shooters at the time produced the best shooters ever. Way to go Poppa Curry👈😎👍
