It's incredible how the brain remembers things even when you think it is not. After some time you get surprised how you understand words you noticed long time ago but never invested any counscious effort to memorize them. Since I noticed this, I no longer dispair during low phases of the process.
That's one hell of an ending to a video!

I've been learning Czech for five months and I had a eureka moment when you read out the comment, "určitě se ještě česky?" I understood the question right off the bat. Eureka!
I have been studying Czech for 12 months. Through duolingo. I’ve found your comments most helpful. Thank you.

Just had my first conversation in french in which i felt the ability to Express myself relatively easily. If I didn't come across your videos I would never have gotten this far! So thank you Steve you're doing the world a service
I am 4 weeks into learning Swedish. Most of what I listen to, I understand about 10%, and more when I can get the transcript. Music is fun to sing along to if I can find the lyrics, and I hum or sing lines during the day. I can chuckle at the comedians on the SVT humor channel sometimes, but I know I would laugh out loud when I know more words and context. A couple books have been ordered from amazon which are eagerly anticipated gifts to myself for Christmas. I am having fun, and the goal of understanding these things is pulling me forward. Thank you for your encouragement, fellow Canadian!

Awesome talent thanks

LingQ is a great idea and it's well executed, but it lacks the most important: accessibility. The dollar is unfortunately too expensive for residents of countries with weaker currencies. Do you have a plan to try and solve that issue?

With the native language issue, I think, at least to me, it represents a possibility. Whereas native speakers are the goal of language learning, 2nd language speakers prove that the language is scalable. That's just my two cents.
Peace be with you from Morocco, teacher
J'apprends le français depuis un an mais ma petite amie est mexicaine et elle parle espagnol et anglais. Mon vocabulaire est limité en espagnol mais je parle espagnol mieux que lorsque je parle français. Vous avez raison si vous parlez beaucoup, cela aide. Si j'ai fais beaucoup d'erreurs je suis désolé. Merci pour tes vidéos et au revoir à bientôt.

I have had a few small eureka moments in Korean. One time my mom was watching a K-drama, I wasn’t looking at the television (I was busy with something else), and suddenly I started laughing. Mom looked at me confused. Then I told her I understood what they said and what they said was hilarious.

Hi Steve I just found your channel. V happy that I have! I am a native English speaker, I've been living in Italy for 7 months. Spent the last three attending an intensive language course. Got to B2 level Italian (grammar wise). But every time someone speaks to me in Italian my mind blanks! I panic and can't understand the question and although I've studied grammar alot - I forget everything. I am afraid that I may be a lost cause. I am hoping to stay in Italy long term but I feel isolated when I can't speak to people. Any advice v welcome. Thanks 😊

just find a friend who you can speak with daily and with time try to somehow talk to strangers, it's actually not about language, more about psychology I think

I'd spend NO time on grammar at all anymore. If you can, get on lingq and listen and read as much as you can there. But since you already live in Italy, just start talking with anyone and everybody that will listen/talk with you. Make a commitment to yourself to speak as little English as possible, and as much Italian as you can. That's it!

Focus on comprehension. That is the fundamental skills. That means doing a lot of listening. And you need to access the transcript of what you're listening to in order to see what the words are. Listen and read over and over again. Only then will the grammar exclamations start to make sense and only then will you have a chance to speak correctly.
you are a legend
Eureka is the ancient Greek εύρηκα, pronounced 'evrika, which means I found(it).
