That Didn't Go To Plan | Van Life Realities

Full-time Van Life UK comes with its problems. This week we talk about some of the harsh van life realities we face being full-time van lifers in the UK and how we tackle them.
We've living in the UK full-time in our 1989 Talbot Express Campervan for the past 7 months. It can get tricky at times to find overnight park ups, water and electricity, especially in England. But what happens when your van breaks down in the middle of know where. What do you do, where do you go and what's happening next.

Who are Trist and Kez
We’re Trist and Kez, a couple in their 40’s. We’ve sold everything for a life on the road. Come and join us as we show you our Van life UK Travel Series. We show the best spots for van camping, hiking and exploring, from the countryside to the coastline of our home island.
👫🐶 Our aim as (another) van life couple (and our dog and cat) is to document each UK road trip we take, sharing tips and tricks for van camping in the UK. In summary, we want everyone to be able to access the magic that van life UK opens to us all. Adventures in the great outdoors. We also appreciate that travelling in a van with a dog isn't always the easiest, therefore everywhere we share is 100% dog-friendly.

    Thanks Yvonne 🙏. Gertie is getting there 😎. Couldn’t agree more, so many people are on the go a lot of the time. Something I’ve tried to slow myself down with. You never know how long van life will last, so enjoying each moment, whatever life throws at you is key. Have an awesome day 😎🤙🏽

    Campsites are defo what a lot of full timers use (on YT) as a means to empty, fill, recharge and of course have a shower 🎉 I’m guessing the vibe is, that when you have a home on wheels, well, then wheels gotta turn ❤

    Yeah we’ve tried to only use campsites for those reasons. But that does result in moving a lot. We’ve really enjoyed being in one place for a bit, whilst we get Gertie sorted. Guess we’re still trying to find the balance of what we need. Sometimes it’s keeping moving and other times it’s slowing down a bit 🤙🏽

    Another inspiring video. We are Brighton based with a Frenchie and want to go full time Vanlife too. Might have to get your tips for a mechanic. Just wondering how you handle leaving your dog in the van and hen you need to pop in to a shop where he’s not allowed or to the cinema? Is there a heat gauge or air conditioning

    Genuine question with kindness - why not venture in to Europe where it’s prettier/warmer? Or is that next?

  • @TristandKez

    @TristandKez

    Good question! We do have plans to go to Europe and would have ideally been there this winter. But with the van issues, we both felt it was better to tackle them here and not abroad 🤣. Then before you know it we’re at the end of February 🤪. Plus the Frank isn’t the biggest fan of vets… So we’re putting Europe on hold for a little bit. But it’s definitely on the cards.

    I’m just watching your video where you are in a campsite for a few days and you mention that you had to stop because of technical issues which made you catch up with Work etc, just because we live in a van it doesn’t mean we have to do everything a hundred miles an hour, life is way too short to rush around and sometimes it’s good to stop for a day couple of days or even a week or maybe even a month somewhere if you like it, my only issue with a Van life is making sure that I never ever run out of milk for my tea and that is the only Van life issue I can ever imagine cropping up LOL, also you just mention about you see things or read things about what other people are doing on Instagram, don’t live your life through other peoples life, it’s your Van life so don’t overcomplicate it, don’t worry about stuff, and just enjoy it, please don’t think I’m preaching because I’m not I’ve done this life for about eight years and it is the easiest life I could’ve ever imagined to be doing, some people stress about finding water well there are shops to buy water in and some people moan about emptying the toilet water away is around to keep your toilet as empty as possible if you’re gonna be off grid or nowhere to empty it for long periods of time, I live in middle England so if you’re ever near this way just let me know and we will meet up and I will make you the best cup of tea you’ve ever tasted LOL, And the very last thing is that I’ve never stressed out in my life about anything because life is too short for that plus I’ll probably wired different to many people LOL, And yes before anybody says anything I get that life gets in the way of an awful lot of things to many people so I’m not saying stress isn’t a thing because just because I don’t suffer from it it doesn’t mean isn’t… Wow that was just a bit more than a comment don’t you think more like War and peace LOL
