This song made Grace Slick the oldest female artist with a #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1987 at the age of 47, a record she held until Cher topped the charts 12 years later with Believe at the age of 52.

This band went full circle. Started out as Jefferson Airplane. Then, they decided to be more modern as Jefferson Starship. As the name change happened, Mickey Thomas joined the band as co-lead singer. Then, as founding member Paul Kantor quit the group the group became Starship. In 85 and 86 this band had MONSTER number one hits with We Built This City in 85 and Nothing's Gonna Stop Us in 86. A couple of years later Grace quit the band. A few years later Paul decided to gather the original members and be Jefferson Airplane again.

So many 80's songs had that upbeat, positive, can-do-anything vibe that's missing in today's music. Yes, a lot of it was cheesy, but the music was BIG and had such an amazing, polished sound. I miss that era so much.

They dropped the "Jefferson" because Paul Kantner left the band and he and Grace Slick jointly owned the name "Jefferson Starship". He declined to allow the band to continue under that name, threatening a lawsuit. The biggest difference between Jefferson Starship and Starship is that Jefferson Starship wrote all of their own material. Starship did not.

This is from the movie Mannequin with Kim Cattrall and Andrew McCarthy. It was a huge hit at the time along with the song that Starship sang to go with it. Starship used to be Jefferson Starship and they are fantastic. You need to listen to Jane, Sarah, No Way Out, and countless other songs that they have. You already seen Mickey when you did Elvin Bishop Fooled Around and Fell in Love. He was the one who sang that song and I absolutely adore the Starship and him for sure.

"Miracles"(pre Mickey Thomas) is more of an Amber style of song. Mickey Thomas and Grace Slick are the lead singers. Thomas was the singer for "Fooled around and fell in love" that you reviewed about a month ago.

Great 80s movie... a must watch comedy romance. They came out with a sequel but it wasn't anything special. Kim Cattrall of Sex in the City fame is the love interest. At the beginning of the movie you find out that the woman was an Egyptian princess who was disobedient and didn't want to be put into an arranged marriage. She prays to the gods to help her find true love and her spirit is cursed. You find all this out in the opening scene. In that video they substitute the lead singer of Starship (Grace Slick) for the mannequin sometimes. She is the brunette. The blonde you see sometimes is Kim

Mannequin was a cool romcom. This was during a comeback period for Starship in the '80s. We built this city and Sara were big for them in the '80s as well. Check out anything 38 Special, you'll love it

This song is very special to us. Right around the time this was a hit, my husband and I got back together (after a 3 year 'hiatus' ....we were on a break!! LOL!!) We listened to this song every day and we still consider it 'our' song. (along with "Groovy Kind of Love' by Phil Collins!!) Some thought we were making a mistake and we wouldn't last. We proved them wrong. We are celebrating 32 years of marriage this year. 34 years together and 38 years since we first met. #Nothing'sGonnaStopUsNow

Finally, the later incarnation of Jefferson Airplane, featuring the amazing Grace Slick (the vocalist in "White Rabbit") and Mickey Thomas (the vocalist on "Fooled Around and Fell in Love"). I'm sure you guys will get around to "We Built This City" eventually, but IMHO "It's Not Enough" and "Sara" are better songs. This song was used in the 80s movie "Mannequin" starring Andrew McCarthy and Sex in the City's Kim Cattrall.

Thought for sure that Amber would recognize Grace Slick's voice from the Woodstock videos, but she did look a lot different almost 20 years later with the big 80s hair. Grace and Janis were good friends who led two of the biggest bands to come out of San Francisco in the hippie era : Big Brother and the Holding Co. and Jefferson Airplane.

J/Amber, you'll love Jefferson Starships "Miracles", "Count On Me" and "Play On Love". Chronologically it was Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship and then Starship. You need a scorecard to keep track of the personnel! Grace Slick was in all 3.

The lady singer is Catherine E. Richardson (born February 21, 1969) an American singer, songwriter, actress, and narrator from the Chicago suburbs in Illinois. She is the lead singer for the band Jefferson Starship and her own Cathy Richardson Band, and has performed the Janis Joplin parts for Joplin's former band Big Brother and the Holding Company.

The great Grace Slick of the 1960's pioneering incarnation of Jefferson Airplane, then the reformed and updated version in the 70's, Jefferson Starship, then a final line-up change called Starship. She is a rock icon of that era. True story: I missed hanging with Grace some 15 years ago. I was doing some editing work with one of her friends (RIP Bara). We were scheduled to work at Bara's seaside Malibu apartment in the evening, but she called to delay because a friend was stopping by. It was only when I got there I learned that friend was Grace Slick! I remember grabbing my face, spinning in circles, shouting, "Why didn't you tell me!?" Maybe it was a good thing, because I would have probably been hitting on her the whole time! Sure, she was well into her 60's, but "Nothing Would Have Stopped Me," then, or now! Hi Grace! Call me! I have Bara stories. Halloween 2006, the fire...

I think it could be fun that you react next to "We built this city" by starship. It is a controversy of a song. It received a grammy award to best rock vocal performance by duo but it also has been top of many many lists of worst songs ever. I find it awesome. everytime i hear it it brings me joy and autentic smile. I'd love to hear your opinions. also, if you ever do a movie reaction channel, go check mannequin, the movie that this song is from, so fun

Seriously! I don't understand why that song is considered so bad. Of all the terrible songs in Rock History? It makes no sense to me. I love it. I would put Sara WAY below We Built this City. That song bores me to tears. And I am a HUGE fan of Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship. Starship had a few good songs.

I’ll be honest- and I didn’t want to admit it at first… but mickey is far superior to be frank. His tone and range are phenomenal. I never even realized at first back then that he was the one hitting all the falsetto high notes. Both great singers though.

OMG - you guys just put me in my happy place!!! This is from Mannequin where she comes alive at night - and has a love story with the main lead. Jordan - you got so into the song with your eyes shut - that you totally missed the cool ending of the video. Where the lead singers also turned into mannequins at the very end. Getting TOO lost in the music - sometimes makes you miss some awesome video moments. Especially in 80's videos. On that note I'd like to put in a request for the official Legs video by ZZ Top. Cheers from Canada :)
