That about knocked me right off the kayak | Beautiful day kayak fishing Hawaii | Catch clean cook

Спорт

In this video a couple of friends and I head out in an area that is normally inacessible due to the trade winds. It proved to be very difficult to catch bait, but I got lucky and picked up 3. I wasn't paying attention and my first bait was stolen as I slow trolled out to deep drop. This was my actual first deep drop in 600 feet but it didn't produce fast enough and I headed back into the ledge (200ft) to focus on live baiting. After around 30 minutes of trying all the tricks I managed to hook up to a small yellowfin tuna. I brought him in doing what I normally do (taking way to must time filming) and after seeing the hook down inside it mouth I figured I could get away with shooting some underwater pictures. Right as I was switching the go pro over the yellowfin popped off and swam away cleanly. I was a little bummed but he swam away to fight another day. With only one live bait remaining I put it out in the hopes of getting a mahi mahi, my friend wade had caught one and lost another earlier in the morning. Not long after I brought my Iive bait back in and focused on bottom fishing. After catching a fair amount of small trigger fish I hooked into some thing fighting really hard. It was completely bending over my jigging rod and I had no idea what it was. I wrenched it up and a huge queen trigger fish popped up next to the kayak. I had heard that they were good to eat and after checking that there was no regulation on them I decided to keep it. After that I caught a pretty big table boss also known as a Hawaiian hogfish. I didn't feel like keeping him so I let him go thinking he wouldn't taste very good. Come to find out more recently they actually taste pretty good. The bottom fishing action was slowing down and I put my rig 10 feet off the bottom and stuck rod in the rod holder. A few minutes later out of seemingly no where the pole bent over hard with something ripping drag. This was before I got the camera on and a legitimately almost got knocked off my kayak. It took me a bit to even get the rod out of the holder because the fish was pulling so hard. Fast forward 20 minutes later I had wrenched what I suspected to the surface. The 5ft sandbar shark was planning dead until right by the kayak and then it took off at full speed and my line snapped as it touched the handle of my kage. My other friends had tuned in a few hours earlier, but wade and I were still having fun and we changed to vertical jigging. We ended up having a great session catching several GT each, but it was high lighted by wade trying to read the rating of his pole while fighting a big fish. I stuck that clip at the very end of the video with his permission. Right before heading in some dude came right up to us asking if there were fish here or where the wave buoy was and if we had caught anything. We kind of laughed it off trying not to be mean, but don't be that guy. I attempted to film a catch clean cook but some of the footage was corrupted so it is kind of incomplete. It was one of the best days I've had kayak fishing in Hawaii, I will remember it for a very long time.

Had a great day out the water today in dana point , skunk’d but still. Outta nowhere , 2 weird razor sharp waves walked toward from 80yards . They came quick. I hovered over the first one then then second one rocked me . Took on water in 50 feet . Nothing around me. Think it was dolphins are random rip tide coming but man, that was crazy and peculiar. I don’t get shook mentally often, but that quick little occurrence keeps me on the alert

I've had many encounters spearfishing on Oahu. One year we were on the North shore at a spot before waimea bay and my buddy got bit in the arm by a small tiger. That was a gnarly experience for us, we made a turniqet out of one of our wetsuits and swam my buddy towards shore while the shark circled and followed us into shore. My buddy live to dive another day Wich he did after recovering and that was another heavy experience for him to do that, and he knows it was a mistaken identy.

Roy or blue spotted peacock grouper an introduced species here are know for having ciguatera. I’ve only ever caught 1 and I didn’t eat it. Thanks dude. The smaller GT are totally safe to eat, but I chose to release them most of the time. I do this because they grow fairly slow compared to pelagic species. The big GT can also have ciguatera. The next yellowfin I don’t mess around with 😂
