Karlan (Dee-NI-o) suffers from a particularly personality-altering dementia. The man he was for most of his life has been gone for a year or more, though his body lives on with an intractable brain. His family wanted the best possible situation for him, wanting to care for him, and they hoped to extend remaining time with the husband and father they knew. In light of this they were allowed to take him home from a mental care facility. Medication he had been on that kept him asleep 18-20 hours a day were reduced. He had several indications of self-harm and was no longer the husband and father they had known and loved, but they wanted the best for him. They hadn't seen indication of his development leading to this tragedy. Those who knew Karlan understand this was not a straightforward case of a husband murdering his wife nor father murdering mother, rather a body with diseased-ravaged mind reacting to a situation or hallucination he evidently perceived temporarily. Karlan will probably be kept in a Sedated state now while his body lingers on. The grief of the true situation is heavy enough on his friends and family without drama-seeking media reports or gossip that adds insult to their burden. Keep the family in your prayers and know that this family has lost so much to this disease.
