The three events -- his mom's surgery, the accident, and his father's liver cancer -- were three separate incidents. The accident happened during his trainee days and he initially hid it from everyone, but the label found out not too long after and said they would pay for his school so he wouldn't have to work as a delivery guy anymore. He was treated, but he was plagued with shoulder pain for years until he had surgery in 2020. Due to this injury, he's now doing alternative service instead of becoming an active soldier for his mandatory military service. He believes that we make our own scars, by how we react to the events in our lives. But as you can see in the previous two videos, his scar healed over time as he worked through his traumas and issues, and his street gang leader character doesn't have the scar anymore. You saw that he failed to open the door at the end of the MV, but after he released his album "D-Day" (April) that includes this song, he went on a world solo tour (April-August) and in his very last show in Seoul, at the very end of the show, there was the white door on stage, and he ended his whole tour by finally opening the door, waving to the audience and smiling, walking through the door and closing it behind him. You can imagine how powerful this symbolic gesture was to us his fans, who knew his story and who had watched this MV. He was letting us know that he had successfully worked through his traumas. Indeed, he had seemed happier and at peace with himself. If you go through his entire discography, you can actually see him progress from being an angry, ambitious young man in his first mixtape "Agust D" (2016) to some soul-searching in "D-2" (2020) to someone at peace with himself in "D-Day" (2023). He created the persona Agust D to talk about his personal issues, but since they are now resolved, he is retiring the persona. His tour was all about integrating his three personas (Agust D, Suga, Min Yoongi) into one. How he can express his life through his music is incredible. He's a true artist.

Wow that’s incredible. I really appreciate you putting this comment together. That’s incredibly interesting. It seems like the merging of the three should be the inevitable progression of the artists. Either way thanks so much for this comment 😀

I feel like you should copy and post this comment under every reaction to AMYGDALA - you put the whole story in a compressed yet full package really nicely
His parents are both still alive. His mother had heart surgery right after he was born and must have had a pace-maker implanted which is why he mentions the sound of his mother's heat "ticking" in the second verse. His father was diagnosed with liver cancer, but he is okay now, and he was a bike messenger while a trainee to earn money for tuition and he was in a pretty bad accident and messed up his shoulder. He was afraid to tell Big Hit because he thought they may let him go, but eventually he told them and they made him quit that job and helped him pay for his tuition.

Wow what an incredible story. Lends a whole new perspective to this man
Such a devastatingly beautiful video. He's been so brave to speak about his past, and I feel so honored that he chose to share it with us.
*buckles up* Let's do this! Thanks for following the whole trilogy through, brother.

You’re very welcome friend!
This is the trilogy for the music videos, but the albums are a trilogy too - 'Agust D' (2016), 'D-2' (2020) and 'D-Day' (2023). It's 30 tracks in total of his journey from trauma to healing.
1993 is his birth year, that's it, no Korea events relation here.
2:28 - I'll be sending over some videos helping explain but part of this, as the video shows, is that while Yoongi (Agust D/Suga) was a delivery driver back during his trainee days he got into an accident and badly injured his shoulder. He was so scared of losing his shot that he hid his injury from the company. Throughout most of his time with BTS he was hiding a severe pain and trauma. When eventually he revealed the situation to the label, they were like "...we would have helped you!"

Yesss the real stories of Yoongi aka SUGA aka Agust D of BTS
You will be relieved to know Yoongi went through the white door at the end of his very last concert before he had to do his national service. I do not know your name. His many names ...Min Yoongi Gloss, Suga, Agust D. As a teenager this was my visualisation...you are standing alone ankle deep in lake of shit. As you turn around every direction is just the same as far as the eye can see. It does matter which direction I go in. I do not need to know the right direction. I just need to plod on till I hit the shore. That is when I can evaluate where I am. If I need to go in the opposite direction at least I can trudge around the perimeter.

Oh wow that’s awesome. Great visualization. You always have to figure out a way to manage even in that lake of shit 😀😀

@@notrashtolerated that lake of shit is now many happy decades behind me. I see so many people flounder because they expect too much of themselves. They think they need to know the answers, know the right direction, be something they are not. None of that is right. Literally all you need to acknowledge is as a human you are the most adaptable animal on the entire planet. That is why we stretch from Arctic tundra to deserts. All you have to do is live the best way you can day to day and have a single direction to aim for. Doesn't matter if you ever get there. It just stops you floundering and going round in circles. Meanwhile you exist. That's enough. The sky is blue, the birds sing the trees heal. Forget the complications and make it simple.
1:31 - Good observation, you're seeing the contrast in scope. The trilogy begins with Daechwita and the royal palace contrasted with the dirty side streets. It's a huge space to begin to explore the themes and the conflict of self. Next it's narrowed down to a single neighborhood within a city and the power difference between the two sides of self is much smaller - gangster and corrupt cop. Now this is suggesting something far more intimate already.

The Box cutter scar symbolises self harm or self destructive tendencies.

I see. Thank you for the background on that😀
The Amygdala is where we process our emotion, which means also trauma - in part that is how we learn: self-protection, social cues etc. . Have you ever felt so "hurt" that you wish you were dead? I know how that feels but it has been a while. What I learned was that while I felt it that tomorrow I wouldn't feel this way and would even be able to laugh. I didn't want to "die": i wanted to stop feeling that way. Emotions can be very missleading but we DO need to process them - everything else is unhealthy and can lead to break-downs/depression later. Min Yoongi dealt with it. There is a movie (Road to D-Day) about the creation of his album D-Day and here he speaks about how it was made while talking to another member. As far as I know he is learning how to be a therapist (university) because he does want to help other people not to feel like he did. There is so many different forms of intelligence between the members and so much creativity! They can make people think if they are willing to listen. A "short" intro is called Bangtan 7 by Taylor Mari (she is working on an uodate because the members do so much every year). The "longer" version is called "The Rise of Bangtan"-series and puts most of their history in context. Unfortunately Aneesa teased for a 22nd (?) chapter that she never made - which would still not reach till the current day - so it ends in - I believe - 2018 - but it is very good (the bonus is also very funny). You nice! keep going! 💜
This MV always makes me...cry....because of the stories of him self

16:26 - For each of the trilogy I'll send you the videos to watch for a review. There's going to be a DKDTV or other "Explained by a Korean" and then a behind the scenes video showing the filming process with insights from Yoongi.
