THALIA GOLDSTEIN: Thinking On Stage: The Creativity of Theatre Education

Theatre has long been tied to such disparate outcomes as imagination, empathy, emotional understanding and creativity. However, research on what actually happens in a theatre classroom and how the skills and habits of mind built by acting classes may be tied to social, emotional, and cognitive outcomes has been lacking. In this talk, Dr. Goldstein will discuss the elements of theatre education that integrate, use, and may foster both social and cognitive creativity for adolescents, and how theatre spaces are safe and contained environments for embodying and engaging with new material.
