It takes effort to learn the language and then the courage to go out on the streets and talk to natives about all these topics. Well done to you. I love hearing the perspective of the thais, both those in Thailand but also those who live abroad themselves. You have really found your place here on KZread. Keep it up

GraengJai is so hard to explain. I always say “I feel bad” or “I don’t want to be a burden” as substitute words in English. but it’s about putting yourself in the another person’s shoes and be extra considerate. Talk about traditions and customs, I remember that as a kid in Thailand, it’s common to lower your head when you walk pass elderly people especially in school to be polite. I kept doing that for years in the US when I first moved here.

I take you there". I can't tell you the number of times that happened to me in a taxi. Like it or not but that is the impression they are giving to foreigners

Foreigners are went Thailand and have sex with sex workers then think that all Thai girls do sex service. Not all Thai girls can do sex service everyone body is different. Please take time to know them before you judge them are prostitute.

Very interesting to get a true insight of Thai peoples' opinions and perspectives. Having seen the stats, the majority of the consumption/consumer base, for prostitution in Thailand, is Thai nationals and by a country mile. This is quite simply because places like Pattay and Patong, and collectively tiny when compared to the whole of the rest of the country. It is also interesting for there to be such a perspective particularly when in several states in Australia prostitution (in brothels) is either licensed or decriminalised, which is a considerable step beyond the Thai authorities' stance which is to not generally prosecute or go after it in terms of policing priorities.

Betong, Phu Chi Fah, Nan, Koh Lipe, Koh Chang, Khao Sam Roi Yot, Kaeng Krachan, Kanchanaburi, Loei, Pai, Mae Salong, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Hat Yai and many more - it's an incredible country ❤ 🇹🇭

The thing with prostitution is that it used to be in some sort, a profession. Now, it's more of a lifestyle. Prostitution these days, are not contained in certain spaces. It's widespread in the online community, too. So, the basis is not whether it's situated in highly-touristic areas, though generally it is. Over the years, it's become a way of living. Sadly, we see it being normalized in Thailand, too. People don't necessarily call it as it is but it's more nuanced as it blends well with the materialistic mentality and tolerant culture.

I think for those farangs who like to visit Thailand. It really depends on where they come from in their own country. Whether it be a city or from a rural part. I would think for more people who are from big cities like myself we will not be so impressed with Bangkok and would want to venture out to the rural parts of Thailand. But at the same time Bangkok does offer a lot of nightlife so for myself I would also be interested in that

I agree. Me and my foreigner friends who come from suburb and rural areas always enjoy spending time in the big city like Bangkok and its suburbs more than traveling to other rural parts in Thailand. Anyway, I think the public transportation is another factor because it's really hard to find in many rural parts, like in my home town, I had to wait for 3-4 hours for a bus.

Prostitution is through out Thailand it's not only in the major tourist areas, every town has brothels or little clubs where you can take the women out. These places aren't catering to tourist. There is a bigger sex industry catering to the locals than tourist the sex industry catering to tourist is more in your face. Where the local sex industry is a bit more subtle.

The first one about street food. I think its somewhat true. It’s not about the food being dirty, but it’s more about how our stomach are not used to the food and ingredients overseas. Some people get food poisoning or stomachache when traveling because they might have a more sensitive stomach too. That said, my brother who is Thai would always suggest that you go for hot food if it’s street food. And if you want to be really safe, then go to the ones that is extended from a restaurant because that means they have clean water at all times. Also Mall food is pretty amazing in Thailand. I heard that they are usually street vendors that did so well that they were able to open a stall in the mall.

The hygiene factor here is lagging behind the developed countries. Many of the mobile venders are hauking meat that has been exposed for several hours as the flys and other insects have injected their fill . Bacteria begins as the food is exposed to the air. Working in the food industry one knows that food should be covered. I got sick eating from 1 chicken vendor who had all her meat cooked for an unknown time period. Fruit that is cut and exposed is also prone to bacteria. Better to eat in the shopping in the centre commmercial where the environment is clean and fresh water is available.

As a native it's hard to say if Thai food is always spicy because I've been eating these stuff all my life. Even for Thai people some don't seem to be able to tolerate a tiny bit of chili. Spiciness seems to be subjective. As time goes on food seems to be much less spicy to accommodate tourists. I have seen some foreigners drank a litre of water just after they've eaten chicken sauce(was meant to be sweet!). For Greng-Jai (เกรงใจ) I think it's somewhere between being mindful respectful and humble. I laughed so hard at "awe of heart" that isn't quite right but it's close. (Not just to elders but to your peers and juniors). Now a day there's a lot foreigners in the country not just white people, I hear foreign language half of the time while travelling throughout the country. First time here and what surprises me is that your Thai fluency is better than me. We got too many dialects and accents here my brain hurts talking to someone not from my region. (Same word dif region = dif meaning). Been to some dive shop owned by Farang and realized that there're a lot of Farangs' who can speak Thai more fluent than many natives lmao

It’s not to save face 😂 for normal Thai people who don’t seek for prostitutes you really don’t feel much of their existent.

Sometimes true. Many times....Surprising as it is when you see the many many absolutely disgusting places to eat everywhere...i've never seen a case of food poisoning either in 15 years....Greng jai...many fakes too if you look deeper...for instance in bussiness....Very hard to see through if you are new here..

Well, first of all we have to commit that there is a set worker here. Okay? And secondly why we didn't have welfare for them. Atleast give them a health check or a protection solution or see educational. Many Thai has value that sex is something we not talk too publicly but it's a human nature the government have a duty to educate about sex education to the kids not tell them to don't talk about it, you must teaching them about it.
