I kind of get fed up with the self rightous comments like "I will go somewhere else...", etc. If you like coming to Thailand and want to continue to do so, then keep your visa record clean and legal. The rules are easily found on the internet and if you don't want to commit to a more expensive visa, allowing more time in Thailand, then you will need to go stay somewhere else so you can come back later and be within the rules. I mean its up to you and no one if forcing you to come? Thanks Ben for your informative videos.

2 land crossings by land per calendar year, Fly in and out people say about the same, but it can be more, Ive done more in one year and was ok, people fly in and out for work all the time. Its also wise to avoid Bangkok airports if you have a few stamps in your passport for doing this. They want people on the correct long term visas. This was all happening a few years before covid and it looks like it is going back to the way it was.

Use Phuket, Chiang Mai thats 2 off the top of my head, they are both international airports as well. Its 100 per cent possible Ive done it many times when I needed to. You fly to Hanoi, Kuala Lumpur , Hong Kong or any other international destination that you can fly to from these airports and fly back into them, once your'e in Thailand you can fly to Bkk without any issue. Might want to do some research before you say things are not possible. @@isanBen

I flew to Thailand 3 times this year. On the first entrance, I got asked how long I planned to stay in Thailand. I said, "30 days." And the immigration officer gave me an exemption stamp for 45 days -- that was in February. I stayed for about 75 days, after getting an extension. I left in April for Cambodia and stayed there for the full month of a 30-day tourist visa there. I returned to Thailand in May, got a 30-day exemption and again paid for an extension. I left the country in July and stayed in Bali for two months on a VOA which I extended. I returned to Thailand in September, got another 30-day exemption and paid for an extension. The only question I was ever asked during that process was, "What's your room number?" I got asked that twice on two separate occasions while getting an extension. So, I entered three times this year, but there was a gap of one month (in Cambodia) and two months (in Indonesia). And I'm planning on going to Laos for a short stay and applying for a tourist visa there to come back to Thailand on -- since I have a girlfriend here. Also, I get dental work, and I'm planning on eventually doing an education visa. But I never had any trouble, so far, as a U.S. citizen on visa exemptions -- three in one year, but no "border/visa runs" until next month. So, I'll see how that goes, when I apply for a Thai tourist visa in Laos.

Before my retirement visa I had no issue doing 3 and even 4 trips to Thailand with no questions other than how long did I plan to stay. I think the key is, I’d be there for 3 weeks, depart and wouldn’t return for 3 months. It’s those that fly out and right back in a day or two later that raise a red flag in the system when their passport is scanned.

Many people go do a visa run for the same thing you are saying , some people just go over the border and get an actual visa the same day or the next day hopping over the border the reason why they opt for the visa its two months instead of 30 days but same concept. Many visa runners or border exception has the same goal but they opt for the viss because it's a longer stay that's all to it. 1 of the differences is you pay for the visa but that doesn't mean you are more more genuine , some people applying for tourist visas work in the Kingdom and some applying for visa exeption are actual tourist and vice versa , sometimes you make it sound like visa runners are more genuine many viss runners run visas only because they already finished their exeption quota.

Both applications can be denied and I don' think 1 is necessary's easier to get than the other. either 1 can be denied entry and I don''t think 1 is stricter than the other you can even have an actual visa already processed and be denied. The intention of the person should not decide if its classified as a border or a visa runs both go to the border.

I wouldn't worry about it. Next time go to Vietnam for a month and apply for a 6 month multi entry tourist visa. This is the one visa these lawyers never talk about and it solves most people who are trying to be perpetual tourist problems. Get the 6 month visa. Stay for 60 days. Renew for 30 days. Do a land crossing. Do it again. Then right before the visa expires do another land crossing. Apply for the 60 day visa then extend it. That's 9 months in the country. Leave for a month after that and reapply. It's not that difficult. The horror stories are usually from dirty ass backpackers.

The answer to your question and everyone else who wrote a comment with a question is very simple. It is up to the Thai immigration officer you get at that time. In most cases they don't care. Think of it from a Thai immigration officers perspective. His real job is to limit the stinky backpackers who are going to do nothing but cause trouble. If you are tatted up and look like you don't take care of yourself you will have a difficult time. If you are put together and don't look like the next guy who is going to play his guitar on the side of the road for some extra cash then you usually won't have an issue. Again not always but this helps a lot.

maybe not really that simple especially if one doesnt want to stay year round. a retirement visa is a big hassle and time consuming. requires a big deposit in a notoriously unsecure thai bank. i see reports of bank fraud almost weekly. farang and even thai staying overseas are targets. requires reporting to immigration and reporting if leaving your province. lots of documentation and acceptable proof of income can be difficult. redundant insurance acceptable to immigration. constantly changing rules and income requirements. i try to spend the (canadian) winter in thailand and pop back for a stay in the summer. total 5-6 months per year. 20 years ago this was simple. now the only solution i have found is fly into thailand with a 2 month TV, an onward ticket to malaysia 90 days after arrival and a return ticket from malaysia back to canada. my last info was one could no longer apply for TV from anywhere but one's home country. to stay 4 months i have to extend my TV for 30 days in thailand and then make a "border run" to malaysia after 90 days. I return to thailand with an return ticket back to malaysia in 30 days. in the summer i just get a 2 month TV and dont extend trying to not exceed the 6 month total stay per calendar year. as inconvenient as this is it still beats the hassle and risks of a retirement visa but i wish there were better options for retired snowbirds. i never really know if the immigration officer will allow me to enter thailand after the border run. with all my passport entry/exit stamps my passport gets scrutinized every time but so far only asked for a bribe once in the last 10 years and so far no deportation.

@@davek1943 i understand you, the thai government is so corrupt their visa system is complete trash. It's a complicated mess that always ends in cheating the system or paying someone out. There was a gruesome murder a millionaire farang in pattaya. the killer was in a motorcycle gang and he was over 50. The thai gov is now looking at reforming the retirement visa because they are learning many of the over 50 farangs do not have what they claim they have in their bank accounts and criminal organizations send their 50+ age gang members out here to spread their criminal enterprise because the thai police can always be paid off. Mix this with a bad world economy and now there are reports of low tourism GDP from the thai gov.
