TH-D75 Unboxing - Honest & Unbiased | HamRadio

Ғылым және технология

I kind of hate myself for doing an unboxing video, but hey I buy all my gear with my own money, so in theory I am allowed to do these things.
So this is a quick peek at the TH-D75 (TH-D75E). In a few days/weeks i can give you my unqualified opinion about it. Maybe compare it with the TH-78E for fun and giggles.

It's all self defence against copyright strikes :-) I just go to remix.kwed.org/ and pick a wicked chiptune of the day. 😆

Looks nice. I like my TH-D72 a lot. But is the price I'm seeing online accurate? That's a crazy price if so.

Yes it is indeed a completely insane price... 😆 This was not a rational decision to go for it, more of a nostalgia & gut decision. All the fond memories of the TH-78E and endless fun I had with it and with PacketRadio 💙. Price will surely drop a bit until summer as we are in the early-buyers-premium-price phase, but nobody really NEEDS a VHF/UHF handset for that price, if you can pickup an Anytone or Baofeng for a fraction of the price that can do the job as well. 🤷‍♂️

i bought 2 thd72 years ago, after some time the ft3d and last was ft2d in second hand, i think i have more than enough. for this price i guess i'll pass this thd75. for a bit more money you'd get a ft710. that's how i measure this toys. thanks for the video, 73's

Yes i still owe you the update video. Sorry for that. I also didn't manage to get an VHF/UHF antenna back onto my roof yet. My impression so far is, that the menu system needs some time to get used to. It took me ages to figure out how to add a station to the FM Radio Channel list. Most unintuitive. - Having said that, most of the settings you frequently need are accessible from the front panel. The D-Star integration that shows you the closest repeater based on GPS coordinates is also nice. So overall it's a nice radio, it's a Kenwood, but is it worth the price-tag? Probably not. My impression is that the UI is somehow stuck between the old Kenwood way where everything is a special keyboard shortcut and a menu system where not everything makes sense. E.g. why all the digital mode stuff is on a second menu parallel to the normal menu is strange. One can only guess that Kenwood thought about using the same menu for radios without D-Star and thus the digital stuff is separated from everything else. Having a specific number assigned to each menu entry is a great idea though. I hope that helps a bit. 73, Tobias

You are right of course... But since when are ham radio operators known to act rational when buying gear? 😆 Nobody NEEDS a TH-D75 when an Anytone or a Baofeng is enough in 90% of all cases... Nobody needs an Elecraft KH-1 or KX4 either when a Xiegu G90 or IC7300 is the rational choice. 🤷‍♂️ I think it's a miracle that we still have so many options today for commercial amateur radio equipment from the very basic to the ridiculously expensive. And I personally would hate to see Kenwood disappear from that list. 73

Looks like D-Star. I use MOTO TRBO. I guess I'm out. Nice looking radio though.
