That's the easiest way to tell if it's fake. Surely after a couple of times, one would try typing it slowly so they could remove the autocorrect pop-up, thus avoiding the issue. Nobody types even FASTER after the 3rd time, trying to fix a typo. Like, the parents repeatedly fucking up a word makes more sense, but the younger people? No way in hell lol. Half of these conversations are faked, but still funny nonetheless.

My friend replaced every single word that could be used in place of "yes" with "no." It took about 20 minutes for anyone to realize what she was actually trying to say.

When I was about 15 I changed a bunch of words that start with "me" to meningitis. Like "me", "men", "meant", "mental", "Mexico", as well as a few random ones like "pizza", "night", or "rythm". I did this on my computer and it connected to our entire family's phones and computers due to apple icloud technoshittery that I don't understand. I thought it would be funny but I never heard anyone complain about it so within a few days I just went crazy and changed words like "it" and "the" to meningitis too. My mom, trying to set up a time with some of my frineds parents to go get pizza, sent a text to everyone that had the word meningitis in it (she stressed this part) "precisely five different times, once for every sentence". Blamed it on my younger brother in front of my sister, then told him my sister had blamed it on him. They both thought the other one had done it. Nobody knew for years.

The "nyoom" one got me so good. I legit can't remember the last time I laughed so hard at anything.

So that explains the picture I once saw where someone was typing “I feel fine” and it was about to change “fine” to one of those long sentences that basically sums up what it is like to have clinical depression and I laughed and cried at the same time because it was so accurate that it hurt. Depression stinks like a dead skunk on asphalt on a hot summer day, but this stuff is funny. If only I knew how to get into my family’s iPhones.

I’m pretty sure this feature is meant to expand acronyms, such as omw becoming on my way when typed-and i personally use it to autocorrect typos that have become part of text predictions. But this is the far superior use

As someone with both an interest in etymology and a tendency to forget the dictionary definitions of words, I have "def." and "ety." set as shortcuts for "define" and "etymology of" respectively. It saves me a lot of time when I'm looking things up. The period at the end distinguishes it from regular abbreviations or partial words/phrases that might come up when I'm typing normally, such as "definitely".

I remember a couple of years ago I found out about this tricked and pranked both of my parents. I replaced common words like “ok” and “thank” to “peach”. My mom asked me what was wrong with her phone so immediately she found out something was wrong. My dad however found out the hard way. He was texting his boss at work about a serious conversation and it autocorrected. “Peach you” instead of “thank you”. He told me he was searching up how to “remove peach from IPhone text” or “why is my iPhone saying peach” until eventually.. he figured it out.
