The NCAA needs to make college football a NATIONAL SPORT, There are other large venues that are indoor, and can shield the players from the cold. If you plan a big bowl game in the north or out west, people will show up. Not all bowl games need to be in SEC territory. UW had to go even closer to Texas's campus last year to beat them. Home field advantage matters, it even mattered in that game, which was low stakes at the time. Josh is right, in that if UW jumps out fast, they will take the crowd out of it, but more than likely the game will not be a blowout in UW's favor, so Texas and SEC schools will always get a huge built in advantage. There are so many Domes up north to play games, even border venues like St. Louis Rams old stadium would be more even in crowd make up.

Houston really doesn’t lean that hard for Texas. There are a lot of Aggie fans, U of H, and out of state schools due to it being such an international business city. I wouldn’t put too much into the idea Texas will have some sort of big home field advantage.

Would much rather play them than Texas with all the Texas fans willing and able to make a 8,9, even 10 hour drive to watch their team play for a national championship.

As a Washington alum and fan, I'd like to point out how well respected Pete Kwiatkowski is in the NW. I'm a big fan of his. In terms of the comments about last years game, I also want to point out both programs have relatively new coaches and are one more year into their system. I don't place much merit on it, although some of the personnel carries over. As far as the model or stats, it is hard to put too much faith in them other then Texas will be good against the run and Washington can pass down field. But for full game stats, I don't think they're as predictive as people think due to injuries, big leads, etc. I would be interested to see a model run on the stats of the first half of every game for the season. If it agreed with the model on the full game, then it lends it credibility. However, I think the model would vary widely and then prompt deeper analysis of who was playing that game, who was hurt, etc. (for the subject team and opponents). After watching some of the Texas Alabama game again and the pressure the Longhorns applied, it shows that front is for real (interestingly, apart from the two picks, Alabama had 2 touchdowns called back on penalty, I believe). Regarding run stats, I think Washington will not be able to run between the tackles much, and especially when expected. However, Washington runs a lot of plays outside and I'm not sure how predictive the stats will be in that scenario, especially with Dillon Johnson having time to get healthy (he cuts back quite well). I do think receivers will get open a lot on both teams. As far as Washington pass defense, that then brings up the question of if the total game yards pass defense mark (bad) or the yards per pass play (I believe in the 20's in national rank, didn't look up) are the more relevant mark. Similar to Texas opponents who had to play catch-up and therefore passed more, Washington's pass defense was in similar position. I suspect both pass defenses are much better than their national rank in ypg. And again, with the receivers on each side, they'll be open repeatedly. Who can get them the ball better. I feel Penix is more accurate down field, but Ewers if very good at it too. The Texas pass rush will greatly determine that balance. If they get home, it'll be tough sledding for Washington. One last thought, since the starting running back went out for Texas, their yards rush per game has increased over 20 yards (per game), over a three-game sample. So, if there is a drop off, it hasn't shown. Best of luck to both teams, I'll be watching how much time Penix has to pass in the first couple quarters as a proxy of who will have most success over the game. GL Longhorns, Go Dawgs!

Absolutely, if Texas can run the ball and score in the redzone then there is no way they can lose. However we've seen the struggles the offensive line has had. The oline will be the deciding factor for Texas. If they can keep Ewers safe and open up holes then it'll be a good game for Texas, however if they struggle to make blocks then it'll be a tough night. Texas has too many weapons to let this game go. I'm happy with what they've done and am satisfied with a playoff appearance, but would absolutely love for them to end with it all.

That's actually a real strategy I agree but I don't think Sarc has it in him to play ball control offense like that. He has a history of throwing the ball even when we could run it up and down the field. That's a tendency where I come from but hell I think we can throw the ball against Washington too if Ewers is on and not wild like he has been in the past in several games. There isn't going to be a calming down period in this game for him, just like Oklahoma. I watched every Washington Game and they should have been beaten several times but the other guys made stupid mistakes and the Huskies don't play when you make mistakes. They will punish you and they have a offense that is hard to catch. You have to jump on them.

The Huskies like when you pick against them, Josh. Keep doing it. Now with Penix finishing 2nd in the Heisman voting, that puts another chip on the shoulder for this Washington team. I find it funny how so many are acting as if Washington shouldn’t even show up, as if a Texas win is written in the stars. It isn’t and the game must be played. I’m aware of the Texas front 7, but also well aware of their issues in the secondary. Penix is good at picking up the blitz, and has 3 NFL caliber receivers who know how to run routes, know how to get open and most importantly, know how to catch the ball. Washington doesn’t have the best defense by any means, but they’re good enough to make the plays needed to give Penix and the Washington offense a chance. Also, Dillon Johnson proved in the 2nd half of the season that he can run the ball. I wish Texas the best of luck and remind their fans not to look past Washington. May the best team win.

Washington is scary because most teams try to make their opponents one dimensional. With Washington, taking away the run plays right into the bread and butter of their offense, the passing game. If we try to take away the passing game, that’s likely not going to happen. I think Texas controlling the time of possession is one way to beat Washington provided they score on every possession, preferably touchdowns. It’s going to be a great game. 🤘Hook ‘Em!🤘

Some observations. Dillion Johnson has been hurt the last few games. He has almost a month to heal since the Pac12 Championship game. McMillian has been hurt and came back the last 2 games. Rome and Penix have been hurt. The huskies get an edge rusher that wasn't eligible until now in Durfee. Add him and Trice on the edges and Quinn will have issues. I say that because Quinn has been sacked 25 times this season. Penix has been sacked 9 times just for comparison. The Texans have been beaten by a lesser team. No team has figured out the Huskies yet and ride a 20 game win streak with healthy players again. Final thought: This will be a great game. I suspect it's going to be like every tough game for the Dawgs and the score will be close in the first half. The second half is when the huskies tighten up, especially in the 4th qrt on defense. My take is if the Huskies are winning by the 3rd qrt. They are winning the game.

But UW beat Oregon. Twice. And yet in the last game UW dominated in all the stats. Oregon's dominating RB's only got 55 yards rushing against UW. Why do that season long stats lie about UW? Because UW was massively injured since game 3 or 4. But now they are 95% healthy. A whole different team now.

I can tell you're a UW fan, so congrats on your team making it to the CFP. That being said, if you think Texas and Oregon are remotely comparable, you are in for a real treat. Texas plays physical. Oregon plays finesse. Ewers is a better QB than Nix. Oregon throws a lot of quick passes and screens, and uses their speed to gain yards. Texas has the best stable of RBs you'll see all season. They have the best WRs you'll see all season, and they have the best defense you'll see all season. Also, the Pac 12 was god awful this year. They got A LOT more credit than they deserved with CU being ranked so early, and Oregon State, and USC. But we found out in the end that it was UW, Oregon, and to a lesser extent Arizona(who would probably be #3 in the Big 12 this year). The Pac 12 was no better than the Big 12 this season, just from watching the games. I hope it's a good game that isn't decided by the refs. I can see either team winning. Both have strengths, both have weaknesses. I'll end on this note: 2 of the final four teams played a CFP team. One of those teams went undefeated in the SEC. Texas beat that team. Best of luck to you and the Huskies!

Oregon's rush defensive numbers are skewed because teams spent most of the year throwing the ball to play catch-up. Texas' rush defense actually played against the leading rusher Ollie Gordon and kept him to 34 yards on 13 carries. With a long of 9 yards the average of the remaining 12 carries is 2 yards. They also held the #3 in rushing yards Tajh Brooks to 95 yards the week before. Funny you bring up the big 12, Oregon almost lost to a big 12 team that went 6-6 this year and lost to Texas 57-7.

They were not asked to run block until week 6 or 7 and when that happened and DJ got healthy he’s averaged over 5 yds per game He put up 100 yds versus Utah who’s ranked just behind and Texas. Oregon, before he ran all over them, was a top 5 run defense, Oregon state is top 15 … so while Texas is the best run defense they’ve faced it’s not like they haven’t played good run defenses. And Deboer is a master of throwing to the perimeter to “run” via short passes. That big d line won’t be able to get there on those plays and if they start playing them , that’s when running lanes form. Then use slants and go deep. No doubt Washington has improved and there really isn't anything negative I can say about Washington that I can't say about Texas except that in the last 3 games Texas has a better "eye test" that Washington. Now that doesn't mean much, but I can't wait for the game to be here.

Only game we should look at with UW is the last game against #5 Oregon. Why? BECAUSE UW HAD MASSIVE INJURIES ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL SINCE GAME 3 or 4! NOW they are 95% healthy! Oregon has the same great massive talent on offense and defense as Texas - both teams are loaded with 4 and 5 star players. If UW can beat #5 Oregon and dominate in all phases of the game (which they did), they can do the same thing with Texas.

Most of the time I have a pretty good idea of who will fare how in playoff games. I have been wrong before, but I have been right much more often than wrong. I called Michigan not being able to handle Georgia in 2021. I have called Washington being trampled by Bama in 2016. Etc etc. This year, I have no idea what is going to happen and I will not be surprised with any combination of outcomes. If Michigan has ever been able to outmuscle a big boy opponent in the playoff era, it's this year. Washington is not the just-shy-of-elite team they were in 2016. Texas is not even close to a pushover. Bama isn't dominant, but who wants to play against a Saban team in the playoffs? If I have to make selections, I am gonna go Washington vs Alabama because of matchups and Saban, but I won't even pretend that's anything but a shot in the dark.

“Texas is the more talented team” 🤔 maybe at DL and LB. If I go position by position Washington looks to be more talented at the most important positions like QB, OL, DE and WR. Overall I’m just not sure where that narrative is coming from.

Since you stipulated “talent”, Washington is not more talented at any of the positions you mentioned. At QB, Penix has more experience, WRs are more productive but that is probably just more a result of Wash passing so much. DE have more experience than Texas and Texas’ O-line is better.

Full season stats on Washington's run game are silly. The first half of the season, they had a lot of ridiculous drives that were like 2 passing plays 75 yards, TD. It was a video game and they didn't need to run. Dillon Johnson was also hurt. They averaged 5 yards per carry in November when the competition heated up and balance was required. It's a very smart offense that uses the whole field and a lot of different guys. Heck, people talk about the 3 NFL WRs - there are really 5 good receivers plus solid TEs.

Josh relies too much on worthless stats and they are worthless. BOth safeties out. Jalen out since half of MSU. Jalen is an NFL receiver who wasn't 100% vs WSU but was vs Oregon in the pac 12. What a diff the offense is with both Odunze and Jalen as #1/2 and Polk as your 3rd. IT's a toss up but relying on seasonal stats to corroborate anything is FOOLISH but expected from Josh

Yeah, better coaching. Deboer has won over 90% of his games in his career. Sark never won 10 games until this year. Sark has only coached good to great talent level teams and still has won less than Deboer who has never had Sark talent. Deboer beat Sark with less talent last year and that was Year 1 when Sark was in Year 2.

Yes, and this shows your lack of depth. The Rose Bowl was the only big bowl tie-in for the PAC-12 and Big-10. Sometimes the Big 10 got a tie-in to the Orange Bowl in Miami. So the Big-10 no matter what, had to get their fans to fly no less than 5 hours to either of their possible big bowls. UW had to Fly 3 hours to their one big bowl. 4 of the 6 big bowls are in SEC territory, and the SEC had tie-ins to all four. It is no wonder that conference has had a big built-in advantage by that alone. @@arieichner5409
