My friend, we do not have enough safety inspections. I propose that we make a new law (punishable by fine, imprisonment and possibly death) that makes it so that an inspector enters your house, at an hour unknown to you, every day, and what he does is inspects your refrigerator to see if there is any bad food in it, he also makes sure that you have picked everything up, you know, anything that someone can trip on, and, of course, he must measure the height of your grass, that would be an eye sore to your neighbor and that may lead your neighbor to commit suicide or homicide. Granted, this is only the tip of the iceberg in regards to what ought to be inspected....all for safety, of course. And, since science has proven that the human body is designed for males to have sexual intercourse with males, we need a law that criminalizes those who think that that kind of sex is unsafe, evil et cetera. Also, maybe all your emails, snail mails, all your talks in your house should be inspected? All your thoughts via AI? My friend, The Ten Commandments, with Christian judges is all we need. 1 John 4:10,11

For some people in the comment section who don't understand the Texas economy we have many people of different languages and cultures who will be driving on the road for the first time half of them barely know how a brake system works and yet some of y'all are expecting them to know how to do a full inspection on a vehicle. I see the car crashes in Texas skyrocketing and I also see more drivers getting pulled over for failing to fix tail lights and headlights because most of the time they're not paying attention and probably don't understand why the tail light is out.

The best thing about TX motor vehicle safety inspections is that they require proof of insurance. So minimally, the "people of different cultures and languages" at least have insurance for 1 out of the 12 months. Safety will not be an issue by eliminating this useless process as the majority of inspection stations merely rush cars through only checking turn signals and lights and collecting money. I mentioned this to our Governor many times in the past. The state inspection is costing many Texans their valuable time as the modern cars of today are much safer built and do require more frequent trips to the repair garage for oil changes and maintenance required by many warranties. Oklahoma is doing just fine without this outdated process.

In TX, you are correct. I'm from an east coast state, and their inspections are very thorough -- starting with your car is up on a lift and all the wheels are removed. That never happens in a TX inspection. They check the lights, maybe the horn, and check the ODB2 for any codes. They might look at your wiper blades if it is a slow day in TX. I see cars on the road all the time in TX that would be illegal as soon as they crossed the state line on the east coast. There, they check brake pads, exhaust system (leaks or too loud), tint levels, headlight alignment, tire age/wear, bumper height (lifted trucks), illegal rims with spikes sticking out, under mounted lights, and an entire list of other things that TX is just meh about.

There’s no need for the inspection. You are either in one of three camps. (1) Your so rich that instead of maintaining your car, you trade in and buy a newer vehicle. (2) You conduct your own maintenance (change fluids and filters and brakes, and check tires). (3) You pay someone else to do the maintenance. If you pay for an oil change, it usually comes with a multi-point check. So there’s is no base for claiming that the TX inspections ensures that cars are safe for the road.
