TEXAN DRIVERS || ENJJPT T-6 Pilot Training, Class 20-01

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is a short film that gives an inside look into Air Force pilot training through the ENJJPT (Euro NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training) Program at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, TX.
Our time spent in phase 2 of Undergraduate Pilot Training (UPT) has been awesome, and we will soon be flying the T-38C in phase 3. Here is a brief look into a day of ENJJPT class 20-01 flying the T6 Texan II, and some of the key elements that make the training mission possible.
Special thanks to our instructors, maintenance, crew chiefs, and support personnel that make the ENJJPT mission possible and for allowing me to produce and develop this short film. Lastly, a big thank you to all of our family and friends that have supported us through our pilot training journey so far. We could not have done it without you!
We hope you enjoy and can't wait to show you what's next!

I always say fighter pilots and CAS pilots are god's angels because they've saved my life on multiple occasions being on the ground. I personally think they're under appreciated. With people thinking they just sit in a cockpit, drop bombs and watch impacts through a little screen. It's further from the truth and I thank y'all for what you guys do up there. It takes a lot of training, but it's necessary considering the quality pilots that are out there on mission. Again, thank you.

... but how will you ever know the "thrill" of waiting 3 to 7 seconds for the engines on a Tweet to finally spool-up after you stuff the throttles on short final? Ah, the heady days of flying a Cessnajet before the concept of the standard instrument panel... with my ass strapped to a Martin-Baker Meet-Your-Maker gunpowder-powered ejection seat - cuz who don't LUV gettin' shot straight up into the air on the end of the world's largest double-barreled shotgun... (rescued a buddy who popped out of his Tweet, inverted on the back side of a Cuban 8 when his controls jammed one sunny Del Rio day so many years ago... he had exactly 3 swings in the chute before hitting terra firma, means he made the right decision with about .0001 sec. to spare)

CAVU skies to all aviators! I was RAF trained...."Unusual attitudes" - under the hood, instructor behind....he pulls hard G to make the gyros tumble, then gives you the aeroplane upside down, going up! What to do? Power back to idle and hold stick firmly in case going backwards. I would chuckle to show I was not scared! The plane will sort it out, no problem. Pilots must BELIEVE they can handle anything because they are so good and so well trained. Fly well, people!

Awesome ground footage dude! good luck in phase 3, t-38s are much more fun....but i may be a little biased...haha. got a few questions for you if you don't mind! Not familiar with Sheppard's base layout, but how did you get the shot at the 3:25 and 2:30 mark? is that from an RSU van on the flight line or something? camera/lenses used for most of the ground ops? i assume everything on the ground used a gimbal and just on foot? some of the shots almost look like you are moving too fast for simply being on foot...

  • @JohnCavassa

I am excited to start flying the T38 for sure! I filmed with a sony A7iii and tamron 28-75 for the vast majority of shots, the zoom amount varied but I loved filming at 50 and 75mm most of the time. Gimbal wise, I used a DJI Ronin M For the fast moving shots at 2:30 and 3:25, I hopped in a small off-road vehicle (not sure what it's called) and filmed out the side with the whole gimbal rig. RSU van probably would have worked better though! For all the other ground ops on the ramp, I was just on foot walking around with the gimbal

Holy crap... were you using 4K on some of those slo-mo shots? How were you able to slow that footage down if the highest frame rate with the Sony A7III on 4K is only 30p?

Beautiful airplane. I have to admit I had not kept up with the training command aircraft since my days in the Marine Corps with the T-28B. Yes we had T-34 weenies back then, but "real men" flew the Trojan. You walked under the wind of the T-28 on pre-flight, and you had to be careful during taxi that the weenie drivers didn't taxi underneath your wing! ha ha . . . All kidding aside, the new T-6 Texan II appears to be very capable primary trainer and I would love to give it a go. I'm glad they chose an upgrade to the weenie that was made in the U.S.A . . . MAGA!
