Tex saves the Habsburg dynasty [Part 7] - Ultimate Admiral Dreadnoughts

#ultimateadmiraldreadnoughts #ultimateadmiral #blackpantslegion
This is not a serious take on naval history, but more a shitpost thereof. Please take everything I say with a grain of salt.
I'm sorry, Elmo Zumwalt.
The game is Ultimate Admiral Dreadnoughts: store.steampowered.com/app/10...
In Ultimate Admiral: Dreadnoughts you play as the head of a navy doing what the head of navies do best - spend entirely too much money on holes in the water, or, in laymans terms, ships. You can design very stupid things. I do this.

    Yamato's 460s showed a certain amount of sophistication, while the class did receive several radars as improvements were made. It is amusing to note that Yamato's actual flaws are almost always ignored in favor of "she had NO radar," "her armor was awful," and other such stuff. While it is true that a low-angle shot at point-blank range "proved" that a 16" shell could pierce a slab of test armor, such testing conditions are not precisely realistic. British testing of Yamato's armor type reportedly showed high quality, more in line for a vessel intended to withstand her own heavy guns at realistic battle ranges. tl;dr If Tex built an early Yamato equivalent, he did well.

    I built a light cruiser in this game that had something like 7 × 5" guns along each side of the ship for a total of 14 × 5" guns. It could shred opposing ships of similar or smaller size and put the hurt on larger ships even. Unfortunately, it did have one problem, and that had to do with how close the guns were, so that when the ship took a bad hit, it had a very high chance of a flashfire going off and when that happened it would take a miracle for the boat to keep itself above water as EVERY GUN on the boat would flashfire if even one cooked off, each gun would would follow suit one at a time going from one side to the next along the whole ship. Which did make for a great visual as the boat could be sailing along with 14 huge pillars of fire if the guns cooked off fast enough. Other times, the guns are still firing as they're exploding

    I got a challenge for you for the next campaign. I call it the "Modern Naval Museum and Amusement Park" challenge. Basically, from the start of the campaign you designate one of your major ports as the Museum/Amusement Park port. Every lead ship of the class of all the classes you create gets put into that port and has it's crew reduced to 30-40%. These ships never leave port and never take part in battle. As they are museum ships they are never refit either. This is so you can help establish a great naval tradition and culture among your people as families from all around the country can come to this port and tour the ships over the years, take part in firing the guns, using the radios and flags to communicate with each other, and a multitude of other fun activities as they learn the history of each class of ship. If you survive long enough you'll have to have the ships built in a separate port and then steam them into the museum port. If you REALLY want to make it interesting you can also do the "No Refits allowed" challenege AND the "Lack of Naval Architects" challenge where you can only design new classes every 5 years. I did this with a German campaign and I found it rather fun. Good day to you sir.

If interested, you can send them a message asking to be included in the test, along with reasoning as to why you should. If picked, they'll send you a free Steam key to download the Beta. However, once the DLC goes live, said Steam key will expire, and you'll have to pay for the live version. All the pertinent details are on the Steam page for UAD.

    Max shipyard size isn't actually tied to your shipbuilding capacity. It only increases the size of the boats you can build, so there's no reason to increase it beyond super battleship size. Dockyard capacity is tied to growth, and can't be increased manually. Sorry for backseating Tex, but i only stumbled over this while fucking with the game files and i'm not sure if it's common knowledge. Anyways, love the series, it's ridiculous and amazing. Long live the Hapsburg!

  • @boobah5643

    @boobah5643

    Everything in the game suggests that shipbuilding capacity is increased by the same expenditure that boosts max ship size. The difference seems to be that max ship size doesn't change until you stop building it, while shipbuilding capacity increases while you continue to build it. Which is extra annoying because if you cancel an ordered shipyard build, you get to keep the partial max ship size you've already accrued.

    I've seen it that you put ships on limited and then manually lower the crew and you can save even more than putting them in mothballs

    Tex, I can't help but notice that all your reloading crew are using hand cranks and winches to load 16" shells, and that your ship's magazines are PACKED TO THE GILLS with high explossive shells. I think you need a few extra AP in there, and please give the poor men some hydraulics.

    Oddly I've had my most success by having afew high end battleships and a crap load of armed to the teeth cruisers. In my experience destroyers die to easy and battleships although necessary tonnage to take a port in a battle they're just there as fire support because getting into the thick of things is a sure fire way to lose the things because they are torpedo magnets.

    Eh, DDs tend to be one-hit kills from BB main guns, and not much better against the secondaries. It's the cruisers that usually get close enough to torpedo with any sort of accuracy. Mind, it also helps if your BBs regularly make course changes, even if they're of the speed-up/slow down variety.
