The amount of time and effort you put into not only researching this but putting together a video and a reference sheet - Thank you! I am always so grateful for the information so I can not only try new things but have a better awareness of the chemicals I am using. Thank you so freakin much!

Aww, you're awesome.
So grateful for the amount of work that went into sharing this detailed information. I will continue to reference these videos in the future when I am making choices for furniture projects. Barry

You put the same attention to detail into this test as you do when you're working on a piece of furniture. I'm not surprised. To me, this is what sets you apart from other flippers I've watched. You never take shortcuts. And that shows in the finished product. Thank you so much for sharing this valuable information with all of us!
For me, the amount of time this vid took was worth every second. Now I know what I will look for when I purchase for my projects. Thank you Angie 😊
I like how you showed if it was fixable! Great video thanks😊
I'm just starting out, and I really really really appreciate the thoughtfulness you've put into this series - and into what you're doing as a whole. Thanks for being an inspiration and role model. :)
This is why I love that I found your channel. Your videos are very comprehensive and easy to understand. Thank you for doing all the hard work and sharing your experiences with us.
Once again, Angie, thank you for going above and beyond. I have learned so much in the last few weeks from your videos. I now feel much more confident in my skills and knowledge. I just want to be secure in my abilities before selling to others. You’re the bomb! Lol
Fascinating, thorough, and really useful comparisons. I appreciate your sharing all these findings and thoughts with everyone. You've saved some of us a lot of money, time, and disappointment.
Wow! What a super informative video, exactly the type of thing I’m interested in. But the way the experiments were performed and presented is what really stands out. Thorough and so well explained. Thanks so much.
As a beginner furniture refinisher that feels a little overwhelmed with all the options of topcoats and what they can do for my piece, I want to say a big thank you for doing this video and making a handy spreadsheet to access later. Very helpful!
That was a very well designed scientific experiment, Angie! Once again you knocked it out of the park.

Wow! Tons of information! Thank you so much for making this video. There is only so much you can learn from reading labels and reviews, so seeing it demonstrated like this is tremendously helpful. (I think I'm sold on the Odie's at this point.) Once again, awesome video. 😀
I love watching these types of videos, but girl you really went above and beyond! I love that you made a chart! A freaking CHART!!! Mostly I just want to try some Odie’s Oil.
Thank you for always bringing researched information and helping us all to learn. I'm going to have to watch this a couple more times and take some extra notes. I love your channel, you literally bring me joy in this crazy world. Hey I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks...I am learning!!! Thanks!!!
this is a great series!
Thank you, thank you, thank you. There isn't anything I can say that hasn't already been said. You're incredible, Angie. 👏❤
This is so well done. From the set up, thought process, execution, results to the possible solutions. Thank you so much for your time and effort in making this for us. We really need to get your info to Odie's. Gotta get our lady sponsored! ❤💯👏🍾👍🥂
Thank you so much for the hard work you did and the comparison sheet! Great resource! I will definitely use it.
Super helpful video! Would love if you did a video on how we could maintain vintage or antique pieces that are in really good condition (don't need a full refinishing) but have some furniture polish buildup, etc.
Thanks for all of your work into this ongoing experiment. Just starting back at some refinishing projects + now I'm definitely more prepared to stock up on more environmentally friendly options. It's a great feeling to keep furniture out of the landfills but not at the expense of other aspects of the environment.
Bonjoir Angie, that you for your hard work on this video again, very well done and super informative. Have a good weekend! Christine 🇨🇦
You are my most trusted source in this arena Angie. I consider it incredibly helpful given your experience using these products over time. Odie's Oil clearly has environmental and functionality benefits for me. Many thanks for your time, and for sharing this in a way we all benefit from.🌷🌷
I love your comparison-review videos. You've provided thorough information which will help us make informed decisions on topcoats.
Just wanted to throw out another THANK YOU for the time, effort, consideration you put into this in order to share it with the rest of us. I'm definitely going to have to order me some Odie's in the very near future.
Very good information to know, especially the toxins. I'm glad Odie's won out. Looking forward to your next testing video! Thanks for taking the time to do this. 😊
Angie this video is amazing, for the fact that we don't have types of woods or wood tints hanging around to do these studies and we'll know what to expect, if these damages will occur to our furniture. Again Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much for such a thorough testing and review of all these products and providing the pdf of your results! I REALLY appreciate that you waited 30 days to do the testing so that ALL the products were allowed to be FULLY CURED. That is a step I haven't seen anyone else do and it's always bothered me. For me, the most important feature of a finishing coat is how easily it can be repaired/touched up WHEN damage occurs in the future..... because let's face it, damage will happen over time. Thanks! ~~Christy~~
Thank you for taking the time to show us this. I've learned a lot from you already and I was able to finish my mid century dresser because of you and it turned out really good! Thanks again 😊
Wow, that was spectacular! Thank you⚘
This was amazing! Ton of info, detailed and explained 😀👌 l am grateful, thank you so much🙏

I loved that you did this. I want to sand my solid oak kitchen table top. Over the years, the careless men in my family have ruined the finish. I will sand down and use Odie Oil. Then I can easily touch up the destruction they continue to make.
Thank you, thank you for the testing and spreadsheet!!
A lot of great information. I appreciate the hard work and time you put into this. Very well done!! Cheers :)
Thanks for this evaluation in depth!!!!
Very useful information!! Awesome tutorial 👏🏼👍🏼

Anxiously awaiting next month's reveal!!
I too would rather do regular maintenance than use harsh chemicals, both for my own health and for the environment. Thanks for doing this video, I've often wondered why and how one product is better or more effective than another. Now I know a little bit more. I heard that you can't paint over a waxed topcoat, maybe what they meant was if you didn't completely sand off the wax. Is that accurate? I'd like to know when to strip and when to sand. I've started to understand when to paint vs when to refinish based on the quality of the wood or veneer and how badly damaged it is. However it seems like you bring a piece back to it's former glory even if the prep is a lot of work. Other furniture refinishers want to do something fast to make a profit - sometimes that means they bring it back to life and sometimes they just clean it up and make it modern. (I'm not a modern girl, but I love MCM and Scandinavian furniture which some people thing is modern). Some are a little over the top with their 'artistic' creations. It's interesting and fun to watch, but not my style. The reason I like to watch you and your channel is you're true to the piece. You have a great instinct as to what to do to bring out it's former glory, and not just make it look good for this era's style. You do that for sure but in an amazing way. Thanks for all the work this video must have been for you.
Hi Angie! Thank you so much for the informative video. FYI the canadian link for Homestead House hemp oil just goes to amazon home page.

Thank you so much for all your valuable information and research!
SO helpful!
Wow, so much appreciate the time you put into this experiment. As an older refinisher, it helped introduce me to products that I have never heard of. I have just had to use whatever was in my local hardware store. Now, with the products available online, you younger folks have it made! I'm trying to decide what I will try next, probably low chemical for sure. Thanks for doing so much work for us!🙂👍
You are totally awesome! Thank you!
Great information! Thanks so much for sharing all of your work!!
thank you so much for putting together this experiment! i’ve seen a couple other content creators do something similar, but you definitely showcased a greater variety of products, and I think it was needed. can’t wait to see the third part!
Thank you for the information
Very informative. Thank you for sharing!
SOOO helpful!! Thank you!!
Thanks for this video !!!!
Tons of amazing information
Awesome video, as always!
👩💻she is a good teacher too !
I love your attention to detail, you basically thought of everything here! And there were a couple finish options I'd never heard of. I'm a newbie to restoration and seeing how all these worked over wood was super helpful (that chart rocks!) I had no idea Danish oil had so many chemicals. Thought that was natural (though like you said, natural doesn't equal good for you.) Thanks for a super comprehensive part 2, excited for p3!
Loved all this info! I have to consider the products I use also. Definitely need to go a healthier route. Thanks
Wow. You are amazing. Thank you!

Seeing this i will def give Odies a try. Will still be using polycrilic, like you say need to be careful no matter what you use. The water on poly was not bad enough to make me want to not use it.
Super great work.....

Thank you so much for spending the time to test these products for us. Wow! You blew me away and couldn't wait to hit that SUBSCRIBE button! I learned about a new product...Odies...And can't wait to try it! Also, wondering if you could give Dixie Bell's Gator Hide a go. It's very similar to the Minwax Polycrylic, but think you might be blown away by the durability and fast cure time. Thanks again!
Thank you so much for your time & effort to do this and the spread sheet is a cherry on top. Q... this may sound stupid but during the cure time is the piece useable? What precautions are needed?
Good for you that you will start to avoid the dangerous chemicals (literally). I'm surprised by the polycrylic not performing better on the scratch test, I thought that was the whole purpose of polycrylic (not that I really know anything about it yet).

I was a little surprised too!
Have you ever tried shellac made from the flakes and denatured alcohol?? I know it’s more labor intensive ( and I’ve never tried it) but from what I’ve seen it produces a beautiful low-tech finish.

Yes, I used just about every topcoat out there at some point :-) it does give a nice finish for sure !
Thank you! We were recommended to use Danish oil once on a floor, and it smelled so horrific for about an entire year. Never again! Blech!
can you plz tell me how to tell which kind of wood I'm working with.... 🤯 you seem to be very good at it.
Great info. Thank you. Have you ever used Gen Finishes water based top coat? Wondering how it compares to DB gator hide.
@TranscendFurnitureGallery

I’ve never used either actually.
Im glad you did this video...I have a G Plan Quadrilla 3 drawer chest of drawers and it had a slight water mark on the top, I have sanded it as far as I dare and when its wet you cant see the mark its only when its dried out that it appears. If I put danish oil on as a top coat would it disguise the mark on the top?
I used tung oil on my desk and nothing bothers it. Looking in bright light bent to the side I imagine theres some scratches as everything lands on my desk, but it does not stain from sweating soda or hot coffee.
Hi Angie can you use a top coat over the hemp oil? Or the fusion bees wax ? Great video
@TranscendFurnitureGallery
2 жыл бұрын
Anything with any sort of wax content would need to go on LAST. Wax should always be the last step as nothing really adheres well to it. I'm not 100% sure about the hemp oil- if it was cured, I don't really see why another topcoat would be an issue, as I've seen people add extra topcoats over Danish oil.. maybe it would be similar? But yeah- I DO know for sure that wax needs to be last. :-)
Great follow-up video. Just as an FYI, the word “salve” is pronounced “sav”, short “a”. The “L” is silent. The word is a synonym for balm or ointment.

Actually it depends where in the world the person is. :-) Some pronounce it saLve, and some pronounce it saV. In Canada, most people pronounce it saLve.

No - I only use Fusion paint.
What product would you recommend to clean the top of a table with Odie’s oil since it penetrates instead of sitting on the top of the wood? Also, I adore your channel and have learned so much from you. Thank you for your hard work in making this channel. God bless you❤

Such a nice and honest guide! Do you have any recommendations for deep staining a very light maple veneer evenly? I have some alcohol based stains, but I don't know how they'll work on this light shiinny wood... Anything would help. Thanks in advance.
@TranscendFurnitureGallery

Maple is notorious for being difficult to stain. I find gel stains better than penetrating stains personally, but a wood conditioner pre-stain would help. I always have issues with staining maple (most do). Sorry, that's probably not the most helpful answer, haha. :-)

@@TranscendFurnitureGallery Thank you so much! At least now I know I'm not the only one having issues with maple. You're such a nice gal.
Do you have any videos on how to use lacquer?
@TranscendFurnitureGallery
5 ай бұрын
If you go to the main page of my channel, there is a header link that says “Playlists”… there is a playlist with all the videos I use lacquer in. They aren’t so much “how to use” videos, but each one I talk a bit about it while I’m using it, tips and tricks, etc. :-)
I have a question. I've experienced a lot of painted furniture as "sticky". Your glass sticks to it, paper sticks to it, and eventually something will stick to it that pulls the paint off over time. You know what I mean? Is this just improper re-finishing that is causing it? Or missing a top coat? Or wrong paint? Something else?
