Testing the New Lib Tech Orca Before Work | Life in Whistler
Спорт
Working in Whistler can be great: access to world class mountains on your days off, but when's there's a big powder day and you're working the morning shift it can seem tough... We've all been there. The pendulum swings both ways and fortunately for Andreas @Comor Sports in Whistler, this morning he's free to enjoy some of that sweet powder before going to work for 1pm.
Weather in Whistler has been all over the place recently, and a storm with variable temperatures and high winds is rolling through, meaning the alpine is closed and many of the chairs are running as reduced speed, and of course reduced capacity, making the going up pretty slow at times.
Andreas is riding the 2021 Lib Tech Orca - one of the most popular boards over the last couple years, and this year they have moved to their HorsePower "HP" construction.
I'm still riding the Lib Tech T.Rice Pro, but currently looking to upgrade...
Thanks to everyone for their suggestions in the last video, lots of great boards to check out, some which I knew and other I didn't. It's been a lot of fun looking through all of them.

Chris, the orca pod is real and something you need to join... just because everyone else has become podlings doesnt mean you should :D

Just got an Orca myself, don’t even have powder yet in Southern California but I’ve still been loving how nimble yet hard charging the board can be. I’ve been pushing 70 mph on groomers and feeling pretty comfortable which is amazing for such a short board

I feel like there was a mini Warpig craze about 5-6 years ago that was the precursor to the Orca boom
I'm on the Skeleton key this year in Whistler. Think its perfect for riding here. Nimble in trees, floats well, carves groomers and sends side hits! I'm a fan :)

hi, nice vid! Saw you riding orca and tranny finder. What’s the difference between the two and what are they good for?Thx!
HI Chris , saw your day with Kev on his birthday , just curious about your JOnes Solution set up and why you went with the 160 wide and what your boot size and weight is as I may be looking at that split for next NZ season , cheers man... I won the latest Orca and the few days i rode it at end of NZ season it was great.
@ChrisEyres

You won an Orca?! That's a score! So with the board I wanted a wide, I usually wear 10-11 depending on brand, but as I'm a tall and pretty big dude I wanted the float but didn't fancy the longer options as I think I get agility out the board with shorter length in trees and tight spaces. I think I oversized a little but we get quite heavy snow here so that extra float really helps. Hope this answers your question
Doesn't the wider width reduce your edging power? I never rode an orca but the last board i rode that was this wide i could definitely feel like i was putting less pressure compared to my skate banana. I really want to get an orca for myself but the potential lost on edge power makes me scared it won't perform so well on steep icy situations... What are your thoughts on it?
@ChrisEyres
2 жыл бұрын
Yeah you do lose some of the power on the edge. I’m kinda the opposite cause my feet were too wide for many boards and the mid-wide/ wide made it so much easier, and less toe and heel drag. You do get used to it and adjust your riding to an extent though

Yes. Hybrid. Awesome at slaying pow. And its yes. Bataleon surfer? Depends on the shape you want.. to swallow tail or to not when slashing northwest hot pow.

Good choices! Hybrid was on my shortlist, surfer is a really cool board but keV struggled on it in the trees, but it's not designed for that anyway 🤷👍

From what I understand the 154 is supposed to be more nimble in the trees compared to the 159 Kevin got. Who knows though, I haven't ridden either.

Chris! Don’t conform to the orca ways, there are comparable boards for cheaper that cooler!!!😂😂😂kidding obviously do what you want but the k2 simple pleasures is a dream of a carving directional pow board and this years orca lost a lot of its fun playful nature to the stiffer construction this year. If anything last years orca would be a better choice. But you’ve got good friends with tj and Andreas I’m sure you’ll find your board soulmate forever and always

You would think so, but he knows his body well in the mountains and he seems to have a system... I don't get it either. I think it's a mystery of the universe
@tannerk3732

I'm pretty positive he layers enough that anything that soaks doesn't necessarily cool him down too much. Heat is radiated back enough with a good base layer that the soakage isn't freezing.
Why change the T Rice Pro? Not good enough?

@@ChrisEyres I think he got a Thunder which is meant to be a better board, according to angrysnowboarder as well. The Goliath is stiffer and the BeyondX is stiffer still, meant for massive jumps (again, check angrysnowboarders review). Sick alien graphic though

@@MG-sg2ci waist width shouldn't be a problem! From the research I've done, either will be just fine. Dimensions are almost identical (aside from the obvious effective edge difference and the 147cm is 0.5" more setback). They're basically gonna be perfect either way, just with slightly less swing weight on the smaller choice.
@MG-sg2ci
3 жыл бұрын
@@tannerk3732 Thank you! Great info.
@tannerk3732
3 жыл бұрын
@@MG-sg2ci I myself just picked up the 147cm, I'm 5'5", about 135 go 140 with a size 7.5 boot. The only real difference I see is there's the better surface area of the 147cm, everything else is almost identical. So if you plan for this to be slightly more powder oriented or you want a good edge for carving, go up to the 147. Sidecut is the same, tail and nose size is ALMOST the same, really its just the edge length and surface area that get a boost (and swing weight/length increase.)
I know we can't ride together but ifyoubuy an orca we can have distanced pod with the gang 🤣 stupid rain today I'm soaked lol
