the string stretcher is actually a nice idea. i rather stretch my strings than hearing my strings detuning while playing.

Ooor… And hear me out here… Use your hands to pull the string. Retune. Repeat until the string stays stable after pulling.

It's actually a good product. You set it up on the string and use very light pressure from your hand to run it up and down the string a couple times then retune until it doesn't go out of tune. Usually 3 tries and you are done. I didn't get mine from aliexpress though. I got the string stretcha which is made in USA. Probably no difference and I over paid, but it works great.
@TheRockinDonkey

@@Ari_Calamari That works too, and is probably easier on the string since you are less likely to over-stretch the string to breaking using your hands.

Or u could use your fingers . Finger under string at 12th fret pull up and let down again and again until string feels uniform. Takes less than 1min.
I agree with all but one of those reviews, The string stretcher is actually a good product. Not sure why you dont stretch your strings when you first put them on but that device makes the stretching process go faster. You are actually supposed to put it on the string like you had it and slide it up and down a few times. The Ali express version is probably made much cheaper than the version I got earlier this year.

The string stretcher is great honestly. Eddies guitar tech swore by those for years and I agree with him. Makes stretching the strings easy and fast. I use 2 because when you slide them back and forth the friction makes them hot.

Streching your strings actually gives you more time to play. Stretching them for a minute or two is a lot better than wasting 10 munites contantly retuning your strings while you're actually trying to play, but I and I think most people, just do it by hand, but I guess that product does make it faster/easier, but hands are just fine for that as well.
I love those string stretchers. I used to work in a music shop and had to set up multiple guitars a day and those stretchers saved my fingers a multitude of pain. Stretching strings by had all day really builds up the pain.

The influence is certainly there
I came here to take up for the "string stretcher", but looks like MANY ppl beat me to it lol. For 30+ years I've ALWAYS stretched the strings by hand in that same fashion when installing new strings. I start by pressing the first fret, pull up on the string in a few different spots to stretch it, & repeat all the way down the fretboard - skipping every other fret or so - and continue doing so for every string. I find that the process saves me a lot of "break-in" time & provides much more tuning stability right off the bat. So that product would actually be very useful for me. In fact I'm going to order one right now! 😊
My man sixstringtv watches DankPods, you are a real one
Lol I've used the Stretcha for years and I love it. It's just plain easier and more efficient than hand stretching and easier on my hands too! The only thing is you can overdo it if you don't know how to use it.
To be fair the string stretcher would be best suited in a live player situation. Sure you could argue they should already have a second guitar or the main one ready to go, but you see what I mean.
13:30... If you spent 5 to 10 minutes stretching them by pulling the strings with your fingers you wouldn't have to retune constantly and do all that bending. Not sure why you've never heard of doing this (or choose not to do this)... This tool makes it so you don't need to work your hands raw from stretching them with your fingers. If i remember correctly, the original manufacturer of the tool sells theirs for about $12 on Amazon, but i can't imagine a $4 knock off would be all too different.

I also don't understand the mentality of playing the strings in. Just stretch them so you can actually play the dang guitar instead of tuning every 5 minutes.

Yup, been stretching my strings since the 1980's. The string stretcher just makes it go faster.
Use the multi tool thing in case of emergency only. It's much better to use the correct tools so you don't strip the nuts and bolts.
Stretching your strings by hand actually very good way to break them in. This gadget just does it wrong, applying too much tension with a steep angle. I give them a good tug (while minding my force) from the middle point around 12th fret, while holding the string down around the 1/2 fret with my other hand. Makes everything settle down in its place.
The rolling capo is a ripoff of the GL-1 Glider Capo, which is actually really good. Definitely heavy clamping force, but it makes mid-song key changes a breeze, especially if you're doing fingerstyle. A good example of it in use is Sungha Jung's video of "My Heart Will Go On"

I tend to stretch my strings once or twice manually using my fingers and thank God that doesn't cost $4.04. I typically still need to play for a small break in period as a quick stretch usually doesn't remove any settling of the string or whatever black magic is happening when the strings become stable... love the video BTW 📹 ❤️

I pinch the strings together and pull up on them a little, give each a big bend and very rarely do I have any issues with them settling. I also know the sweet spot for stretching them at this point though, I used to love re string days or as my girlfriend calls them guitar spa days, but at 18 guitars, 3 basses and counting its becoming a literal whole day procedure. We'll worth it for the first few super crisp and clean pinch harmonics on each one though lol.

You need a hockey stick to get rid of the crap products. A real sport to rid the world of crappy guitar products.
Ali Express is the sort of retailer to re-label a warehouse full of 15 year old knock off brand vibrators as "physical therapy wands." Which is mostly bad, unless youre a vintage vibrator collector i guess. I did buy that weird finger pick holder from Ali, however, so take it for what it is. I supposed this runs parallels to life, where the journey requires you to constantly sift through the rebranded vibrators and junk to find the occasional keeper.

One of my friends had a rolling capo in the late '90s! I don't recall the manufacturer, but it worked horribly. If you changed its position the intonation would fuck up horribly.

String stretching is crucial after a string change, but i don't care about that plastic gadget. While the string stretcher as a product is useless, it's also nonsense that you need to play your new set of strings to stay in tune. Just give them a good stretch by hand to tighten up lose windings around the tuners and the plasticity of the strings and simply tune again. How do you think guitar/bass techs of sweaty players like Mark King do this, who switch strings on the bass/guitar during the gig and who want that extra bright sound of fresh strings?
