Your welds will be a hundred times better if you get a helmet. Use your free hand as a support/stabilizer for your second hand. You should really never have to weld with your arm floating in the air like that.

I'm 62. I've bought a couple cheap mig and stick welders. I managed to slop together a few welds. I'm impatient and always ended up getting mad and giving the stuff away. I'm gonna try one more time. I'm retired now and have more time. Maybe I'll get the hang.

Set voltage to the max . Your amperage is set by the wire speed

Sonnler came out with the 160 version. Does flux core, stick and lift tig. Only tested the flux core so far but that part does well... It also has the synergistic auto setting feature, just set the amps and the machine will do the rest. Suggestion : Folks might want to see how you set this up including putting the wire spool in since it can be tricky for a true beginner. The only issue I had was Sonnler sent the wire drive wheel with a .8 and 1.0 mm width grooves but .09 inch wire. It works fine but one is left scratching your head why that happened... Translation... .8 mm is .030 inches.. 1.0 mm is .040 inches. The wire sent with the welder is .09 inches. Neither groove is exactly right. It's amazing it works without skipping a beat every now and then..

Why are you using water when welding if a fire starts 😑

I just made a video on a little 140amp Dc inverter mig welder of Amazon for £99 flux core with no spatter which is impressive for the cost would be great for any beginner metal welders on a budget.
