Testing Shark Tank’s Cheese Chopper with a Cheese Expert!
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Today I'm testing out The Cheese Chopper, featured on Shark Tank. It's primarily for block cheese, but after trying it myself, I wanted to see what a cheese expert had to say about it, and how it worked on other types of cheeses!

I loved the cheese expert haha. It was like asking a diamond expert to examine Claire’s jewelry
You can get the "pro" slicer she's using, and in stainless steel, for $90. It may be twice the price, but it's also twice as good and will last twice as long.

Wow... Not only a great demonstration of the chopper, but a cheese expert to go above and beyond explaining why the chopper is limited in its usefulness. Definitely kudos to Diana for sharing her all-around knowledge - and tremendous camera presence, too boot. (And the next time I'm in Henderson - I know where I'll be stopping by).
Out of all the experts you've had on your channel I liked her the best. She had really good camera presenece and not only talked clear and in a way that you can understand but she was witty and charming. Hope you can do more collabs in the future.

Yeah it looks cheap AF. And it's just more to clean after using it. It does the same thing as a regular cheese grater.🙄
"Goopy boy", "commited to that block life". ❤ Seriously underrated woman, love her. You two in the same frame actually look and seem equally as proffessional. If you do feature her again, maybe try similar products to that freakin' awesome (heh!) wire cutter, alternatively something completely different in terms of cheesey gadgets.
Cutting cheese with a wire against a hard surface rarely works well. There needs to be a gap for the wire to go into for it to cut through the cheese properly. (Also the wire needs to be extremely tight.)

My 15 dollar hillshire farm marble cutting block is like this. Cuts like a guillotine using a wire and the marble table has a groove in it for the wire to cut through entirely.
@rapmastac1362

I have an old cheese cutter that has a groove in the wood for the wire. I couldn't find a replacement wire quickly after mine snapped, so got a handheld one. I ended up just cutting a thick slice of cheese, then laid it sideways and put the block on top and used that cheese to give me the gap I needed for the hand slicer.

When I need to shred cheese, it is usually a relatively large quantity for a pizza or baked pasta dish such as lasagne, for that I use my food processor which does a great job in literally seconds. For anything else, I will use a sharp cheese knife or even a paring knife, depending on the cheese I am cutting. For storing cheese, I simply seal it in a vacuum container with my Food Saver vacuum sealer, which does a great job of keeping it fresh, literally for months. A couple of tips... when shredding cheese such as cheddar or mozzarella, put it in the freezer for about 10-15 minutes first. You will get a better result, and when slicing a firm or semi-firm block of cheese, bring it to room temp first as it will prevent the cracking of the cheese and result in a much better finishing edge at the bottom.

Dude, shut up
Here's the issue with these things: You really need to clean them very very well and in fact sanitize them after use otherwise they'll become very, let's say, yucky.
@MidnightHedgehog365
2 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah he didn't even touch on cleaning and he typically does. Not sure if that thing's worth having let alone cleaning anyway.
It's trying to solve a non-existent problem
I vividly remember as a kid, my grandma would buy a block/loaf of cheese and when it eventually was opened, she would grab a decent length of thread that had a fairly strong/high tensile strength and she would use it to slice the cheese evenly and accurately. She'd then put the thread in the package with the cheese and put it into the refrigerator, that way when she went back in to slice up some more cheese, she'd have it ready to go. It also made it so that the grandkids, like myself, didn't have to go searching for a bit of string either, nor would we need to get a knife and try to cut it without inevitably slicing a finger off, LOL... I'm sure there are some people reading this and cringing over what I'm saying, but it honestly worked really well. One of her favorite cheeses was Velveeta which, (I doubt there's anyone out there that doesn't know what velveeta is, but just in case it's a very soft cheese that looks and tastes somewhat like the sliced American cheese yet it's far softer and has a much creamier texture). Anyway, we would always pull the top off the Velveeta box, grab that string, and start slicing away so I could either snack on it, or make a sandwich. LOL. Talking about it brings back a lot of memories and reminds me how much I miss my grandparents. Good memories though. Good memories indeed...

I have a nice little marble cheese slicer. Simple wire with a groove in the plate for the wire to slice all the way through. The metal handle design allows for the wire to keep a tight tension. Plastic is never going to keep that tension.
That wire slicer she used is amazing and seems like it's a good buy if you eat cheese frequently.

Great review as always!! That cheese cutter is way more effort than its worth for sure
i am new to your channel and i have been binge watching you till a new video came out
I do appreciate the charm of the gold shredded paper resembling shredded cheese.
I was also in Oddesy of the Mind! I had completely forgotten about that. I was it in for two years. I think the first year it was called Olympics of the Mind. They changed the name for some reason. It was fun, we got to travel to competitions.
Yup, absolute legendairy product!
I use a vegetable peeler to cut my block cheese thinly and a standard box grader for anything else. I also use it to slice off thin curls of frozen butter, yes frozen butter, the kind you have to use when no one replaces the butter when it's out.
I learned so much about cheese today.
Great review of a bad idea. I like most cheeses sliced very thin and have a set of handheld cheese planes in different sizes that work perfectly for me or I use my cheese knife that has a very thin blade and the softer the cheese the colder it needs to be before slicing or grating for best results....
Wooo! New Zealand! Thats so cool seeing our wine overseas!

Once you even use a handheld wire, you never look back. Then again, we go through about a block of cheese a week (2-4lbs). Pre cut cheese (not sliced for burgers mind you) is way more expensive than just cutting the cheese yourself.

@@rapmastac1362 we got 20+kg piece of cheese here.... good luck using a wire. cheese, whatever they are, are supposed to be cut with a blade. professional use a blade, not a wire. for info, i m french, i live near the swiss frontier. We have tons of cheese here (litteraly the place of cheese LOL), originaly created and i can tell you, using a wire here to cut cheese is a felony. Wire are used to cut butter, but not cheese, whatever the kind of cheese.
@rapmastac1362
2 жыл бұрын
@@franktrinidad142 with your apparent infinite knowledge of cheeses, you should know not all cutting methods are equal. You wouldn’t commute to work with a lorry, nor would you tow a trailer with a Fiesta. “Cut soft-ripened or crumbly cheeses like Brie or Roquefort with a skeleton blade to minimize adhesion. Cut medium-hard to medium-soft cheeses with a wire slicer. Cut hard cheeses like parmesan using a knife with a pear-shaped blade forced into the cheese to "break" it.” As a meat cutter, I know you don’t start out with a paring knife, but I do know there is a knife that covers most bases. A knife cutting cheese covers less bases than a wire or wire based cutting device. A wire would cover more cheeses without ruining them than a knife. Btw, I live in Wisconsin, the cheese capital of the US.

@@rapmastac1362 cut Brie with a hole knife.. Hah, please do it. i m very curious tosee how great that cheese will be smashed in the middle. theses knifes with holes in it ain't anything required, nor usefull. they are just myth. wisconsin... the capital of thing you call "cheese" in the US?... good thing we both french and swiss are here for creating what's so called cheese XD the ustensil you use to cut the cheese is NOT the important point. The important point is the cheese itself. i can give you Munster that doesn't smell at all or Roquefort with hole like Gruyere if ya want... the chees itself is the key, the way you cut it is identical from the "style" but same from the ustensil used. it work exactly like spoon...wich one would you use to eat ice cream ? well, whatever one, the important is the ice cream itself, not the spoon.
Diana really added something wonderful to this review, both personality wise and in terms of knowledge and information. I lost it at "Ohh she thick tho" on the Brie, absolutely amazing! Well...it kind of sort of is. My Cheese Keeper doesn't slice or grate cheese...it just keeps cheese. And that fancy cutter that lady has...it cuts cheese, but doesn't grate or store it (and it's bigger). On the whole, it's really not a bad product if you just want no muss, no fuss. Buy the cheese, unwrap it, stick it in, put on the lid and put it in the frig. When you want cheese, take the lid off, advance the cheese with the wheel...slice or shed want you want, put the lid back on and back in the frig.
