Testing Sabre Red: Pepper Spray vs Pepper Gel

A test of Sabre Reds spray vs gel
In the video I said that I would change to the gel when I replaced the spray, but I'm rethinking that. The spray gets more coverage and I'm thinking that's what I want verses the gel which was more precise.

I used the spray one on a bad guy once. And I sprayed him for a good 10-seconds. As soon as it hit his face, he closed his eyes hard, and grabbed his shirt to wipe his face. Since his eyes were closed he couldn't see that I continued spraying the shirt, the part he was putting to his face, so he effectively wiped more of it all over and into his eyes. He grabbed another, cleaner part of his shirt, and I soaked that too. Worked like a charm. Although, a lot of spray got in the air and me and others had burning eyes and coughs too. But we were still able to see, and walk away before he could.

I work in corrections, watching grown men cry, squeal & scream because of the pain may be amusing, but it always brings that thought to your head: "dam, this must really hurt!". Also, another thing to watch out for is the environment after the fact: people have touched doors/walls/their vests days after the fact & still needed to take time out to decontaminate themselves because the burning sensation won't go away.

This Sabre Red pepper spray was applied at 9min 45 sec and he didn't even shut his eyes until the 10 min mark! It took around 15 seconds for him to even close his eyes. Do you know how much damage a robber/kidnapper/murderer can do in 15 seconds? A 13 year old kid can probably run 100 meters in 15 seconds. Also, you only have around 1 maybe 2 chances to spray the attacker. After the first spray, the attacker will be ready and can either block or dodge the spray. This is a BAD CHOICE. VERY BAD. If you want a very good choice let me know.

Briefly in the Army, I ran the tear gas range. Saw and felt the effects on me and the guys going through. Then in Vietnam I had heard that we were using tear gas(?), grenades and/or drums. My immediate reaction was to question how effective it was. Soooo. My camp was outside the city and we had a 500 meter range for training. From pistols to anti-tank LAW, and even had a tank in one day. A large impact area to mess around in. I'd say that from our camp out past the range, it was hazardous out a couple kilometers. I went there, when no one else was there. Took a tear gas grenade and popped it to my right. The cloud expanded right to left in front of me. My goal was to see if I could bring effective fire if exposed. If "I" could, "they" could. I had my M-16, took a few shots, and walked into and through the dense cloud. The effects hit on the first couple steps and made me pause a second. I then continued through and past the cloud. I then put effective fire on targets. I never carried tear gas grenades after that. I do believe that there are situations in a combat area, when tear gas could be effective. But not for me.

Thank you pal. I live in Spain and I was trying to find out a real test with an authentic reaction of the SABRE gel format. And this is the best and only video I found after seeying literally tons of clips on youtube. Because this social platforms it is full of propagandistic crap about pepper and gel sprays with fake reactions, and telling lies (that can put people's lives at real risk) like that the gel distance can reach like 5 meters (16 feets) when in reality it is kind of difficult to reach the attacker's face at a distance of only 2 meters (6 feets). It is SABER itself who tells these lies, which are printed on its products. Too bad. Anyway, now thanks to you I know that the gel spray it deserves a purchase in order to protect us against the unpopular "oKupas" here in Spain (home invasions perpetrated mostly by illegal immigrants of Moroccan and Algerian origin), as fire weapons are illegal in my country and knifes and that kind of stuff it is illegal to be used even in self defense (it carries a criminal conviction) against the "oKupas". Just Spain. Honestly, you have been a great help so that many people like me can be sure of the efficacy of this type of product, and of such important things (with which the manufacturers themselves also tries to lie to us) such as the time reaction of the burn starts after about 5-10 seconds like you said. I am very grateful to you for volunteering to take this pepper spray test, physically harming yourself - even if only temporarily - so that other people can draw their own conclusions from all these facts that you have analyzed. I can't thank you enough with words. Goodbye and may life go well. PS: Sorry about my English speaking.

I got both to test out as well... I went out on a windy day and sprayed them upwind on purpose to experience how bad the blowback was. I actually found that I had more blowback with the gel than the spray... I think the gel is too thick to flow smoothly through the small nozzle, so it atomizes more into mist than the less viscous spray solution. Ironically that's the complete opposite of what it's supposed to be, but that's what I experienced... looks like you did as well on that one towel spray that made you cough. As such, I still prefer the liquid over the gel. I like how it flows down over the face faster as well.

Pepper is about burning you eyes skin. CS is about locking up your breathing. Two totally different things, but some canisters mix the two. Prefer pepper gel as it puts more product on target with no blow back.

I’ve used both on A holes while working security. First time was the Sabre red OC/CS variant. Like a dummy I walked right into after spraying the dude. Second and third time I used the Sabre red gel formula and it works great to negate the over spray to myself and others. Only down side is they don’t inhale it as much as the standard spray l.

The whole purpose of the Gel's invention is that it is better in the wind than the spray would be. That was not displayed in the video.

You may have just saved some people from bodily harm. Spray and move for sure. I have Sabre Red spray and heard it's the fastest acting, but will not get overconfident with it's ability. Anything that buys me time is worth it though.

Are these 1.33 MC like Sabe Red Cross Fire (2m SHU, 1.33% MC)? I'm debating on getting this or UDAP bear spray (3.3m SHU, 2% MC).

I sprayed a little in my sink, the gel, and then licked it to see if it had a real peppery taste...oh boy. About four seconds later my mouth, eyes and lungs were in a state of flux. Defiantly try to get it in the assailants mouth if you're gonna use it.
