Looks cool! How does the paint look now that it's been a couple months? It is very common for solvent based paints to react with plastics over time and for the plastic and paint to get sticky or gooey. I am very curious if it reacted over time.

Protip the shininess of the paint is also related to how smooth the surface is, when making metal shiny you have to make it sanded, it's the micro roughness.

Every painter from the old dats,(70s) and even a famous current one that’s an artist vs the aforementioned housepainters, turned into alcoholics and or drug addicts but mostly alcohol because the fumes caused something to their brain that only more toxic paint or alcohol could alleviate. It’s sad really, before people started using respiratory equipment.

In search cause I've applied the liquid mirror to a metal counter chair (4 more to go and reupholstery). Before I go down this long load and expense I'm stuck at the first one now because of sealer search. One that will protect but not dull the chrome like shine. Any suggestions? You will get a much better result if you do a few extra things. Firstly, thin out this product so you can use it through a spray gun. Then start by painting a primer on your surface, then spray a black gloss paint on that, and then finally, the chrome can be lightly sprayed on that over several layers. The black undercoat allows you to lightly spray the silver on top with the thinnest amount, to get complete coverage. And it's actually the glossy undercoat surface combined with a thin silver colour that creates the reflective effect.

The reason more layers seems more reflective on the Oscar is because your piece is so rough. Each layer is effectively smoothing out the piece. If you had a sanded smooth piece (and wet-sanded with fine-grit sandpaper), it would probably look fantastic with one coat. The ball didn't benefit because it was already smooth.

Lat summer I repainted my wheel hubcaps which are plastic like all hubcaps are today. First I bough a can of high gloss rustoleum spray paint, then I bought the high gloss chrome spray paint for a total of less that $10 USD. I painted the hubcaps black first and let it dry. Then I painted them with the chrome paint and they came our looking like chrome hubcaps. All for less than $10. I got that idea from some videos right here on KZread.

If you're wanting a better out come to the mirror finish aka chrome: Paint it in a flat black first, then go over it in the mirror paint. Use an airbrush though, this technique also works with spray paints that are chrome. But in order to achieve the better outcome you need to paint with flat black first.
