The lightweight adventure motorcycle scene is increasing in popularity, and with good reason. With their low cost of entry, well-roundedness on and off-road, and a high fun factor being just some of the reasons riders are picking up smaller ADV motorcycles. Within this segment are the Honda CRF300L and Kawasaki KLX300, both of which embodying what a lite adventure bike should be. After getting our hands on these bikes and doing a head-to-head in their stock form, we decided to throw some parts on these motorcycles and take them on a real adventure through western Utah and into Nevada for a real comparison. Take a closer look in our Lite Adventure Bike Shootout as we pin the Honda CRF300L vs the Kawasaki KLX300 and put our bikes and bodies to the test.

    Gotta be careful riding without a jacket in that heat. The dry wind will dehydrate you in minutes. Jacket keeps the sweat on you a bit longer and you can soak your jacket with spare water to cool off a bit! Cheers from Sub Saharan Africa! 🇰🇪

    This is so cool to see long adventure rides on modern small cc dualsport bikes. To be able to travel several hundred miles for just a few bucks of gasoline is where it's at. I'm going to do something similar on my DR650 this summer to Elk County, Pennsylvania.

    Hey fellow Pa rider here on a CRF250L. I do weekend rides from the Erie area to the Allegheny National Forest in one day and ride fire roads til I find a camp site, then ride back the next day. It's good for about 400 miles in the 2 days and gas costs are like $15. Great cheap fun.

    @ndlsjk Awesome! I like that, fun with a low cost. I have to install the petcock rebuild parts on my DR and I'll be back out on that. Those trips sound fun except I would be from the other side, NE. Keep on enjoying every minute, that's what it's all about.

    Tell you what, my little Honda 300 is blowing me away now. I added CBR300 cams ($80), CBR300 velocity stack ($28), and a tune for $150. Feels like a totally different bike. I was neck and neck with a stock 2022 DRZ400SM this past weekend for reference. Also threw on Rally Raid Level 2 suspension. This thing is an absolute weapon now. Also does 85mph all day with stock gearing, tall rear tire, and my 260lb self on it.

  • @Tony-zp8xn

    @Tony-zp8xn

    6 ай бұрын

    @@xzouix From things I've seen others say about it, the suspension sprung for about a 160 pound rider. I weigh 195 and my Rally loses a fair bit of travel with me, plus riding gear, plus whatever else I put in my bags, whether it's camping gear or some groceries. 115 might be a little light on it, but you definitely won't struggle with it sagging too much. I'm hoping to get the suspension done in the next year.

    Last video was good, and I agreed the KLX was best. The jumps and Wallowy suspension on the Honda was obvious. This video was more like a long-range ride which I did want to see. It gives a more rounded assessment of the bikes. I don't see your opinions as being swayed because I think the soft seat and soft suspension of the Honda makes it better for this kind of riding. A gas gauge vs gas light when the next gas station could be far off is important, so Kudos to the Honda. Two different bikes and two different rides = a more complete story. The KLX Camo is my fav. Great job on a tough video.

    I've got an 2008 klx250, couldn't find a new klx300 to buy. But the klx250 does do well with much weight, I drove through Death Valley ntl park loaded w extra fuel tiny amount of gear, and the little 250 worked hard to the tune of 18mpg at one point. I noticed anywhere from 80mpg to 30mpg to the pitiful 18mpg lugging up crockscrew pass....

    Interesting reversal for the more travel-oriented use even though you did some jumping and tire-spinning too. I put a deposit down on the Honda Rally version because I won't be shredding trails at all -- too old for that, too unskilled. Maybe I'll stop worrying about that suspension (though upgrades there seem pretty simple and not all that expensive). I can live for weeks out of a 20 liter backpack, so I think the little Honda should have everything covered. Only trouble is actually *getting* one delivered to a dealer.

    Good luck on the bike hunt! They are great little bikes. I really like that new 300 engine. It really shines when being compared directly to the KLX. I wouldn't recommend cranking the preload to try and compensate for the extra weight in luggage. Wes

    @JoeJ523 your point being that we live in modern times and so we need conveniences that come on more expensive motorcycles on a bike that costs 7k? I like the price how it is, I don't want it any higher. Plus it's a 2 gallon tank? It's not hard to keep track of 2 gallons. You want a gear indicator too? A dualsport is meant to be a simple, rugged machine that be flexible for almost any task. If you want a gas gauge, get an adv bike that actually carries enough gas to warrant it

    @@collectiveleak Honda 300l has a fuel gauge at similar price……these companies can afford it and still sell the bike at the same price.
