    Soap maker here 🙋🏻‍♀️ the cleansing bars don’t really have a problem with bacteria because the way they are produced makes them have a preservative BUT the reason natural soaps aren’t supposed to be left wet and need drying out between washes is because they will go mushy because of the natural butter/oils in the soap. No one wants slimy/mushy soap 😄

  • @clarewhite3004

    Soapmaker here too! Soap's pH, usually 9 or so, is too high for bacteria. Syndet cleansers are typically a more bacteria-friendly 4.5-5.5, so they need a preservative. I make syndet too, and it's always got a preservative if it contains or contacts water.

  • @Pennydeadful

    @@clarewhite3004 never ventured into syndet cleansers myself. Only ever made products that go through saponification (cold press). I do like to make my own cosmetics though sometimes and obviously have to consider preservatives with them. Super interesting all round though.

    I don’t know how it would work in soap, but charcoal is actually used in medicine to absorb when a person has orally overdosed. It’s quite gross but it’s effective if administered soon enough.

    The reason it has to be administered soon after is because the charcoal needs to come into direct contact with the substance you've ingested. We use it internally because we can't easily wash out a person's digestive system, but we can wash our skin pretty easily, so any "toxins" on the surface of the skin (pollutants, dirt) can just be washed away with any old cleanser, and the charcoal is unnecessary.

  • @selene3586

    @selene3586

    I think a lot of brands actually advertise a product by using the results you would get when the ingredient is "pure" or in incredibly high concentrations - results that do not really occur when formulated with other ingredients or are not concentrated enough. For example, I’ve had a very tiny piece of glass stuck under my foot and it was so deep that I could not walk anymore, and my doctor gave me a charcoal cream and it genuinely pulled out the tiny piece of glass. Bear in mind tho, the cream smelled awful, was pitch black, had a weird sticky texture and I had to apply a very thick layer and leave it as is for it to pull out the glass. So charcoal does really pull out things, but not when it’s in skincare for sure🤔

    I'm VERY fair skinned thanks to genetics, very long, high-Appalachian winters, vitamin D and iron deficiencies, and very short and mild summers. I'm someone that fake tanner is *supposed* to be meant for, but I've never found one that looks even just acceptable or okayish. And I've tried literally hundreds. I've tried the cool based tones, the purple tanners, the ones marketed towards us translucent ones. The only ones I haven't tried are the brands that are $$$. I can barely afford to get $10 foundation at Walmart every three months so going through tanner after tanner that is ultimately a waste of what little extra "spending money" I have is incredibly frustrating. I don't feel like I'm expecting much from these products either. I gave up the hope of a sunkissed tone over a decade ago, I merely want my veins to be less visible. But every single one ultimately left me looking like the cursed child of an oompa loompa and a zebra. So I don't really have much faith in any product with tanner in it regardless of how viral it goes. Also, I'm with everyone here who hates the smell of lavender. I don't think I always disliked it... but then EVERYONE started using it in EVERYTHING and it became more and more repulsive. At this point lavender stresses me out instead of the calming effect its supposed to have 😅

    I liked the carbon theory bar too! I bought it because when I was in Korea I SWORE by the April Skin Magic Stone (or whatever it was called haha) it dramatically improved my acne and the carbon theory one, while not as good, was a good alternative!

    I like that elf moisturizer, it seems to make my skin look smoother and I feel that tightening effect but I apply to still wet skin and every sparingly and then it has a kinda a squeaky clean feeling going on. I often use an essence with it as well and then apply a thicker one on top. Elf’s happy hydration feels pretty nice, too

    Interesting that cleansing bars are becoming popular again. As far as storage perhaps they should go back to one of the OG facial cleaning bars, Clinique. They always had a really well designed box for their cleansing bars. It had a tray that slid out of the box and allowed you to use the bar and slide it back in and it kept things pretty clean.

    If you love a more tanned look, but don't want to sit in the sun, then we have that in common! I absolutely fell in love with the TanRevel Pro. It is used all over Scandinavia and is raaaaaved about here. It's like a small handheld wireless spray-tan device. It's totally fool-proof since even I can use it (lol), and it gives such a healthy and natural tan to the skin. I only use it for my face and neck, and actually on my hands, since normal selftan mousse can be kind of tricky to apply evenly on your hands. Also, if you did decide to invest in one (saying invest cause sadly it's kinda pricey :(((( but so worth it!!), it would be amaaaaaazing to see you review it! So curious if you'd like it as much as a lot of ppl up here!! (considering your following, they would also prob sponsor you for it, lul). Anyways, that was a small non-sponsored tip from lil Scandi me from Norway. Love your content x

    I love that elf moisturizer. I never knew just how dry my skin was until I heard people saying it was too thick and heavy. I use it as a lighter, day moisturizer and under my heavier night moisturizer 😂

  • @blackrosenuk

    I had the SAME sentiments about that e.l.f. moisturizer. I really wanted to like it, but it was too thick, spread in a pulling fashion, and dried down in a rubbery way. It left my skin feeling heavy, and I got pilling with various sunscreens and makeup products. I've been using it as a hand cream so to not waste it.

    I actually do use a cleansing bar that has 10% sulfur and I’ve seen that my skin doesn’t break out as often nor is it too drying. Which is surprising because we all know how soap bars are usually very foamy and stripping. The only issue I have is that it’s hard to store them, since they can get your cabinet messy and all so,it would be great if brands would give us like a ventilated soap case?? A metal one with a cute design

    Fake tanning foams and lotions (also tanning beds) got very popular when I was in high school in the early 2000’s. I’m sooo glad I never used them. I’m very pale, basically transparent, and would have looked even more orangey. I got teased for being so pale, but it’s better than orange. I’m in my early 30’s now and have embraced the paleness.
