Hi, from a retired guy in Melbourne Florida, I like your video I’m guessing by the sound of things you really like Your Smart Drive Power Assist. I just got a fold up wheelchair and a used like new Smart Drive, Power Assist . I’m glad you’ve got the speed control dial. I don’t have that yet. I need to order it. That seems to be the best way to control the smart drive speed. The old smart watch doesn’t seem to work very well for some people.. I have heard that the drive wheel rollers on the back wheel need to be replaced time to time. And I hope the batteries last quite a while they’re very expensive to replace the batteries about $1300.. the replace. If you have any questions, just ask me. I’m educating myself a lot about the smart drive.power assist. I have neuropathy and it’s affecting the strength of my legs. I can still get walk a little bit but I can’t walk very far. Good luck with your smart drive. I hope it works out well for you. Thanks for your video.

Thanks for all of the information about this! How fast can you comfortably go, and how much pulling power does it have, in case you go to a store and need to push a shopping cart/trolley around? I just thought of a quote from the Napoleon Dynamite movie - " You ever take it off any sweet jumps?" It's sort of a meme.

Dad comment. Not sure we would try it pushing a trolley. I think steering would be a challenge. It will push someone twice the size of Ellie quite happily, (me for example).

I just got home not too long ago from my annual evaluation for a new manual wheelchair, this will be my third TiLite AeroZ rigid frame chair and my vendor and PT are both agreeing that this is a good option for me to put on my new chair. I’m hoping that my insurance will allow me to get it, it’s going to make it so much easier to go places longer distances than before. When my doctor sent my referral in for my new chair it was mentioned that my wrists and shoulders are not as strong as they were when I first got disabled and have to depend on a wheelchair the rest of my life to get around, and that was 13 years ago next month. How time flies by! Your video really shows how much it means for me to get one. Thank you for sharing your experience with the world and for sharing it with me, I’m very excited to see if I will be able to get one, I can definitely see how it makes things easier for people like us to do things easily with this technology. Keep up the good work! ✌🏻

Yes I think it’s a great little gadget! I never use my wheelchair without it now as it’s so easy to use and means I can go any distance and not get fatigued. I hope you get approved for it

@@SmallandStrong66 thanks for the reply, I’m hoping to? I think I have a good chance of getting it, it’s coming up to 13 years since my accident and I have been in a wheelchair since September 2010, I don’t remember the exact date for the wheelchair but I know the date it happened, on the 12th of September, so I’m sure it was sometime after that but still in September because after my surgery on the 15th on my back which I shattered t-5 and I’m fused from t-1/t/7 and shortly after that I went for rehab (45) days I don’t remember when I started out in a wheelchair. But I do know that my joints from my shoulders down to my hands are not what they used to be and my doctor even put it in the referral to the rehab center for my new chair, I don’t foresee any problems with having to done.

so glad u have got the extra bits for ur chair. I got told im not disabled enough to get any funding for a chair or anything else so im had to but one my self, but I will be asking again as having spoken to my surgeon he has done me a letter say the stuff I do need so that will hopefully help. also seeing ur smile when ur were trying it out was really great did u sign an NDA for the thing u are doing? I work ing marketing and I have to sign them all the time.

Hey, you might like the Alber E-Motion wheels then, they assist every time you push, and they do slow you down when you’re on a slope. Different form of power assist but might be worth a look!

Hi Wendy. It was about £4,500! A shockingly high price when you think you can get an electric bike for £1000. But 5 - 7ths of this was paid by the Governments Access to Work scheme. Because it's used for work. The rest can be reclaimed from Motability for the 2ths used outside work. So you could essentially get them for free. However..you do need to pay for them up-front and then reclaim the money. I've heard of people taking out bank loans to do that...or scrape every piggy bank they can find. It's a challenge though. I think Ellie's new wheel chair is going to be the same model as you have.

That's interesting you don't have to charge it after every use as powerchairs you have to charge after every use to avoid damaging batteries!

Hi Sarah. You make a good point. The powerchairs you mention have batteries like a car and reduced life if left fully discharged. These power accessories have batteries which are more like a big phone..or mini Tesla, and less sensitive to their charge state.
