Testing a CHEAP 4 Season Sleep Mat!
Join me as I test out a new budget sleep mat on an overnight solo wild camp! It’s been AGES since I took my 3F UL GEAR Lanshan 2 tent out, so I decided to take it along on this one. It’s a 3 season tent and is colder than my Helm 2, so it proved ideal for testing out the new Light Tour 5.8R insulated step mat!
The Light Tour is ASTM rated with an R value of 5.8, so while not exactly the same rating as the popular Therm-A-Rest xTherm mats, it should bd warm enough for pretty much any conditions in the UK. Plus, they’re half the price of the xTherm mats.
Thanks for watching! Ben 🤓

Thermarest R6.9 no competitors before and has strong pricing power. If you like it, you will buy it no matter how expensive it is, but not now.
Bought one in January and used it 3 times. It is warmer than the cheap product and has no noise. I think this sleeping pad has met my needs. Thermarest NeoAir is too expensive and I can’t afford it.

If you want a bag for worst case winter take the in-laws scenario I would recommend an aether85 as I’ve used one for 4 years now. In practice the weight of the bag is offset by the luxury of the ag system. Not one for the gram weenies but in real life then load carrying system outweigh thegrams. I enjoy my lanshan 2 very much too but impressed you take it out this time of year. The breeze thru all that mesh annoys me in the colder months. I enjoy seeing what kit people use and what works and importantly what doesn't work.the pad looks decent but with things like that it's how they perform over time but for a decent pad imo you have to pay then you know it's istm and hopefully should work and last.ive got the kestrel 68 solid bag but for me it just wouldn't sit right on my shoulders with all my winter gear so this winter I've switched to the Atmos 65 and it feels way better with the heavier loads also with most osprey packs the size makes a difference a s/m 68 is not 68l I think it's 65 and because I'm just in between sizes I went for the l/XL in the 65 and that's 68l
Continue gear show n tell. Also when you say Merino base layer etc , details on make. Cheers

Great video Ben, I also love seeing the new gear that you try out. In fact i tend to search for new gear reviews. A question though on the Permissive sites that you use, I notice a lot of the You Tubers have these sites available to them. How do you go about identifying the Landowner? and then do you just simply knock on their door and ask permission? I always imagine Farmers and Landowners asking "what's in it for me". I'm wondering if people pay some kind of "rent" to camp on private land?. I know of a local wood to me that would be ideal to camp, but the fact that it's fenced off, suggests its private land. I don't have the first clue how to find who would owns the woods and then how to go about obtaining permission. Thanks, Alan.

This kind of camp seemed to be perfect for a gear tour and review, so keep doing them. I was hoping the sleep mat was going to be a bit more on the budget side TBH. As you said, if they could get it under £100 then it would be more attractive. Yesss💪, finally,a test of the pad. Do you find the dimensions of it inflated to be accurate? I have read some reviews on AliExpress where people stated that the pad was shorter than listed(it's the same pad,just under Naturehikes name). Also how does it compare in terms of comfort to your Exped? Does it come even close? Personally I'm considering either the Lighttour or the Nemo Tensor (am saving up for the Tensor,there is so much hype about it), but am concerned about the comfort of the pad.
@DaleyOutdoors
Жыл бұрын
I didn’t measure it but seems accurate (it’s the same length as me…). Comfort was good.
It’s all about the gear
I have this pad but branded as Naturehike. The problem with it is an interesting one in that it has little support / structure to it. I have a Nemo Tensor as well and if I pump them both up to the most that my Flextail pump will (so that they’re at the same pressure) and then press down on them with my hand, I only have to press down a little on the Nemo before I feel resistance. With this pad, there’s no resistance and my hand will go all the way down to the floor. If you’re a back sleeper, the distribution of weight is enough to prevent that, but anytime I roll I’ll bottom out. I don’t recommend this pad for this reason.

There’s also no way I’d buy it for the price you did. I only gave this a try because of a Christmas special on Aliexpress where it was ~70 pounds.
@DaleyOutdoors

You won’t get the same pressure that way. You’re only testing the resistance on the valve vs the strength of the pump. I found the valve quite strong and the Flextail gave up while there was still plenty of room left for more air.

In over 40 years of lugging a pack about, I've never heard the top of the pack called the 'brain' before. Just goes to show you're never too old to learn a new trick or terminology.
Chose this pad over a Nemo Tensor, which is the only inflatable pad officially distributed in my part of the world. The distributor here doesn’t offer pad replacements on warranty so I ultimately decided the premium price wasn’t worth it. If I lived in the US or Europe tho I would choose Exped/Nemo/S2S
