    invidious has also been defined as actions done to cause harm or to generate envy....so envious should also be an apt option what i feels?

    Just discovered this series(and your channel), this is great! If I am aiming for a 160-165 in the verbal section, approximately how many out of 30 do I need to be getting right? I am getting 25-28 right out of 30 in the 4 I have done so far.

    Hey Greg, The word 'numinous' (#1) is a synonym to 'mysterious' as per "google" dictionary. Though, I think that 'spiritual' is a stronger and better answer though. Feel a bit cheated from a perfect score on this one. *lol*

    could you please check the word canny! see on google translation it also means cautious or careful! or do you think google translation is not very accurate. this is the first time I experience this conflict with google translation and hopefully not all my translations are wrong :(

    It seems to me that Baroque could mean disjointed. If a woman is beautiful in a baroque sort of way, it means that her features don't match the typical standards of beauty, for example, she may have a prominent nose but somehow the disjointed look works. Merriam Webster seems to back this up with its third definition of baroque-irregularly shaped. Thoughts?

    Mr. Mat! In Vocabulary Test Part 12, though debatable, since "canny" means careful also, since sharp was more closely related in the sense of the definition canny, I didn't oppose it. However, for "invidious" though unpleasant is also an appropriate definition, envious would be the more accurate choice. The word invidious is derived from the latin word "invidiosus" which translates to envy, which the definition/synonym can be more commonly prioritized through Merriam-Oxford and Google.

    Hi! I have been sincerely following all lessons. In past lessons, we discussed recondite means random or obscure.. then in lesson 7, we learned arbitrary is random. Then here obscure should be arbitrary right? Why is it unknown? How will I know the difference?

  • @DFOI993

    @DFOI993

    Жыл бұрын

    Oh god, here i go again. Recondite means having little knowledge of something and not random (It is usually used in term of having knowlegdge of a particular subject), Arbitary means random you are correct here. Obscure means unknown or something that you are not able to understand. All three words are totally different. I wonder how well you did on your GRE, were you able to cross 155 in verbal?

  • @applepeel1662

    @applepeel1662

    @@DFOI993 You're wrong. Recondite is a synonym of obscure and they're not different words. Other good-to-know synonyms are arcane, esoteric and abstruse. However, arbitrary does mean random and doesn't fit well with the meaning of obscure.

    I’d say the latter because I think the former is better known. Also, with the ‘ance’ suffix, people might assume it’s a noun and get tripped up.
