It needs a longer tool rest turned around to be closer to the wood for better tool control.

could you connector this mini lathe with the digital RPM controller? i know this machine does comes with the controller on the power supply.

I have a feeling that powersupply will fail first.

I have just obtained one of these for mini wood turning. You need to do two things differently: Set the toolrest closer to your workpiece. Use your tools like chisels, NOT like scrapers as you are doing. You should produce nice continuous shavings when shaping your wood, NOT dust.

⚠ Turn the tool rest around so it sits closer to the wood. As is, you'll break the tool when the wood bites, or the tool will fly off across the room.

I'm glad I bought the version with the black metal shrouds instead of the clear plastic. I'm thinking I might be able to get a small cross slide to put in the place of the tool rest which will make things better

@@dannymadison6335 Yes, the tool rest can't move in very close to the work Not ideal out of the box.

Several questions: What kind of wood are you turning? How wide does the chuck open? What is the distance between the motor shaft and the base? (i.e. max object diameter)

@@mauroelabora Not really, I just explore with woods that I had in the workshop, they really have been tests, the lathe has good power for soft woods but it's a matter of trying whit hardwoods.

Does it have the power to turn pen blanks on? On a tight budget and a mini lathe isn’t in that budget.

I would replace this motor with sewing machine motor with pedal 220v 7000-10000u/min Pedal can be a safety part of machine😉 This motor is approx. Same size

@@KonaUte It is ok for small projects, the machine is good quality but it has it's limits. I think that making a lathe with a drill could be better.
