Test Fitting the New Turbo Engine and Transmission
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Here's a link to the previous video in the series: • How To R&R a Fox Body ...
I can't stress enough how this is just a 'test fit' of the engine, transmission, driveshaft, and a couple of other parts. That means it's all coming back out at some point. However, when it goes back in, it should be ready to go because I will have worked out all the 'bugs'.
Test fitting is important. You don't have to do it, but if you do, you'll have a much easier time during final assembly. A stitch in time saves 9 as they say.
Also, please keep in mind I won't be using the T-5 that Paul Cangialosi built for the #FairmontProject. It's not going to handle the power the engine makes, but it does have the same dimensions as the TKO 600 I'll be installing in a future video.
Here's that video series Paul and I did together on the transmission rebuild. If you haven't seen it, now that it is excellent and worth watching. Especially if you're going to build a T-5.

I feel better knowing the experienced guys have trouble just like me.
I watched this video from beginning to end. I am so happy that my project is using an engine that is a direct fit without modifications required. I'm sure something is going to pop up. Great job. Thank you.
“It makes waay more horsepower than this transmission will be able to handle, so I won’t be able to use it” said with the most satisfied smirk.... Had me Rollin 😂😂😂
The day that you go out and drive this thing for the first time will be a great moment. I can't wait!
It was extremely satisfying seeing all the parts move firmly into place when you bolted them in.
The fact that you're keeping the A/C on the car is--if you'll pardon the pun--the coolest thing ever! I love seeing that kind of functionality. :)

I still need to sort out the compressor mount. That's something I'm still struggling with. I also have to work out what I'm doing with the evaporator inside the dash. I have no idea what I'm going to run into there, but I do want to run AC. After all, I'll be driving this car during the summer for the most part.
The fairmont is looking mighty sweet!!!
Your build is good to watch, you are doing something different not like all the other channels. keep up the good work, it will all be worth it at the end.
I have to give you all credits! You are the best mechanic tutorial guy I know on KZread! Best stuff all the time!
Eric, I just starting watching your videos the last few months and I am totally on board. Your communications skills are excellent and enjoy the education.

This is going to be a bad ass Fairmont; I am looking forward to the drive time.
Loving watching this car come together.
Eric, I love how you refer to things being places somewhere as "living there" haha. Cracks me up every time.
I'm lov'in this build series. Awesome work Eric.......!
I can only imagine how much work time that actually was, aswell as physical effort. I don't work on Cars but It's wayy cool to see the process of making something work. Thanks! 💪👍🔩🔧🛠🚘
It's beautiful. Truly nice work, Eric.
Nice video Eric! Enjoy all your stuff when I'm in a bind. I like the sleeper idea and couldn't think of a better vehicle. Can't wait to see it moving. Good luck and keep up the good work [posting].
coming along nicely eric can't wait to see it once it's done.
probably my favorite video on the Fairmont. I don't agree on somethings but do what you gotta do. can't wait to see the videos of driving it.
Damn the Fairmont is looking awesome. Can't wait to see it finished.

Me either.
Getting closer! This is great stuff.
While standing beside an engine on a hoist, [super quick cut] "shall we try this again?" Dude, you just made a dank meme. Love it.
I'm glad to see you have upgraded from the seatbelt to a lifting plate.
This thing is coming out baller. I love it
video pretty much everyone been waiting for 💪💪 awesome
My god that engine is majestic. Something to behold!
WHITE ZIP TIES! ERIC YOU HAVE A LOT TO LEARN! BLACK ONES ARE BETTER. lol thanks for the video Eric!
Those good drill bits will eventually dull on you. Get you a drill Dr. I bought one a few years ago and I love it. I run into situations like you do where you break off a bolt out have friends bring me something the have broken off a bolt in. I have a good set of drill bits I use to drill holes for my taps got occasions like that and it's nice to have them sharp and ready to go!
This video gives you a good reason why people put the motor in than build the turbo setup. Makes it easy to know what you have to work around and what need to come off before you put the engine in and take out. I would have took alot less time to just take all the turbo piping off put motor in and put piping back on.

I'm happy with my choice. I only had to remove one pipe and a blow off valve. Now that the stabilizer bar has been worked out, it'll be even easier next time. Trying to put those headers on inside the car would be very difficult and take a great deal more time. Access to the fasteners is difficult with them out of the car. Also, all the cold side of the turbo still needs to be installed so in effect, I have done what you suggested. Thanks for your input.

You their has never been a easy Ford to work on. 90% are not worth working on. I'll keep with the ls Chevy's.
Great to see headers on this rather than log manifolds... smoother exhaust flow and looks cooler so it's win-win.

Hahaha that teeny tiny baby transmission. Awww... It's cute.
I love the fairmont videos. People need to be less negative. Eric, do not let other peoples negativity spoil your enthusiasm for the fairmont.... keep up the good work
Great build, keep up the good work!
great job! I enjoy watching your videos so much, thanks.
Man been a long time coming, congrads
Looking good so far.
Hey Eric I am really excited that the fairmont will be running after 2 years in a different video #FairmontRunning!!!!!!!
Nice sleeper build Eric! Love your videos :)
With everything fitting so tight, we really won't know the "true" clearance issues until after some good test runs. High speed cornering, suspension travel at max, and torque will probably present some clearance issues we can't see right now. Good job though Eric, I like how it's coming so far.
I didn't think that bar would fit like that around the oil pan either. Nice one Eric!
Brian Kast, you are doing a great job!
really looking forward to this!
Lol wow that transmission is so small! I was taken aback when you just lifted it up all willy-nilly like that. Great video!
Well done Eric.
Having cameraman Brian really makes these videos high quality

I thought I did a pretty good job before, but Brian does make tings more efficient. If I had to set up every camera angle like I used to, it would take forever to get this car done. It's already taking long enough.
Well done, Eric---glad the s bar worked out that would have sucked without it!!
enjoyed the video Eric !! look forward to next video.
Cool, one of my favourite videos of the build so far! Stupid broken bolt.
Great video Eric. Thank you.
The video we've been waiting for! Yaaaay
That engine deserves a clean engine bay. :-)
Awesome, nice one Eric
looking good. I like the longer videos on the Fairmont.
Don't you just love it when a plan comes together? HaHa! Nice work Brother. Great video.
Incredible video.
Rolling an engine hoist with a suspended engine on SMOOTH concrete is almost the best part... Because ALL of us who have done engine swaps struggle with trying to fight divots and cracks (GRAVEL) in our situations... Lucky guy you! :D

Oh, I've been there. Believe me. It's taken years to get and build the shop I have now. Totally worth it. kzread.info/dash/bejne/oZdn3LWgdaSees4.html
well detailed. I love it 👍
DEI also makes heat shielding for hoses that will match your blanket & wrap. Could be something to use for that oil hose instead.
Hey, Eric, love seeing your progress on the Fairmont. I'm not a mechanic myself, but here's a couple of tips with the drill bits: Use lubricant when drilling into metal and don't rely on "hand tightening" the bit into the chuck. While it's a failsafe method many use to avoid breaking the bit, it's often better to learn to use the ratchet of your drill instead to avoid wearing down the back end of your bit or the chuck in the worst case. Just twist the last quarter or half over to secure the bit into the chuck and with little practice, you'll find the correct ratchet setting for your hand pressure while drilling. Keep up the great work, I've learned a lot from you over the years

Hey Eric I used to smoke drill bits constantly. An old guy at work gifted me cutting oil he said he was tired of me killing my bits and didn't like the noise they made lol. He was a little crotchety. But using the cutting oil my bits last 10 times longer and the cut is faster. Just a tip passed down to me.
Looking good Eric. I highly recommend an Engine Leveler for ease of removing and installing the engine in the future. Low dollar high value item for sure. =) Thumbs up man.
Amen to Hotrodding being time consuming. It's why you have to love doing it. You have to enjoy being in the shop as much as being on the road, or else buy one that's already finished.
That driveshaft is gonna snap. I'll be waiting for the video :)

Yup, I actually watched the entire video and learned a new word that you used twice. Fitmint. To be used in a sentence: After my huge meal at Olive Garden, the server gave me a fitmint with my check. ha ha ha ha.
great job eric
thx for sharing your work
You are the polar opposite of road kill!, great project.
When drilling out a bolt I've found that frequent lubrication of the drill bit and short (10 second) bursts with lubrication between each 10 second round, keeps the bit sharp, and actually makes it bit faster since you aren't drilling with a dull bit by the end of the process. Lesson learned a few weeks ago when I had a few snapped bolts on a Water pump I did.
Great video, it felt like 5 min even though it was 45 min!
Nice job!
I just want to see this beast going down the road already!!!! Looking good though

Great video!
Nice job! Gonna be one of the nicest Fairmonts around. I think you may still have steering issues WHEN the front suspension is compressed. You may end up going to a narrower tire in the front.
Ah where would we be without zip ties? :)
Very cool video ... I am used to watching your Diagnostics and repair videos , but I haven't been getting notifications about new updates ... Just happened to see this video on the side while watching another video ... I checked , and I wasn't subscribed to your channel anymore .......... So I resubscribed , and now I have to watch this build from the beginning ............. Good Job Eric , cant wait to see how this turns out ...........

Your a great mechanic
Hey Eric, LOVE your vids! I AM JELOUS! All I want in this life is my own garage & a rwd car to build apon! personally I want a Chevrolet. My brother had a 79 z-28 with a 73 sb 400 bored .030 over, using a stroker crank, amber lightweight pistons 11/1 compression, aluminum heads, roller rockers, holley 750 double pumper with manual secondaries, th400 w/new valve body & shift kit-B&M. 3,500 STALL, 373 GEARS & MAN DID SHE RUN!!! That stroker 406 screamed & I want to remake it!!! So, if I am ever so lucky to get my garage built & find a 1973 sb400 with 4.125 stroke, id be very happy! GOOD LUCK IN ALL YOU DO & I HOPE THE FAIRMONT MAKES ALL THE POWER YOU WANT & CHEKS ALL THE BOXES!!! KEEP UP THE GOOD VIDS BRO! YOU JAVE A WINNING COMBINATION!
I'd pay to watch Eric go ham on the GSR!

Eric these are the parts of a build I love, Any one can chuck an engine in but its the finesse part that sorts the men from the boys .Making a part that took hours to make that those in the know appreciate the hours it took to fab up , but joe blogs just sees a engine mount roll bar mod and has no idea why its been done really If they notice it at all . Keep up the good work Eric Daz UK

That is one big engine...
Hi Eric. fantastic video as always. I do have one remark. That drive shaft looked a wee bit long. The plunge on the gearbox end of the trail shaft was quite deep. once the car is sitting on the ground with all its weight, plus the up travel of the suspension could bottom out the drive shaft in the gearbox. im sure you've got ot figured out now though seeing how far behind these videos are. thanks heaps as always eric :)

Good work Eric; I'm thinkin there's going to be some knocking, transmission to floor noise. I have a shoe Horne that isn't as thin as some places on that vehicle. But progress is there !!. Good work steady hand Brian !!. ( Way !!!! )
Gettin' closer.
Wow, that down pipe is a tight fit!
thats a great idea for the mustang. budget build- go fast cheap.
