Teslarossa Ep3 - more progress

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The journey of converting the Ferrari Testarossa to electric and creating the Teslarossa continues. We've now reached the point where the Tesla motor and battery pack mounts are designed, fabricated and installed. High voltage cables are starting to be run and we've upgraded the car with power steering. Charge socket is also installed as well as the all important Teslarossa badge.

I love the subtlety of mentioning a soul and nothing more, everyone will get why he says this! They're basically doing a heart&soul transplant, and opinions on this will be extremely mixed. I for one would never do it if I would ever be the proud owner of a Testarossa, but if I would do it, I'd need a special room in my huge fictional mansion to display and conserve the original V12.

Congrats on the magnificent work that you do at ECC. The conversions are incredible and infuse cars like this Teslarossa with a new "soul". I would love to see more radical conversions on cars like this Testarossa, like for instance battery packs sitting lower in the car, double or triple motors and adjustments to chassis, suspension and brakes to go with the whole pack, but I presume that's not only more costly but also more difficult to achieve. In any case, I love the results for all the classic cars that will have a new life in a new world where otherwise they would be sitting in a museum or a private garage... or barn!

From the Netherlands and driving electric since 2010 (Ampera, I3 & Id3) my favorite car to convert would be a Volvo P1800. Sacrilege in Dutch is Heiligschennis but no electric conversion so well executed as yours can fall under that term.

In German: Sakrileg. And as a German, I would opt for a Porsche 911 conversion. The aft end went out of control much too fast, at least for the less experienced drivers. I think it would greatly benefit from loosing some wheigt behind the aft wheels.

I've noticed that many of the 911 EV conversions I've seen place a bunch of battery weight out behind the rear axle ... which is unfortunate. I'm hoping that during the next 10 years, much higher-density batteries will be available (solid-state, perhaps?) and the battery bricks will be smaller, therefore less of them for the same amount of energy capacity. That should make placement less of a problem. Keep them low and entirely between the axles!

Hello from Canada! I'd love to see you do a Corvette from the "malaise" era of American cars: 1975 to 1985, when a 5.7L V8 had between 150 and 200 hp. A tuneup of weight distribution, spring rates, suspension bushings, wheels, tires, and steering should go along with the project. Even Corvette purists never criticise people when they heavily modify 'Vettes from those years.

For me it's not so much electrifying a supercar to give it more power, it's to electrify a unique and fun car that just makes me go "I have to get in that and go for a drive!" so I enjoy seeing the beetles, and the Karmann Ghias, and little Sunbeams, etc. I'm just a boring and overly-worrying person, so every time I start my car up (just a Subaru Forester) I think of all the things that can go wrong, but I doubt I'd feel that way with an electric car since there's so many fewer parts (muffler, oil, head gasket, etc). Later, he acquired a 72 supercharged Lotus Europa. Renault engine. Both of these would make an excellent conversion. Wouldn't require a massive motor or battery pack. Might require getting an X19 that has spent its life in the desert or vacuumed sealed.

One thing I thought though was will you keep the tail pipes (exhaust) just for the appearance look? A big part of the styling especially on a Ferrari is the look of the quad pipes at the back. I think this “Teslarossa” would look wrong without them (and also confuse a lot of people🤣)

Time for your electrical guys to invent some kind of a grid wiring system that would allow you to disperse batteries in a multitude of dead spots in the front of the car. I suggest a porsche 928 for a modification and Im from the state of Maryland USA. Love the channel!

I've stared up at the transaxle area of my 928, and thought that after removing the fuel tank, exhaust and transaxle, a good space might remain for a Tesla drive unit. I've heard rumors of someone having done the engineering work on a conversion (in Florida?). The mostly useless rear seat area is available, plus of course the volume vacated by the big V-8 in front. Need to start with an excellent car, cosmetically, but troubled mechanically (not mine).

Great channel guys. Love seeing what you are doing to classics. Perhaps a Westfield may have to come in one day. Sorry I’m only just over in in the Midlands of England so no language difference apart from perhaps were I to speak in the local vernacular of the Black Country. A conversion I’d love to see is that of a TVR. A 60’s Griffith or an 80’s 350 I can just imagine the joy of being able to go more than 50 miles without having to contact a tow company. Although I’m sure the work required would be a challenge.

One obvious contender must be the Porsche 928. We looked into converting ours but the price made it impractical, so we sold it and bought a Tesla Model S for the same money...

A Volvo 245. A late 70's one with the huge aluminium bumpers. I had one and I always described it as the Rhino, slow off the mark but nothing stopped it and it handled well. Raise the floor in the back for the Patteries and you could still carry a fridge in it. An EV version would be awesome.
