Back in 2007 when the iPhone was launched, the only people that I knew that could afford them were the surgeons’ and Consultants that worked in the same hospital as me. Fast forward a few years and now and 10 year old kids have them. Cybertruck will become ubiquitous and may sell millions of units as production scales and prices soften. The Cybertruck is already a design icon and needs no badging on its exterior to herald its arrival. Its practicality is staggering and its innovative technology groundbreaking. Yes, take my money I have two reservations and I’m quite happy to wait a little while longer for them both.

I believe the weight wouldn’t actually be an issue if it was classed as a commercial vehicle. There was some adjustments made to the law to allow standard licence holders to drive EV commercial vehicles up to 4.2 tonnes. This was to allow for the additional weight for the battery while retaining a reasonable load. I believe part of the reason they could do this was due to the additional braking capacity supplied by the regen which negates the extra weight causing inertial problems when braking. The crash stuff however can’t be surpassed it seems, those are crazy corners. I would however be interested to see if again, it could curb some of those crash standards by being classed as commercial as vans/ pickups don’t have to adhere to the same safety standards. Great video, did not realise the had a cybertruck over here!

New driving laws regarding weight are being changed to allow everyone with a standard license to drive up to 4.2t to both allow for increased weights or BEVs. The way it stands allows up to 3.5t plus towing added make up to the 4.2t. So what they are moving to is the main driving vehicle being 4.2t which is safer to drive than a combined towing unit. Remember they removed the restrictions on allowing those younger drivers to be able to tow a trailer etc without a test for towing.

They should have had 2 versions mid-size for Europe /small roads and the usual us version size

NOOOO I need a larger one! I had larger cars in the past, no problem at all. Ford Transit is larger, Mercedes Sprinter and all the others are ALL larger than the CT.

It does need a few changes for the EU, but the equipment within it could reduce costs for producing cheaper cars.

G'Day. The CT is already available to order in Australia. In fact, there are already more than 30,000 orders ! But we will have to wait for the Americans to get all theirs first I presume...

It must be difficult to clean the inside of the windscreen because it looks almost horizontal.

I did see it in Edinburgh but the Tesla person said probably will not be in Europe without major changes from the US version

Thanks for another great video Ian. I’ve just been in Los Angels and have to admit that I was one of those people that took pictures of every Cybertruck I saw. Agree with your observation, it’s not as big as I was expecting and compared to a lot of American trucks it looks quite an average size. In my humble opinion it’s such a cool, futuristic looking vehicle and I’d love to have one. From what I saw in America, no one is using it as a truck, it’s just for posing, which it’s perfect for. 👍

Here in Scotland pickup trucks are working vehicles. It would be *wild* to see a Cybertruck used like that! Would still be dwarfed by the huge tractors we get here

I see something similar coming from Tesla for the rest of the world. A bit of new bodywork and a bit less size and weight would be easy to engineer.

My understanding was that the rules on weight were adjusted for EVs. It's good to debunk the myth of it being "too big for UK roads" though, and regarding the pedestrian protection - well that's separate debate. I hope they can get round it because it's a fabulous product

@@bartvanderheijden7055 UK has many F-150 brought in by US armed forces, Danger to pedestrians no different to Mercedes G wagon or older range rover with big bull bar and they all had very big engines just behind the grill. The CT has a Frunk behind the grill. The bumper is plastic.

Yes I believe they are coming to Australia as a lot of people have placed orders. When they might actually arrive is another thing! 2 years minimum until volume ramps up more. We have one here also that’s a promotional truck same as you guys it’s doing the tour of OZ. 👍🇦🇺

I recently did a 4000 mile road trip around the states in a hire TESLA model Y and saw two of these cyber truck at superchargers and parked the model Y beside it. I was actually surprised it was not larger, really not being substantially bigger than a model X. Personally I’m not a fan of its looks, and would rather have a model X myself, as I do in the UK. However, as a piece of engineering and technology the cyber truck is quite incredible.

It needs a big overhaul to sell outside the US. I like Tesla (have two) but the CT is a bit of a vanity project and does fly in the face of Tesla's environmental ambitions. Make it smaller, round off the edges and use traditional steel and aluminium. It could be very good!

I love your videos. I sense you don't think too highly of American's.

Not at all! America has given so many things to the world! But there seems to be an assumption that what is in America must be the same everywhere. Which isn’t true. I’m lightly jesting…

Lexus announced steer by wire for the RZ a couple of years ago. Not 100% certain they've actually sold any but it was reviewed a lot. Cybertruck definitely first "car" with it as standard equipment.

Not completely. No. Some trekkers have electric steering. Or hydraulic. But no passenger car. Mercedes B-Class had electric steering in the 1990s. After a few nasty accidents they stopped and scrapped them.

Within the next year as the number of CyberTrucks on American roads increase, the chances are very high that there will be an incident where another road user or pedestrian will be horrifically decapitated by a Cybertruck in what should have been a survivable accident. There will almost certain be reports of young children having being harmed, losing fingers or having an eye poked out, because it doesn't take two seconds to see that the CyberTruck has been designed by ignoring everything that has been learnt about road safety. Apart from it being an EV the CyberTruck would seem to have very little in the way of green or environmental credentials. It is a design that seems to be the result of a five minute "concept" sketch. The drive by wire and four wheel steering seem to be features that are needed to solve the the design's own created problems. The result is not a workhorse vehicle and is so bland inside that it could not be considered luxury, although it does come with a hefty price tag. A novelty vehicle that like a body tattoo will only be original and cool for a brief moment in time and then people are stuck with it. Chances are that CyberTruck owners have about six months to gain from an appreciating asset, then the value will plumet and it might even become the world's fastest depreciating vehicle. Tesla trying to ham-fistedly prevent owners selling their trucks within the first year is going to be interesting to see play out. A mark of a good design often is that it creates polarised opinions, too many people like something and it becomes cheesy. The CyberTruck won't be seen on UK and EU roads and for very good reasons, in America, not having the safeguards in place doesn't magically mean that there won't be any problems. In a country that does like a class action Tesla could be heading for something reminiscent of the The 1977 Ford Pinto. For quite sometime people purchasing a CyberTruck will be unsure if people are laughing with them or at them.

US pedestrian road death figures have been steadily increasing over the past 2 decades, correlating very well with the rise of SUVs (Which exist because they use the legal loophole of being a 'light truck', so US car emission standards didn't apply). Not Just Bikes here on youtube did an absolutely phenomenal video a while back about the history of SUVs, and literally nothing in the history of them as a vehicle class was in the interests of the public. It's got the the point where people in the US are importing Kei trucks from Japan because that's the only way to get a practical, cheap to buy, reliable and cheap to run truck designed to be used for actual work. There's also a cohort of people running pickups from the 80s when they were still designed for people who actually needed trucks to do work that can't replace what they have with anything as useful. The pickup truck market at this point is almost entirely for completely selfish people cosplaying at being 'working class', and that's by design because the profits are higher on luxury goods and car companies don't pay for the increased deaths they cause.

I went to my letterbox yesterday, and there was an EV truck with local council livery. It was an SEA electric conversion (made in Melbourne Australia). Speaking to the driver, it has 200km range, double what he needs. It is plugged in over night at the depot. Good to see my council rates being used correctly for a change...

Personally I think it looks hideous. Apparently they are not selling in the US and they can’t get rid of the inventory. I think those that bought one in the US are going to regret it. But I guess each to their own.

The only inventory are those awaiting final safety checks or those enroute to the customer release depots. Tesla is selling as quickly as they can be made. Now making 1,300 a week, 2,500 a week by year end and 5,000 a week sometime in 2025. In 2024 they will outsell Ford and GM BEV trucks combined. Currently still selling the Foundation models which cost $20k more. Next year they will start selling the RWD at $60k which will get $7,500 government discount. That might outsell some ICE trucks.

Tesla don't give a rat's ass about the environment - when Munroe Live (Who have gone from a decent engineering channel to absolutely shameful Tesla fanboys over the past year or so - I'm beginning to think the lead guy has invested his retirement money in their very overvalued shares and is starting to panic) pulled it apart, their battery guy made the comment that the CT battery is even less serviceable than the already completely unserviceable Model Y structural battery, so if/when it dies it will be a whole battery replacement every time. No company that claims to be saving the environment would think this is a good idea. The resources that put one battery in a CT would get 10 entire houses off the grid on battery backed solar, or put batteries in a similar number of plug in hybrids, which would have enough range to be electric only for all their day to day use without dragging an extra 500 kg of battery everywhere to make it just about acceptable for rarer long trips, which are still hampered by the long charging times anyway. Tesla is for hoovering up as much government grant money as possible, it won't save the world, but it will make a bunch of pump and dump specialists rich.

I hate maxus vans thay are a rip off the ford transit van just get one for a drving experience company

Have you seen the construction of modern 'Utes' in Australia. Once you weren't allowed to fit heavy 'bull bars' to vehicles for safety reasons. There is no safety for pedestrians with Australian Utes. We can accept the CybeTruck without further thought. (Australia).

Maybe in Grünheide. Not in the US. Maybe sometimes in India or Malaysia. In Monterrey sometimes in 2026. I am not sure about Shanghai. BYD makes more and cheaper cars. Tesla could not compete with those. They are extremely unsafe in China. Tesla had to learn what to put in the small car. 48V, steer by wire, stainless steel, fully integrated die cast, distributed high speed ethernet, distributed controller architecture. All of those has to be erfect with the Model (2/Q/T). This vehicle will be built with running improvements until private cars are mostly gone in 2040.

You don't want to buy that POS anyway.

After WW2, the USA Army sold off all their trucks in Europe to locals wanting to rebuild their homes, farms and businesses. The trucks were very very popular that governments of Europe placed a huge import tax upon them for fear the sales success of the US trucks would undermine the recovery of local manufactures. Look up ‘Chicken tax’ as it became known as. The cut off weight for EV’s is 4.25 tons, so no, folk will be able to drive it just fine, it’s no bigger than a Ford Transit van.
