    @Bryan, great list of tips. I've been having issues with the default USB stick, it doesn't work and won't save my videos. A fix is to unplug and plug it back in. Did using the MicroSD fix that issue for you?

  • @bryanhauer

    Hey John! It did fix the issue for me. I linked to the high speed USB reader/card I used in the description. Not sure why Tesla uses a USB stick, but all I've had is problems with that or a larger capacity SSD. After doing a ton of research the consensus was using a microSD card. This is what almost all dash cams use as well. Seems to have done the trick. You can format it in the car on newer Tesla's or format it on a computer using the following directions: tesladriver.net/howto-format-usb-tesla-dashcam-sentry-mode/

    @@bryanhauer I have an update. With the micro SD thumb drive you purchased, I’m still getting the USB drive not available quite often. I would have to remove it and format it often. I wonder if it is a software or hardware issue. I’m on V11.0 (2022.12.3.12) the files saved during drives is 1hr each previous with the drive that came with the car I think it was only 10 min each file which I prefer. Any thought would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Thanks so much for this video. Being an older single woman driving in places where EVs are not welcome, often isolated, as well as cities and traveling through cities but stopping to see sights with fully loaded car, I have been anxious about keeping everything secure. First time I learned they fixed the frunk issue so now I feel secure in leaving valuables in frunk overnight or when visiting museums en route. Excellent.

    Good timing on the video. A few days before you published this video, I was out shopping and when I returned to the car there was a Sentry event recorded. But when I tried to view it, I couldn’t view anything on the drive. So I just got the SanDisk micro sd card you recommended. Hi Bryan, I just took delivery of my Model 3 a week ago and thanks for the useful video. I want to chime in on the Sentry Mode: I found the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD (the non-Pro version; the Pro version may generate issues either in the computer or in the Tesla) very useful; it has very good and sustainable read/write speed in case we want to quickly dump files into the computer to make room when it's full; we can also partition it into two smaller 'drives,' one has the 'TeslaCam' folder for TeslaCam and the other containing music which the car also recognizes separately (for entertainment).

    Congrats on the new Model 3, Simon! I have that drive too and it's been pretty good, but was still occasionally having issues. I switched to the micro sd card option in the video and it's been much better, but every now and again gives me problems. I think I need to make an appointment with the service team when I get done traveling in a couple weeks. Appreciate the tip though and is a great option for most.

    Thank you for the tips. I will be buying some “protection” to keep in the glove box thanks to an encounter I had in broad daylight while charging: My wife and I went shopping and charged at a non-supercharger charging station ~5 minute walk away. When we got back, we had extra time to kill before our next destination, so we decided to charge a little longer. After a few minutes, a homeless man entered the charging area where we and many other cars without their owners were. He began talking to himself and walked behind our MY, back and forth, left and right. This went on for 15+ minutes and we kept our eyes on him in the mirrors (and cameras at times). Our charge was done, but so I waited for a moment when he finally turned his back on us and walked far enough away. I silently opened the door and left it open in case I needed to jump back in. I quickly removed the charger and put it back in the station/holder. At this point he saw me, but I was already heading back into the driver seat. We left right away and I could see him in the rear mirrors yelling and cursing at us as we drove away. So yeah…. Not a nice thing to experience with being a new EV/Tesla owner for less than a month. Next time I’ll be ready with protection.

  • @bryanhauer

    @bryanhauer

    Жыл бұрын

    Just make sure to verify your state's laws and of course only use "protection" when and if it's actually needed. Since I camp a lot I tend to carry bear spray in the car as well which will usually do the trick in an emergency and isn't lethal. Luckily I haven't had many instances where I truly felt threatened, but it's always best to be prepared. Most of my charging experiences have been safe with no issues. I will say that many of the non-Tesla charging options tend to be at Walmarts and places where there's opportunities for more issues compared to Supercharger locations.

  • @HypocritesExposd

    @HypocritesExposd

    @@bryanhauer I was just thinking of regular old pepper spray. I’ll double check my state’s laws just in case though. Thanks! Edit: yup it’s legal to use in self defense in my state Yeah non supercharger locations can be sketch. In my case, it was in a church parking lot.

    When it comes to the Sentry Cam, there are only 2 companies that I deal with when it comes to SD Cards, or SSD and that is Samsung and Sandisk, as they both have good reputation for quality...the other companies, I haven't heard much about, and is the reason I only deal with these 2 companies as I use them for the computer and tablet, now also with the Tesla

  • @bryanhauer

    @bryanhauer

    They do. Back when I filmed this Tesla was only providing I believe 64GB thumb drives which didn't save a lot of footage and they would often lose connection so people would opt for larger, more reliable storage options like SSD's. I believe they now provide more reliable 128GB sticks so less of a need to buy your own.

    What refrigerator do you use and would you recommend it? The car is able to output enough to constantly run it without blowing the fuse ?

  • @bryanhauer

    @bryanhauer

    Жыл бұрын

    I use this one as it fits in my sub-trunk: ICECO Portable Electric Fridge/Freezer: geni.us/jZCIH I used to use this one as it was larger, but is a good option for two people or if you want more rugged: Bodega Portable Fridge/Freezer: geni.us/ksJIgM Both are great options. The ICECO is a bit smaller and lighter, but for one person it's great. The Bodega is larger has wheels and is rugged. The car will keep it on for weeks if you need it to. I suggest putting the voltage setting on most portable fridge/freezers at Medium on a Tesla and that will keep it going as long as you need it. Just make sure to keep Sentry Mode on at all times or if you're camping or switch the car to Camp Mode. Both of these keep the car in an awake state (no harm even for long weeks) otherwise the car goes to sleep and the 12v will then turn off.

    I should have clarified. It's not active cause you're using the car. My point was you just set Sentry Mode to on once and leave it on all the time and then when you get to a camp spot you turn on Camp Mode. (Meaning: You don't have to mess with Sentry Mode once you set it. It will of course be active when you're away or inactive when you're using the car automatically ie Camp Mode or driving etc...)

    If the car is plugged in to a charger, but is not charging because of a scheduled start, it will still terminate sentry mode if the charge level drops to 20% and presumably this also applies to other features that keep the computer active. This is dumb and Tesla ought to fix it! It ought to use just enough power from the charger to maintain the battery level prior to the scheduled start of charging.

  • @bryanhauer

    @bryanhauer

    Жыл бұрын

    I don't have any experience with Scheduling charging, but that does seem silly. You'd think the car would at the very least trickle charge to maintain power while it waits for the charging session to start. Not sure if you're on Twitter, but tagging Elon & Tesla in a Tweet about this does occasionally get their attention & work. Thanks for the heads up!

    I was thinking about such an event, if I go out of town and leave my Tesla plugged in the driveway. My plan/thinking was to charge immediately to get to 27%. Then schedule charge daily for just enough time to get +10% battery life. That way, the 7% of sentry node is covered.

  • @bryanhauer

    @bryanhauer

    Жыл бұрын

    I think you missed the point of the video. This worked on any car fob. Not just Tesla. They just used Tesla because of the name. It was also fixed a long time ago in a software update. Yes. Anything can be broken into given enough time and money and the hacker spent a long time coming up with that. Then the other guy had to search the dark web for it, buy it, know what he was doing and then commit a crime. The point of security is to minimize. If you think your house is safe someone can just kick in the door or break a window or bypass your security system. Anyone can throw a rock through your window on your car and grab anything inside. Most thieves aren't Jason Bourne or Ocean's 11. They're looking for easy targets. Also the pin prevents this from happening in the first place as he may get in, but can't drive anywhere. I'd stay it's probably the most secure car ever made with pin to drive, 8 cameras, alarm with push notifications, GPS tracking etc... Nah... your'e good. Oh and if you're worried about people stealing your pin... don't ever use an ATM 😀
