Tesla Plaid slayer revealed.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

It's time to reveal our 2022 in-house project. This one is going to be special. Tesla Plaid, we're coming for you..... We're going to build the ultimate electric track orientated car, without the restrictions of having to build around an existing road car. Hold on to your hats, this one's going to fast!!!

    problem is that the smaller the battery pack, the smaller the amps it gives. You cant get 1000Amps from a 20KWh battery. You need the KWh. So again its a balancing game.

    (Assuming Tesla-style battery packs) I would imagine that, if you spin them vertical, you could get 2/3 batteries attached to the frame behind the seat, possibly both sides of that frame. I can see space for a battery in the flat area below the bonnet hood, possibly one above and one below again, just bolt through such that the one above lifts the one below. I can see space for more batteries attached to the roll-cage sides, again you could spin them vertical, possibly, if they won't foul the opening, or maybe one horizontal and one vertical towards the rear. Or, you could build a battery tray and suspend the batteries below the chassis, giving you plenty of room. You would have to jack the suspension up but, given that the weight is still really low down in the chassis, that should not mess with the handling. You could use the strength of the chassis and put the batteries on the floor tray, lifting the seat as you mentioned, but equally it might be possible to find a seat with good clearance underneath and advantageous mounting points, if you can then spread the batteries around between the seating mount point. You then just need room for your seat. Handbrake could be mounted from the dash board ?

    I'd love to see some paddle-activated regen in an electric racecar. I love the thought of managing breaking in a corner with various strengths of regen, maybe a little tap on the break, then accelerate through the apex. Sounds fun! Plus, embrace the efficiency of electric!

  • @fbrs9915

    @fbrs9915

    2 жыл бұрын

    This makes no sense. In a modern EV the strength of regen is determined by how hard you brake. Once you reach the drivetrain's capacity to regen then it'll add in regular brakes on top of that to slow you down. In normal driving the regular brakes are rarely activated unless you brake very hard.

  • @bkaye135

    @bkaye135

    2 жыл бұрын

    As I understand, the amount of regen is managed by the control unit. This can be set to driver preference (release of throttle = coast OR regen with braking effect). The scenario I'm envisioning is the driver has "coast" setting so that releasing the throttle doesn't engage any braking effect. Then, the driver activates an increased regen/braking through a paddle, only hitting brakes in corners that require it. This keeps brake heat down (saving it for a corner that needs cool brakes) and reduces wear, and maybe gets you a little extra distance from the battery along the way.

  • @dehanbadenhorst1398

    Breath taking performance is certainly available with EVs. A talk about biasing the spec and construction of EVs toward efficiency and range would be useful too. How to maximise mpg-e without making an EV unattractive? An electric Defender can be fast and good off road - obviously - but suppose we limited top speed to 85mph and the 0-60 time to 10secs, how far might it then go?

    Excellent project, it will be dynamic. I recommend going with a swappable battery pack configuration so that the pack weight can be adjusted to suit the track. A super/ultracapacitor battery pack will be super expensive but the weight will be very light compared to more conventional batteries. For the absolute maximum performance battery pack weight is paramount. Major limitation with capacitor batteries is range, so alternative packs become a necessity.

What are your plans to minimize EVPF from heat soak? As for battery placement, obviously a pair of L pack under the driver, and coming up the side of the seating position, separated by the drive shaft. The second immediately behind & in front of the driver, but I think you will have to make a way to surround the motors and gearbox/drivetrain, to make them fit. Then what about the controller and cooling, the equipment AND the driver? Bitchin build! Can’t wait to see it happen, May the Schwartz be with you. (Hint: plaid, Spaceballs)

    If that's RWD, the body length is going to impact on keeping front wheels down during a drag race. Also if RWD, F1 style sticky tyres may be needed to get enough traction. If you position the batteries too far forward to counter lifting front wheels, it may also end up being front heavy on low acceleration and cornering. If you want good air conditioning, just forgo the body panels.
