Tesla Model Y vs Toyota Mirai: WARNING, Tesla Fanboys Will HATE This Video!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Tesla has led the charge into the future of battery-electric cars, but is it really the car of the future? What about hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles like the new 2021 Toyota Mirai? In this video, Roman and Tommy take a closer look at both cars.

I think hydrogen is more convenient for drivers (if the infrastructure was the same as gas stations) than electric cars nowadays. But the problem with hydrogen is that the whole process is not very efficient. From getting electricity to generate hydrogen, then compress it and use it in the car, if I remember correctly, it was around 40% when an electric car is more like 70% or so. I think when the battery technology allows a driver to charge an electric car in 10 minutes for 200 miles/300 km, then the whole hydrogen thing would be obsolete. When that would be? I also have a 310 mile range on my model 3 which is more then I'll use any day unless I'm going on a road trip. One might say "road trips on an electric car suck" but I've gone on a road trip once a week over 400 miles and charging is really nice on trips. In a gas car it's GO GO GO if you have to wait 5 mins for a pump you're annoyed because you want to get to your destination. In an EV you stop for 20-30 minutes, grab lunch, stretch, go to the restroom, etc and you feel refreshed after getting in the car

For example, being that the heated seats are run through the computer and not through a button I can warm up the car from inside the house before I leave and turn on the passenger heated seat and the rear heated seats if I'm taking my family with me, all through my phone. Another interesting thing is what do u have to do with basically any car to get the new features that are coming out in the newly released model year? Answer trade in your car for the most part. With my Tesla any time a new feature is released it just does an update and now my car is better than when I bought it. Obviously if it's a physical part of the car it can't update that over the air

And my experience has been overall positive and enjoyable and it makes me question when people are fear mongering about range and charge times and the screen and everything else without actually living with those things on a day to day basis. I had severe range anxiety until the first time I actually drove the car. Once I realized how it all works that anxiety was gone. Once I realized the benefits of being able to refuel at home instead of having to go wait in line a crowded gas station after work when it's minus 30 outside. My charging concern was gone. Once I lived with the screen for a couple days I was no longer concerned that I didn't have buttons or a gauge directly in front of me. That's just me and my opinion based on my actual experience. I was concerned about those things before as well until I actually owned the car and my fears were proven to be unfounded.

The BIGGEST factor for 95% of drivers is; the third output of a hydrogen fuel stack besides electricity and water, is HEAT! Heat coming off the stack keeps the interior cabin and battery component warm. The Tesla needs to burn range amps from their battery for resistance heaters. In Canada (and Colorado), Tesla range is terrible on cold days. In Canada & USA, there is an abundance of ‘blue’ hydrogen left over from petroleum and petrochemical processing.

That same fuel call will only operate for a few days or maybe weeks, in a carefully controlled environment. It doesn't have to be cost effective or last for years. This is different in the auto sector. Those fuel cells have to last for thousands of hours, operate in variety of environments and be cost effective. Fuel cells are simply not cost effective for passenger cars. They can be cost effective for buses, trucks, ships and airplanes however. Battery cars are simpler, cheaper to operate, last longer, and don't require any infrastructure changes beyond routine power grid maintenance and upgrades.

@@fgeiger41 I think we will see fuel cells in the future in some forms. They definitely have their applications and uses. They have fuel cell fork lifts for example which appear to work well. But I think in passenger cars they simply don't make sense. Batteries have already advanced past the point where fuel cells can catch up. Due to space limitations and infrastructure limitations, passenger cars are not the future. But truck and bus depots and commercial applications where you can have Hydrogen station supporting a fleet of vehicles like trucks and buses, that is definitely an application that may work.

@@badgerpa9 spectrum.ieee.org/energy/batteries-storage/lithiumion-battery-recycling-finally-takes-off-in-north-america-and-europe Right now there isn't a huge demand for recycling since there really isn't many bateries to recycle yet. The bulk of current recycling needs are for portable electronics but they pale in comparasion to the amount of materials in EV batteries. Tesla currently recycles any battery pack they replace on their vehicles. They have even created their own in house process for this. Other manufacturers also require customers to return their batteries to them for recycling when replacing as well. However replacements have been rare and been mostly for warranty/defect reasons. It just isn't economical to not recycle the batteries. Nickel and Cobalt are too valuable and rare to be wasted in landfills.
