Have a Model Y getting ready for delivery and had to stop by the Porsche dealership yesterday to fully rule out the macan before a convicted decision. This was great timing and very relatable. gotta love porsche but i think the wow factor of the driving experience in the model y is hard to beat now. Great video

Tesla model y is the best suv your money can buy now.

That's a lot of buttons in the Macan. CarWow did a video with a drag race between a Macan, Model Y Long Range, and a BMW Diesel SUV. The guy driving the BMW (he was actually to owner of the Tesla) counted 85 buttons in the car. A few buttons are okay but when you get that many, it is no longer convenient. BTW, in the race, first round went to the Macan but after buying the performance upgrade (took 20 minutes for the OTA update to take effect) for the Tesla it took the 2d and 3d runs.

The CarWow video used a Macan GTS. The regular Macan can’t take it up with the Model Y. Not even close.

85 real tactile buttons is way better than whatever so many touches you have to make to get deep in the menu just to get your wipers going or whatever you want. You always have to scroll and tap some glass. And all that time your eyes aren’t on the road anymore , very distracting and dangerous. But with those buttons, within a week your finger will exactly know where is each one and find it right away without looking away from the road. I mean it’s your car and you get to know it by heart. It’s almost a safety feature. ( also looks like a jet’s cockpit).

The Macan is missing a button which makes all the other buttons disappear. 😂

Thanks for the fun video. I've owned my Macan S for a little over 5 years now. Owning a Porsche definitely comes with some perks but low cost of ownership isn't one of them. I'm now getting ready to sell it for a Model Y.

The Macan is a great car! I've had the opportunity to drive several and it really is the best handling SUV. I agree, it's also the best looking.

I haven’t road-tripped nearly as far as you, but my experience with road tripping my LR is it doesn’t take longer. I prefer road-tripping the Model Y over anything!

As Jab above … I refused to believe the Tesla autopilot reduced fatigue …. but it does! It makes a huge difference. Ps I have driven my MY twice between the Algarve and Scotland. It’s incredible on road trips.

It's really interesting that when you appraise the PDK but ignoring instant max torque from model Y. PDK can be faster than regular gear, but still could be very noticeable lagging in the beginning.

Bring 2016 Macan and compare with 2020 Model Y, complaining PCM isn’t just right. At least bring same model year car then compare convenience, technology comes with them. Ride quality, Build quality Tesla can’t even come to toe close to Porsche.

The biggest difference I noticed was the absence of drivetrain/exhaust noise in the MY.

Great detailed video of the comparison. I own a performance model & was doing the comparison with the Taycan AWD & 4S. Also, all the upgrades that Porsche charges is ridiculous (IMO). Do you anticipate on doing one with a Taycan vs M3PD+? That would be a great video as well. Keep up the good work, love the channel 👍🏽

You forgot to go over the driver assist difference. I drove a Porsche Taycan this week , $147,000 , not top of the line, and the driver assist is a joke compared to the most basic Tesla.

Great video! I love gobs of buttons 😅 the Porsche is less plain. Although some do like plain.

As an owner of both, I can say that Tesla feels much more modern, has much more baggage space, and its acceleration is amazing. But Macan is much more comfortable, exciting to drive, and handling and suspension are on another level. I would love to have an electric Macan with Tesla infotainment and efficiency.

things go in cycles - there was a time that all wing mirrors were black and it was huge when coloured one came in. And chrome delete is a thing because we got bored with chrome. Some things are good just because they're different

I won't saw "ew! Buttons!" But I will point out that a lot of people claim you need to take your eyes off the road for too long with the screen, but there's two dozen buttons between the seats that are somehow not the same? I suspect that you get muscle memory going in both cases. The point where that changes is if/when tesla decides they're going to change the UI.

Good comparison & info. Yes the two vehicles aren’t perfectly comparable but you can use the info as a general guide and extrapolate from there. I had a BMW X4 & almost got a Macan before test driving & getting a MYP. My main consideration was safety. SUV’s can flip over surprisingly easily. I didn’t fully appreciate this until attending a BMW driving school & seeing the instructors demonstrate the difference between an X3 and 3 series in the slalom. Given this, I wanted the Tesla five star crash rating. The Macan seemed to have tested well in Europe but it was tough to get a direct comparison when I bought my MYP in mid 2021. I’m in the NE & have taken the MYP on ski trips in bad weather with ice & snow. I have a set of winter wheels with snow tires & the handling, traction & stopping is outstanding. I would have preferred to have a leather interior but I understand the concept. We’ll see in 6 years if the “vegan” leather holds up as well as the interior of your Macan:).

We are still programmed to like the front grills on ICE vehicles, a prerequisite for a gas engine so the EV front end comparison is not entirely fair. We are at a major crossroads with car interiors similar to the invasion of the smart phone VS the last hold outs with the blackberry, some like buttons and other s like their screens but eventually someone has to win.

Great video. I can compare my M3 LR w acceleration boost to two Porsche 911’s I’ve owned. Porsches are fucking cool. No doubt. Dollar for dollar the Tesla is better. But, it’s not a real comparison. The 911’s are expensive and ridiculously costly to maintain/repair. Haha, like comparing a hot great wife to an earlier hot kinda crazy girlfriend. The wife is way better, but I still remember and think about the girlfriend 😅

Thank you so much for posting this, I see some people feel that this was an unusual comparison but I personally found it to be exactly what I was looking for. I used to own a Macan (2016) and loved it but wanted to go electric and have been patiently waiting for the release so in the meantime purchased a Telsa Y Performance and absolutely fell in love with it. The electric Macan finally released a week or so ago and was shocked at the starting price so started thinking of maybe going back to gas but couldn't decide if I should give up my Tesla that I love so much so searched out video comparisons and found you. It is a tough choice because the Tesla does have so many neat features but I am in a sea of them (I live on the west coast) and I am also a huge fan of the Macan so it was great hearing your comparison of the 2 vehicles. End result is I am picking up my new Macan GTS on Tuesday - thanks again!!!

Unfair comparison should be compared to the 2022 Model Macan which has larger updated infotainment system and touch sense buttons on the middle console amongst many other updated changes.

Maintenance cost will be remarkably higher on the Porsche. However I absolutely love Porsches.

Reviewers always bitching about Teslas having no buttons... but man do I prefer that to the 236 buttons on that Macan center console 🙈 Edit: I want to add that the 236 real buttons on your Macan are way better than those 236 weird touch buttons on the new model 😅

I am one who thinks the Y is the better looking car--a bit sleek versus a bit clunky. That said, I would be willing to pay for a Y luxury package--air suspension, overhead camera, a few more fancy bits and features inside. I am definitely a car guy and the driving pleasure of my Y is pretty much peerless.

Where did you get those roof rack for Tesla Model Y? Anyone know?

It’s wild how much Tesla people love their cars. Our Model Y is great and we bought ours over a Macan, but there’s no doubt that the Macan has better styling and a much nicer interior. The tech is just severely lacking…even on the current MY. Still love the Macan though, one of the best small CUVs on the market.

I prefer the model y interior. Clean and minimal. Tesla nailed the interior design.

Something to consider is autonomy. No matter what your feelings are on the matter, Tesla is getting closer and closer every year. Never mind soon, right now, Teslas are completing many drives with zero interventions. It won’t be long before for $200 a month, all teslas will drive themselves.

Model Y all day long for me. 20k less (plus sale tax saving on this) + 7500 tax credit + state incentives + gas saving + maintenance saving + no hassle at dealership and ton of hidden charges. I think I will be saving 40k over 5-8 years of ownership

Just jealous you can get a Macan S for $68k over there. The Macan S goes for $155k here in Western Europe. Strangely enough the Tesla pricing over here is almost the same as in the US.

I was hoping you were talk about interior space. We have 2021 Macan thinking to get a model Y. The number 1 complaint my wife has is that the Macan is too small.

Nice comparison. I have a Y, but I agree the Macan is the best looking SUV. I've never owned a Porsche (many Bimmers), but I agree that the quality of Porsche is probably the best and the customization is extraordinary. Tech, however, can't be beat on the Y. I can't justify the $20K premium price for the Macan, plus the much higher maintenance cost, and at the end of the day, I wanted an EV. So even if money were no object, I would have still gone for the Y at this point. It will be interesting to see what Porsche ultimately does when it expands its EV models. Have to say that Tesla's playing with prices, so that I paid $10K more than it is selling for now, was a total turn-off. I now have no loyalty to the brand.

Smart ass answer but with a second's thought you should have realized that's dumb. Do I need Tesla as a car company? No, there will be loads of competition, building cool EVs. Does Tesla need repeat buyers? You bet. Elon thinks of Tesla as the Apple of autos. No a chance. Apple builds premium products and charges premium prices, but knows about brand loyalty (they're genius at it). Elon doesn't have a clue. If you had any marketing chops, you would know this.

Technology and gas saving and maintenance and many more from Model Y are outweigh Porsche Macan or any SUV any day. I own Macan and model 3. My next cars are Tesla, no question ask.

It's kind of funny what brought me back to your video today. I already own a Tesla and a Porsche, but every time Elon does something to piss me off, I think about selling my Tesla. Happening more and more lately 🙂

Like buttons, dont mind the 2016 navigation. Thinks Tesla over the air updates are overrated. If it wasn’t all beta from start, the car would have been functional at delivery…😮 and Ev’s are daily commuters = boring. Ice is more a drivers car.🎉

I’ve driven both and in comparison I’d rather have Porsche Macan the sheer thrill and fun and performance of the Porsche is superior to the Tesla. The Tesla feels cheap, quality of build is not there the suspension creaks and way more stiff and you feel every bump

The biggest deciding factor for me is that ICE cars just feel so yesterday, we've been there and done that, it's time for something new, it's why EVs are so fresh and forward looking, not backward looking. And because they're new we forgive them for not having some of the things ICE cars have, because ICE manufacturers have been doing that, and incidentally nothing else, for decades. They've had years of getting their cabins to fit better, and all the rough edges removed. Tesla don't do this but they're doing all the important stuff, and doing it really well. And catching up on all the rest

Maybe its just me but I do not see why these two are being compared to each other. If you are looking at a Y, are you considering a Macan and Vice Versa? The ony reason why the Macan exists is because Porsche was influenced by the market and had to make a SUV. The Y is part of Tesla's mission to make fuctional electric cars and the Y is their more affordable vision on that. This is apples and oranges.

Model Y, you win. Ugliest suv ever with no blind spot monitoring, you have to look in the centre screen which is dangerous and counter intuitive.

I don't like the suspensions on the 3 and Y. X and S are way better probably due to having air suspensions. However, the body structure helps a great deal as well in keeping the nastiness of bumps out and the wheels planted. When cars are updated, the body structures of almost all of them are made stronger. This makes for a more solid feeling car. If Tesla just wants to update software and not update the bodies, then they won't benefit from strengthening their body rigidity (and I don't think gigapress is the answer to get the bodies stronger).

Have to disagree. I think the Model Y looks much nicer than the Macan. The Macan is meh IMHO.

Tesla Model Y is not luxury so the comparison is not there. Macan's reliability is questionable. I would say you will be more happy with Model Y.
