    I think if you became more familiar with the car you’d find it may work for you. It only takes about 10 minutes to reach 50% range at a Super Charger Station. Thats safely 150 miles of range. Lets say you get 300 miles before needing to recharge with a Long Range Model 3. Spent 10 minutes a day recharging for an additional 150 miles of range? Doable. The technology is perfect for someone like yourself that clocks a lot of miles on the road. That 10 minutes a day to recharge translates to thousands of dollars in fuel savings. Plus it performs like a sport sedan? Its like getting a Mustang performance with a Prius’s fuel economy. Thats amazing.

Gasoline vs electric cost savings in excess of $6K. Car is materially faster at sub 3.1 seconds vs initial delivery. I took delivery of a Model 3 Long Range a few months ago. First item. -- I installed acceleration boost. So now I have a car with 355 miles of range and can do 0-60 in 3.7 seconds. It's brilliant. Best car I've ever owned by a really big margin(previously BMW and Lexus owner). One small nitpick about it -- road noise is a bit loud at speed compared to my BMW 3 series. However, the sound system is so good I can usually drown it out with music. Wife cant wait for her Toyota lease to end then she will also get a 3 series. Oh, and the 1 pedal driving? I freaking love it. Not having to constantly switch pedals is really nice. I can't imagine going back now. Bonus of not having to replace my brake pads ever. Maintenance on this thing? Rotate your tires and windshield wiper fluid.

    You have to replace your brake pads, the computer uses the brakes still to slow down.

  • @blower1

    @blower1

    2 жыл бұрын

    You will still have to replace your pads, usually well before they are used up they are ruined. A common problem with EV's and their regenerative braking is the pads get very little use and as a result rust as moisture is never burnt off, they also get messed up with dirt & grit and begin to break down. This also usually results in the discs, especially the rears, becoming very scored, sometimes so badly that they become an MOT failure - at the very least an advisory. It is also not uncommon for Tesla's to have the pads begin to separate from the backing plate (as a result of rust and moisture causing the glue to fail). UK roads in winter with our salt grit really accelerate the death of brake pads on an EV. The brake fluid should also be changed, like any other car, I believe every 2 years it should be tested and will probably be needed after 3-4 years at least. Cabin filters also need to be changed unless you like the smell of old sweaty socks every time the A/C comes on. Brake pads, brake fluid, cabin filter, door hinges & seal lubrication all need and should be done at regular intervals - just like an ICE car. In addition, with the model 3 - if you have the pre-facelift model, it also had a 12v lead acid battery that is usually dead in 3-4 years so that needs to be changed too. This has been upgraded to a relatively small LiFePo4 battery in the 2021 facelift models. It's a myth that there is no servicing on an EV - the only thing that is different to a modern petrol car is no oil change and spark plugs @ 40k ( air filters now on petrol cars are @ 50k now with annual inspection. Fuel filter is no longer a service item on petrols)

    I've had my M3P for just 8 months and i have done over 15000 miles as this is the cheapest 500hp+ car for travelling long distances and refuelling than any thing i previously had. Free charge at work, and many resorts and hotels i stay have free destination chargers, at home i have solarwall and also use some energy from the grid that only costs 7.5p per kwh, so never really spend more than £1 to charge the car and i only use the home charger once or twice a month maximum before doing long road trips. I don't need to worry about fuel consumption so it makes the car more enjoyable. Sound system is amazing, far, far better than what i had in the 2016 F80 BMW M3 Competition. Can't wait to see the new Model 3 Plaid version with more top end power using one of the carbon sleeved motor from the Model S Plaid.

    I have had mine for a month now (22 M3P blue on black) and I love it. You get used to the acceleration pretty quickly. I wouldn't recommend the LR with the acceleration boost anymore to someone who wants performance. This is because if you want any performance you will need the 19" tires on the LR. Then adding the acceleration boost will put you at $61,490 (for plain white or gray, $62,490 for blue, $62,990 for black, $63,490 for red). Adding white interior will raise all of those prices by $1000. I bought mine for $63,990 so for another ~$1500 you might as well go with the Performance. Taking the driving dynamic into account, the acceleration is 1.1s quicker to 60 than a stock LR or .7s quicker to 60 than a LR with boost. The Performance corners MUCH better than the LR given the fact that it comes with 235/35/20 Pirelli P0 tires with practically no sidewall and the suspension stays as tight as you could want around a corner. The brakes leave something to be desired and aren't quite on par with the Performance theme but are still much better than the ones on the LR. The ONLY downside to getting the Performance over the LR are the tires. The 20" Uberturbine rims on the Performance cost $750 and are VERY easy to curb or damage in potholes given the fact that they have no sidewall to protect them. You also MUST buy winter tires since the Pirellis that come with it are summer ONLY tires (seriously don't even try them in snow or cold weather; they turn to glass). Overall I have ZERO regrets with my purchase. The only thing I would change is I would get the white interior. Although it is more difficult to keep clean (they stain pretty easily from jeans and other dirt but are still cleanable if done often enough), the seats felt much softer than the ones with the black interior. If you are looking to go electric and can afford to do so, the Model 3 Performance is the BEST way to go!

    I’m a petrol head as well, having had a number enthusiast vehicles from Integra Type R to 911. It’s hard to justify a sports car when you have a young family with two kids; but now, the Model Y Performance not only satisfies all my performance wants and practicality needs… it does it so well it’s made me a fan of all things Tesla. So I just want to address a few issues that were raised in the video: I got used to driving it my first time, barely halfway through a 20min test drive. But regardless, regen level can be reduced to suit your taste, and it’s really no different from driving a manual transmission where there’s always some level of engine braking whenever you lift off the throttle. Where I am, you actually see quite a lot of Teslas on track days. Ypu see M3P's regularly beat M3’s and Model S's so far ahead of M5’s… it doesn't even seem a fair race. Unplugged Performance actually built their whole reputation on racing Teslas up Pikes Peak. Not sure if they use the same terms in your region but Auto pilot is what comes standard here, and that is differentiated from Traffic Aware Cruise Control, which is also different from the "all features activated" Full Self Driving option. If you look up the supercharger map for America, you'll see red dots literally covering the country, across southern all of Canada, with some even down in Mexico. Add to that all the destination chargers along with non Tesla dc fast chargers, and it’s pretty safe to say yes, the infrastructure is most certainly there.. and if it isn’t in your area, it will be soon. On the other hand however, if you don’t have a way of 240v charging at home, it may not be ideal; but if you do, having a “full tank” every time you head out and never having to visit a gas station again is priceless. Oh, and the extra cost on my electric bill is about $30-$40 a month… whereas my monthly gasoline expenditure was closer to $500/mth

  • @Motorflix

    @Motorflix

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thank you for your comment. I suffer and always have suffered from motion sickness (normally as a passenger) and I found the regen to make me feel horrendously sick. Admittedly when you get used to it and drive it as such then it does indeed get better. In the UK I have never seen a Tesla on a track day and I don't know of anyone that has used one or would use one in this manner. There are far superior cars for that purpose. That is not to say I am sure they are exceptionally fast indeed on a track. With the Autopilot in the UK we have to pay £3400 for "Enhanced Autopilot" and £6800 for "Full Self-Driving Capability". The infrastructure albeit good in the UK for me is just not quite good enough yet. It is far superior for Tesla owner than normal electric cars though. I am not equip with the right charging point at home so I cannot comment on this but if I ever were to buy one then that is obviously something that would be a must. On the cost of the electricity I hear what you say and agree to a certain extent. Unfortunately for me I do too many miles for the car to work for me just yet, and the time wasted at charging points is money lost. I can't afford to sit for hours a week charging a car. I am in no doubt that this is something that will get better and better. I think the car is technically sound, but it just does not work for me and many other people I know in the UK. Yet.

    9:54 , Right so if you're traveling and you need to get from point A to B and quickly and cost effectively as possible in a car, I would say take a prius and you're on way, but you're not. If you're taking a journey, a Model 3 Perf. is a viable car to take a journey in, because at least when it comes to taking a journey the end destination isn't as high as a priority as the fun filled driving, sighrs and experience you would get from being said journey

    Funny you've mentioned a traffic light grand prix with an M3. I have been driving BMW M cars in the last 7 years and just ordered exactly the same car (colours, spec etc) as you reviewed for one reason - 20kwh of excessive electricity from our solar panels each day. Can't really complain about the regenerative braking when you know the Brembo pads and whatever rotors Tesla is using will last a lot longer. The rear pads and rotors of my M4 had to be replaced after less than 20,000km because the cruise control uses the rear brakes and wears it down really fast. I'd say the Model 3 is a far more livable day-to-day car for my family. Also, M3/M4 is not particularly good at taking off at traffic lights, they just can't put all that power down to the wheels without losing traction. And the explosive exhaust noise of the M3/M4, and the HUD are sorely missed.

    I ordered a mod 3 performance. I think it is ok looking. And annoying with the ghost braking, but in Norway where the petrol costs 3 dollars per litre, you need an EV. Tesla mod 3 is the best mediocre EV on the market.

    Hahaha I love the soulless or emotionless argument by ICE drivers. My previous car was a modded WRX with a cold air intake, down pipe and exhaust. Sorry but my WRX still didn’t have a soul or emotions… it’s a machine. No amount of deep exhaust notes can top mashing the gas on a M3P.

    totally agreed...the instant acceleration + go karty feel gives it a soul of its own...ICE drivers think that the sound of an exhaust = soul, and silence = no soul...thats pretty shallow. Also have to disagree with the track comments...I've taken mine on a track and its a beast...AND the benefit of the silence is that you can hear the road and exactly what the tires are doing beneath you on track to react to that, without an exhaust drowning it out.

    @@rm1626 OK OK I'll bite.... instant acceleration yes I agree. Go Karty feel...... are you mad haha! I can only assume you haven't ever driven a go kart. The track comment comes from me spending the majority of my life with car people, racing drivers, making films for other car companies, huge KZread channels and professionals in the automotive industry in the UK. None of which would take or have taken Teslas on Track (other than to do drag races, which they are exceptional at). There is nothing wrong with them on track at all I am sure, but it is just not their natural habitat. So you are telling me that a manual Porsche GT3 revving to 9000rpm has no soul, and that the noise gets in the way of the driving experience? I simply cannot agree in anyway with your argument. The Teslas are amazing pieces of engineering and a technical masterpiece, but not in a million years will they ever have the soul and character of a naturally aspirated high revving fit for purpose combustion car.

    @@Motorflix 1) Ok i'll admit that "go-karty" was a bit of an exaggeration but not too farfetched...and yes I have driven go karts before! The model 3 performance in sports steering, because of its instant acceleration, and because of its small size and great visibility feels very zippy...I've had many people drive my car describe it the same. 2) Of course there are much better cars for the track...but for its price there isn't much in its class that can compete with it on track...in the US it is actually tracked a lot...slap some lighter wheels on it and its actually quite good. Also did you get a chance to actually use its track mode software? Changing the handling balance to the rear and turning stability control off makes a big difference. Of cource you're going to find better track cars (M2 for example)...but its very track-able. 3) I never said other cars don't have soul...or even more soul...a manual porsche GT3 defintely has more soul...i used to drive a stick shift BMW M3, which definitely had more soul. That said, I do feel like almost all of that soul came from it being stick shift and it handling better...I think sound for the sake of sound alone doesn't equate to much soul...just my opinion. Also you're kind of putting words in my mouth...I didn't say other cars have no soul, or even more soul...I just said that the Tesla Model 3 doesn't have no soul. Its a revolutionary driving experience (instant torque, one-pedal driving, silence)...refreshing after decades of the same stuff. Lastly I think a car this new deserves some more time to drive it and really figure it out before judging it...definitely appreciate the first impressions but if you haven't tested it on track, haven't tested out the track software, haven't played with all the tech and features, etc. the review loses some value. I'll give you an example...regenerative braking felt super weird for about an hour...now I feel like i can't live without it...makes driving so much easier and just make so much sense...rarely have to use the brakes and actually helps in aggressive track driving.

    I still have my BMW E46 M3 manual with Dinan modifications. I also have a stock 997 911 S with PDK. The Tesla is a far better daily driver. I still think the BMW is the most fun even though it is the slowest. The modified exhaust, tune, suspension and 20” HRE wheels adds to the driving experience. I even enjoy driving my lifted 4Runner around even though it is slow as molasses. The Tesla is maintenance free and I love not having to pay for super unleaded gasoline.

    The elephant in the room, the reason why electric cars are becoming more mainstream, is that ubiquitous internal combustion engines are completely unsustainable if we want to survive as a species on this planet. Of course, electric cars are not the only answer and they only help if other things fall into place too, but they are a necessary step. Hardly any electric car reviews that I've seen seem to touch on this massively obvious point.

    @ John Jefferson Yes…it’s my friends car he charged it fully before. I don’t see why you’re surprised. Tesla claims 3.1 to 60 but real world is more like 3.3-3.4. Xdrive M4 has already been clocked to 60 in 2.97 and just braking the 11 second mark in the quarter mile. No model perf has gone below 11.6-11.5 And I can easily mod the car for way more performance

    $25,000 + more for the BMW and it will most likely go either way depending on conditions and tires of each vehicle. Oh and you still have to pay for gas oh and you have to factor in the cost of repairs because driving a BMW hard is guaranteed to blow up before 80k miles…

  • @caribbeanseas

    @ Kyle Hammer First of all it won’t go either way if you go for the X-Drive. I’ve already done 2.97 to 60 and under 11 sec in the Quarter mile. Also I’ve yet to see anything below 3.3 to 60 and 11.7 in the quarter mile for the performance. As far as on track you’re model 3 will get shredded you can’t even compare the turn in and dynamics with an M3/M4. I drove a model 3 performance for the entire summer while I was waiting for my new M4
