    Brian, enjoyed spending time with you. There’s no doubt in my mind the car is quieter; the bonus is now the doors close with a quality “thunk.” Thanks so much for letting me be a guinea pig to all your seals. No seals or pigs were harmed in the filming of this report!

    Please do a FULL spectrum analyzer test of before & after for the decibel level. I hate when everyone just does the peak number. You could have a reduction of 6+dB on one frequency area that wasn’t at the ‘peak’ but it still makes quite a perceived difference.

    I put the extra "Z" seal I had around the trunk lid too because it connects directly to the inside of the car. Makes a big difference as well - especially when slamming the lid. Put some seal behind the license plate AND behind the license plate holder. Now slamming the trunk lid won't sound tinny or metal on metal. The Z seal works great around the trunk lid - put the sticky part towards the outside, skip over the tail lights and on those put the seal directly on the lights (top). Don't forget the loop seal ring for around the roof glass. For less than $100 my car now sounds like a bank vault (that's all the door seals - P and Z seals per the "Tesla Fans" KZread, the roof (RPM Tesla KZread) and the trunk lid (that's my own idea).

    Hey Brian, after visiting you in NC back in July, the first thing I did when I got back to RI was to install these on my car. I got the Basenor ones, which look exactly like yours. For my rear doors, I started about 1/4" lower than you did, because I noticed that if I started right at the top, when it got to the bend in the door metal as it went down, when closing the door, it seemed to slightly warp the seal. Also, on the bottom, I actually went below the drip openings. That way, the extra flappy part of the seal would be just a bit lower, so when closing the door, it would really fill that gap between the bottom of the door and the top of the rocker panel. I noticed that you covered the other front drip opening. Not sure if you noticed this or not. Finally, for the rear door, I also cut it to the end of the door, but also trimmed a little extra on the lower flappy part of the seal, as I noticed that before I cut it, it would tend to bunch up a bit, as it hit the rocker panel. Front doors, I did the same: went below the drip openings for the full bottom length. The front of the front door one was tough, but I did it exactly as you did. My seal for in front of the rear door (where the back of the front door closes on) was a little different than yours. Mine didn't wrap around like yours did. Great video as always !!

    Cool. Maybe do a spectral analysis of the sound before and after so you can see which frequencies disappear, not just a slight change in dB. A microphone and audio software should be able to do it. If you have a mic that can record at a fixed level you can compare the absolutes as well.

    fallscitybob any KZreadr is trying their best to give you information before you ever get a chance to use your own ears. Listening for sound levels is super subjective and one person can have more audible range or sensitivity, or lack thereof, to certain frequencies. So...having factual data to show the improvements can help viewers make a MUCH more confident choice on which items actually reduce noise levels more. There’s also the placebo effect that happens where you can convince yourself there is an improvement when there really isn’t any.

    Hummmmmmm. Sound tests are not reliable unless you do before and after controlled test with a good db meter...…..set on the A scale. As a professional engineer, it's hard for me to believe that a window tint would ever make any significant difference in sound level. you usually have a good post...…….but this one seems to be more of a subtle effort to sell a rubber seal kit and window tinting rather than offering helpful information.

    Brian, I must returned home from a cross-country tour from Florida to California. My biggest noise complaint is the loud rumble (roar) on some rough asphalt road surfaces. It seems to come mostly from the rear of the car. I wonder if there is any good solution for damping that type of noise.

    Installed mine but I hear nor feel no difference, both with the closing of the doors and also while driving. Is it possible because some of the seals aren't at the absolute edges all across? I noticed in this video the water drains are kept UNDER the seal (so obviously meaning to say as shown in the clip, you run the seal above the drain cut-out, which means for that couple of inches, the seal is not at the edge)?

    This company uses a rope that catches most of the water. I showed it in the tint videos I have done. The computer is not right under the windshield but it is close on the 3. The S and X are even farther away. Don't go back to them to get your windows done.

    Silver Gt -- The color is called "Metallic Silver" and was discontinued as a menu option in the fall of 2018. My M3D is that color and I love it, especially since it doesn't show the dust and dirt as much as other colors do. A Tesla sales rep, whom I recently encountered while on a cross-country tour, told me that the color could be special ordered "off menu". He did not say what that might cost extra.

    Mr CarCrazy yes a have a dual motor model 3 and I have made a couple modifications as well. The biggest modification being a Satin red wrap. I plan on switching the rims and dropping the car soon. I still wish my model 3 came with the extra seals especially because of how much I paid for it. It might be the lack of engine noise that makes the wind noise more noticeable though. Also, I almost have to slam my doors for them to close I heard they fixed that in the model 3 being manufactured now. Oh well

  • @MrCarCrazy

    @MrCarCrazy

    Stephen R yeah the newer ones close easily. Word of warning. If they are hard to close now they will be harder with more seals. FWIW I also own a bmw 3 series. Has a similar seal setup to the model3 performance (and similar price). Biggest difference is the frameless Windows on the model 3 are harder to seal up.

    Brian, moreover from my previous comment, I know why now.... The vendor I bought my seals, his kit is different because: 1. front door seal only includes the bottom of the front doors, not the outer vertical side 2. for the B pillar, front side of the back door, the seal goes on the inside instead of the outside. Not sure which method is better but they're definitely different and since you're the test engineer here I will trust your judgement :-) The kit I bought is shown in this video, hope you can check it out quickly and let me know what you think about that difference: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZK6j3NZucpPdhKg.html Thanks..!!

    First : I'm not a fan of the choice you made for the dors, but the seals are very cute. Second : At 7:04 you talk about to get those doors seals, but you only show one seal. So it's kind of confusing. Do you plan to buy only one seal? Which is kind of weird... Or, are the other seals hidden behind the first one? I think you really need to clarify that and maybe re-do the video. And Third: You perfectly know what it is, so I don't even need to tell you. When you do something, you know what it is. Yes you do.
