Tesla Insurance: Pros, Cons, & My Experience

In this video I go over some pros and cons of Tesla Insurance, and then I share my experience with it, although my experience has been mostly negative.
In summary, Tesla insurance is cheap and easy to use. The ease of using the Tesla software that you may know from your car is the same way when it comes to Tesla insurance, and rates are cheap - especially when you get a good safety score.
However, if you ever get in an accident or need to speak to a person, it is nearly impossible with Tesla insurance. Which can be incredibly frustrating.

I just dropped off my Model3 at that same location. I also have Tesla insurance, Tesla app says waiting for estimates, I call my Tesla claim adjuster to no avail.😂 I hope I’m not paying my deductible since the fault is not mine. The other party agreed that their insurance will pay for the damage. Fingers crossed.

I've had a similar experience. I had significant issues getting hold of the Tesla insurance folks. The Tesla certified repair place had problems getting hold of them. In the end, the repair place held my Tesla hostage for an extra week because Tesla refused to pay the final repair amount. They eventually took pity on me and released my car while they worked out the payment with Telsa. I still have Tesla insurance because it is so much less expensive than everyone else.

I’ve had to use Tesla insurance twice and it went well. I was in a collision (driver hit me) and I filed a claim. Driver didn’t have insurance. Owner of the truck didn’t have insurance. The only thing that annoyed me was Farmers. Apparently the owner cancelled his insurance before I got hit and I needed a letter from Farmers stating it to provide to Tesla. I thought Tesla should’ve been contacting Farmers but in the end I wasn’t charged a deductible. So, no complaints from me.

I work the evening shift and drive home between 11pm and midnight weekdays. The tesla app has a safety score simulator and if I start off at a safety score of 100 and I just modify the Late Night Driving metric factor only, the simulator shows it drops from a score of 100 at $109/month to a score of 87 at $207/month. I have a 2022 M3P with a low deductible. You're safety score will get dinged on the highway because you need like 4 car lengths lead ahead of you and when people cut you off it does ding your score, but with FSD your safety score isn't effected (FSD also does not improve your safety score.) Also the safety score is tied to the car so multiple drivers will effect the score.

Hello some people have to leave for work at that time like me !!! Ridiculous. I just want to drive my car the way I want to drive and not have big brother watching over me. That is why I don't do the other types of devices that other insurance companies utilize to essentially do the same thing to be able to offer a cheaper rate. There are so many variables for example hard braking lets say a car cuts you off , hello hard brake. No thanks and not being able to get a hold of actual person to talk to in a time of need , no thanks. I'm a good driver. I have StateFarm and their customer service is great. My insurance only went up 90'sh dollars when I got my reengineered M3 LR last month and I'm ok with that especially knowing I can have a live person talk to me when I'm going through a traumatic event. Some insurance company regardless of outcome of subrogation, whatever is recovered, you get your deductible repaid first. Some insurance your the last to get repaid. In my opinion, and it’s just my preference, even when someone else is at fault I rather go through my insurance and have them figure it all out. That’s what in paying them for, and I use a smaller company out of Ohio. If we’re making progress every 3-5 days I call that success in Insurance land, and usually my car is either settled/repaired, and subrogation is complete in 60-90 days days aprox. If I don’t have progress every 3-5 business days I’ll speak to someone else or my agent, we’ll make a plan by when to give the person more time or to follow up with someone else. I become the squeaky wheel and they just want me to go away and go back to paying my insurance 😂

@@vegasteslafamily lol...well my last purchase was with honda that took about 6 hours with similar finance. But the car was on site and we drove it home the same day. Any questions I had I could ask a team of people and they were answered professionally. I guess im old school but I like a bunch of people going to work for me they want to sell the car and are highly motivated to get banks moving forward.

I am sorry to hear about your bad claim experience. FYI Tesla is not an Insurance company. The actual insurance carrier is State National Insurance Company Inc. There is a good reason why the rates is “Cheaper “ than other carriers: they don’t have insurance agents and don’t hire enough professionals adjusters like the big carrier such as State Farm. You get what you pay for.

Wow 😮Elon definitely needs to crack the whip in his customer service department…bad customer service is the most frustrating thing customers have to deal with…I would with Geico or Progressive. Allstate customer service is suck as well. They assign you an agent but like you said no luck that agent ever respond!

@@IceManGav1we pay $250-280/month. Tesla is typically cheapest. But you get what you pay for. Is it worth saving a few extra bucks to potentially deal with this? This is the reason I made this video, to help you answer that question.

Sorry but Teslas are for people who can’t afford Ferraris. EVs all across the board are over priced beta products. You would be better off paying off your house. If you don’t own hard asset real estate it is most likely that you are still wasting your money on pie in the sky junk that depreciates the minute you drive off the lot.
