I pay $190/month for my Model 3 with Tesla insurance. The cheapest quote I got from competitors was $430.

I wouldn't say I like that late-night driving score. I work till 12am and return home after midnight and my late-night driving score is in the absolute Red zone which is 15.2% My driving score will never improve unless I am not driving past 10pm.

It’s definitely not for everyone depending on the circumstances, but in a lot of cases I think it makes sense.

Model S. First month the started with 90 score= $166 mo. Now score is 100= $113. Had State Farm for years , their prices were outrageous!

I had to drive like a timid 80-year-old to keep a 98 safety score, and the rate STILL kept increasing (in Texas). Stopped being fun to drive. I'd get dinged for hard braking for using the brakes AT ALL instead of allowing regen to slow me down, and aggressive cornering for going around curves in the road at the posted warning speed (the yellow signs, not the white speed limit signs). The last straw was the driving after 10pm penalty (when there's no consideration for going days without driving at all, which is the safest possible thing you can do!). Back to Geico with same coverage, a lower bill, and I enjoy driving my Tesla again!

Honestly I’m about there with you. Made a lot more sense when I made the video but it’s getting harder to want to stay with Tesla insurance.

Selling the cars on quickness and dinging people for using that power is kind of odd, but most people speed too much.

Thank you for the video you give great points on savings and habit changes but ultimately I disagree. Tesla insurance was just too expensive for me... I work at night and the night driving dings when I don't see anyone on the road was very frustrating to me. Additionally, I feel baited because at first Tesla did offer me a GREAT rate but as I made my commute and put miles on my car it changed... I didn't know they set it at the lowest miles for the first month. Then the changes month to month were hard to keep track of.... I much prefer working with another insurance company and having a consistent payment I can expect.

Which state are you in? I think safety score doesnt apply to CA. Did you have an option to turn off the safety score option for your car in the app?

I got quoted 100/mo more than my current insurance, not switching. Hardly even driven my Tesla, got it in summer of 2021, it only has 2400 miles.

Judging from the way I drive, after watching this video and one other talking about this scoring thing, I would probably be more than okay with going with someone on the outside, even if it is significantly more than TI...

I’m debating getting a Tesla, but my insurance wants $350 a month through Allstate because I have a couple claims and a ticket which is why Tesla insurance is appealing to me. Do you think it is worth it? I work nights but my shifts are 10-6am so “night driving “ would be rare. What are the coverages like? How is customer support?

Tesla insurance definitely forces you to drive in a certain way, and basically programs you to drive in a way Tesla deems best. Its basically like having "Daddy Elon" telling you what you can or can't or when you can drive. From having the insurance for one year what i hate most is, 1) late night driving where Tesla is basically saying, its past your bedtime, we don't want you driving, and 2) Tesla vision does make too many mistakes with collision alerts, and when it does, your score for the day gets dinged by a lot, you basically need to do a lot(50+ miles) of "perfect" driving for the rest of the day to recover from a collision alert.

You nailed it dude! The forward collision alerts with Tesla vision are really bad. It’s the one thing that could eventually lead me to leave Tesla insurance.

Hey @@mattbaiamonte, would you mind please letting me know how long ago did you had your first license in US, when you got the $131 quote? I have a (absolute) clean record and about 3 years of driving history and would prefer the same coverage as what you had, so to compare it would be key to know the length of your driving history. Thanks, would appreciate your help here.

C'mon. Tesla does not offer insurance in most states. Just fact. My EV was 53k. I pay just sorry of 1000 a year. A Tesla of equal value was quoted at 4200.00 annual. It's not worth it. The high priced is based on repair cost because of giga casting. It's very expensive to repair a Tesla. Many are written off. Good for you that you are in a state where Tesla insures. Most of us are not. Now if you had FSD and the car makes the mistakes then how do they calculate your insurance? More untruths about Tesla on KZread
