It's happening because the pedal underneath is smooth plastic and the adhesive is rigid or doesn't grip the plastic well, so when the plastic bends from people not pushing it right, as in pressing just the top of the pedal, not from heel up, it causes the adhesive to separate from the plastic and just stick to the metal part. This is an issue due to the material choices. If they use a stronger flexible adhesive or a more rigid material for the pedal underneath, it'll be ok. I was actually surprised to find that the pedal is plastic underneath. I haven't been able to get mine to separate though I can definitely see how it can be an issue. The single screw at the bottom might not be sufficient. It'll keep it from sliding up, but if the glue separates, then the top will become flappy, even if it doesn't cause a safety issue, that's still not a good solution. It'll likely need a screw at the top as well. I wouldn't be surprised if they had a round 2 recall, but only time will tell.

Great explanation of what is happening. I agree I haven’t had any issues but I do press the pedal from the heel area

Once again it’s a big pie in the face for Tesla 🤦‍♂️ The big problem is the showrooms are getting all these trucks and they let them sit there (many locations have 30 some trucks). Do they prep them for delivery? no. They should have be prepared when they got off the delivery trucks, be ready so when the rivet is put in it’s ready to go immediately to the customer. Now I have to wait even more.
