The animators did such a great job, the rapid background changes and Shimazaki casually appearing behind people really made it look like some next-level teleportation instead of the usual DBZ super speed effect.

@@DandyZero ONE's writing can be described as "efficient". He skips the niceties and gets straight to the point. His characters, too, act in the most logical ways that suit their beliefs. Every battle, dialogue, even the little accidents happen for very deliberate reasons.

It was something that I really appreciated about Mob Psycho. After seeing Ritzu lose to Shimazaki so badly, I assumed that all of the cast except for Mob would be useless. Was pleasantly surprised to find that Teruki and company held their own (until Shimazaki used Mind's Eye, of course).

Well... Teru acknowledges Ritsu as just plain simply "Mob's little brother", which I find is kind of sad because Ritsu is only a year younger than him and _has a name, Hanazawa look-at-me-Kageyama-kun-I-have-a-handsome-haystack Teruki ._ It does make sense though as Teru respects Mob immensely and strives to be like him while Ritsu is just. there. like remember when I shook your hand and traumatized you to assert dominance. haha good times

Just an afterthought, but I still think they have a lot of work to do before they consider themselves on equal grounds and I feel that their personality + morals would clash, but if you enjoy their relationship I respect that! I'm not trying to ruin your perception of it by saying (jazz hands above) all that. But it's pretty clear in my eyes that they aren't exactly what I would define as "close friends". I do agree that Teru uses the nickname "otouto-kun" in a friendly context and like I said, I'd love to see them interact more since their friendship isn't shown much in the series. Sorry that it's a pretty long afterthought so I applaud you if you made it this far! Thank you for reading a random and poorly made analysis from a stranger

Teru is my favorite character in the show. Not only he improves his technique after every fight he's in, he really did learn his lesson and changed for the better. It's so nice to see that he didn't evolve into someone who relies only on his psychic power and uses it for wrong things.

I love that Teru is a legit prodigy. He knew this at a young age and got cocky and stagnated in his growth in his powers and personality, until Mob humbled him and now he’s 100x more powerful than he used to be.

1:40 I love how they used teru's theme from season 1 here. it just reminded me how much his character has developed, which I thought was a really neat touch.

1:31 It's great that when teru was introduced his theme song was poking fun at how seriously he takes himself. now it actually makes him seem cool

I loved this scene; In a series where everyone is overshadowed by some overwhelming strength(Mob, Saitama, Saiyans) its nice to see where other individuals unique skills lie, Terus being able to learn and adapt quickly, seeing as hes taken in many others psychic abilities and learnt to make them his own. Personally he is my fav character

I think if this was a typical Shounen series, Shou would definitely be the protagonist. Everything from his straight forward personality to the fact that his dad is a final boss villain just screams "main character".

Can we take a moment to appreciate the relentless punishment Teru managed to TANK here?! I mean he's taking that beating better than most none Mob and Super 5 tier Espers. I'm honestly convinced if he was the same age as Mr Instant Transmission over here he could have won this fight one on one. I'll be it with extreme difficulty

Probably one of my favorite uses of teleportation in animation. The way they frame it is incredible. Showing the background mainly shifting as opposed to just him is a great way to visualize it.

Never noticed it until now. but yusuke fired 4 shots and shimazaki only stopped 3 bullets. He wasn't just stating that the manhole hit him. he was proving a point

Teru really ate that entire beating and licked the plate clean. And he's still recovering from his first battle against him. Even though he lost again I still give him major props.

Studio bones. There's no words to how amazing you are.

The fight is awesome, but the main reason why I always come back to rewatch this is because Teru's scream at 0:40, his laugh at 1:25 and the delivery at 1:40. Teru's voice actor was incredible in this episode!

Teru's laughter when Shimazaki declares himself the world's 2nd strongest esper is one of the best little bits in the entire show.

Shimazakis teleportation is probably the best I have ever seen the power used in any medium not just anime it's just clean af

1:25 I fucking love this scene. The laugh and the following sentence. It's like teru was a veteran who had knowledge of a thousand years talking to a rookie who thinks he's seen the whole world. Telling him to sit down boy. You know nothing. In a way reminded me of when Zoro met Mihawk and thought he was the shit. I really think people sleep on this scene. Just so badass how teru praises mob in such a way. And then shima not even worried about it? Don't know why though. If I was beating my enemy by just playing around and then they say that you're dreaming if you think you're as strong as you think? I'd be fuckin anxious and worried to know.

The camera motions are some of the best I’ve seen in animation. I love the the use of perspective to make the battle seem huge.

Teru’s voice acting is so on point, Matsuoka is amazing as always

Changing the background instead of the blind guy's position on the screen is such a good way of selling the teleporting ability and not it looking like super speed.

@@QuayloZX the cut was indeed from one of Sakurai's bullets. Its a neat visual cue to show he only blocked 3 but as OP mentioned you can hear 4 gunshots prior, adding to the manhole cover this gives them the idea that Shimazaki is not as invincible as he claims he is.

Can we talk about the skills Teru showcases here? In all his fights, Teru is at his best analyzing opponents. It's super easy for his opponents to get a rise out of him at the beginning of the show, and whenever they do he just starts slamming his most basic moves like he has to prove something, but when he takes a second to observe his enemies moves and thinks about his next strategy? Keeping calm in the face of possible failure? That is when Teru shines.

I have rarely laughed harder than I did when Reigen showed up and used SELF-DEFENSE RUSH!!!!!

But he couldn't defeat Reigen💅

Sharingan has finally awakened

So, everything in this fight is absolutely stunning, but the part I think about most often is 0:37 to 0:42. There are so many awesome techniques being used by everyone, that Teru's apparent panic and desperation when he resorts to chucking everything in the room at Shimazaki is incredible. We find out that Teru was really trying to gain an understanding of Shimazaki's fighting habits, but that moment of struggle and lack of developed technieque that we've otherwise come to expect of Teru is truly incredible.

They've learned well from Reigen. No 1 on 1 fights. Jumping a blind man is the way to go.

I've rewatched this scene a dozen times or more. It never gets boring.

"You're just an ordinary man, even I'd be able to beat you" *Proceeds to fight him with 7 people*

one of my favorite parts of this scene was the portrayal of teleportation. It was shown from a third person view, but we travel with shimazaki to the new location. that is so cool

Mob Psycho is soo underrated. I hope more people notice this anf it better be in atleast the top 5 anime this year

Yeah, its so hard to get people into it because they are sceptical of the animation quality is not "pretty".

don't get me wrong teru did some work but lets give a hand to the ex-scar members for trying. anyways, i love the character development in this anime. along with this top tier animations its just blowing my mind.

That 6 Paths of Pain Ultimate. Just needed to stab him in the back together when he hit the ground and it would've been flawless. Lmao
