Unlike many BBC Radio presenters now, Sir Terry Wogan was worth every penny of licence fee money paid to him to his Wake Up To Wogan on BBC Radio 2. Today, hardly any of the BBC Radio 2 presenters have even a 10th of his talent and charm on the radio, which is why sadly I rarely listen to Radio 2 anymore, and I have moved over to commercial radio.

Totally agree re Wogan. Also don’t listen to #bbcradio2 any more. Terry Wogan and Ken Bruce THE voices and talent. Today’s lot no thank you.

The presenters who are on Radio2 these days all love the sound of their own voices, switched off as soon as the massively irritating Zoe Ball had the breakfast slot

In fact, a lot of the Irish never liked Terry when he left RTE and went to work for the BBC. There is a phrase in Ireland called a "West Brit", a very derogatory term which means to describe anyone who believes British (i.e. English) culture, goods or whatever to be invariably superior to their Irish counterparts. A lot of RTE presenters resented Terry's success. Pure envy that was it.

In my opinion, we have some brilliant and talented entertainers from Ireland. Most of the good ones anyway will move to the UK for work, because that's where the money was and still is. Thin Lizzy, The Cranberries, U2 i believe, Graham Norton, Sir Terry, and so on are some examples of brilliant acts that moved out of Ireland for work. I haven't heard anything bad said of them, more I've heard is admiration and great respect to see fellow Irish making it mainstream and successful. Terry included, he was a great presenter and radio host. I'm part of the new generation and without listening to him while he was alive, watching and listening to him now is great. I asked my older generation of their opinion of Terry, they seem to like him. I think maybe in your circles people disliked him, and I am sure there's b and lower tier entertainers from Ireland that were envious of Terry, mainly cause they couldn't break into the UK. Also west brit is a term I've been called, due to being from Dublin, the streets of North Dublin. I enjoy plenty of Irish and British media, there's plenty to be enjoyed. I have a strong strong love for Ireland, our history and culture. I enjoy British tv but I would put Ireland above the British anyday. Even still, I am called a west brit. Its a slag, and it's harmless, but its untrue. So from my experience it can be used for Irish to refer to the 'posh' from Dublin and those counties, even if you're from an area of North Dublin where its very rough and it's far from posh, clean and nice.

Poor Terry. He looked rather uncomfortable, maybe because he was secretly quite shy, or wasn't good the other side of an interview, or because he came from a politer world and found some of the questions inappropriate. Can anyone who was a fan of him explain what's going on?

Great broadcaster but he became very overweight and unhealthy. Nothing to joke about it probably killed him.

I don’t think the fact he was overweight or perhaps unhealthy tarnished his reputation one jot. What a strange thing to say.
