I attended the Iowa wrestling camp the summer before my senior year of high school in 1992. On the next to last day of camp Terry was instructing our afternoon session. Following the session I approached Terry and asked if he would drill with me for a while. He said he was busy, but if i met him the next morning at 8:00 (an hour before the morning session), he would drill with me and show me a few things. My roommate and I showed up at 7:50 the next morning and the only person in the gym was none other than Terry Brands, laying on the mat using his shoes as a pillow. As I approached he opened one eye and said nothing. I said "excuse me Mr. Brands, but you said if I showed up at 8 you'd wrestle with me". He opened the other eye and said "I suppose you'd like me to put my shoes on". "If you would like", I responded. Now, I thought he was going to drill with me and give me tips, and give me instruction. I learned a lot that day but there was no instruction involved. Instead I got the worst beating on my life. As the 9 o'clock hour approached I thought surely Terry would relent and let me join the group to warm up for the morning session. I was wrong, apparently Terry thought I was warmed up. As a result he continued to kick my ass for another 15 minutes, sometimes falling over wrestlers who happened to be stretching out in the spot where Terry intended to slam me to the mat. It wasn't until the several hundred wrestlers in the gym were broken up into groups for morning session that Terry finally stopped abusing me. In over an hour of wrestling with Terry I did not score a single point. Terry Brands kicked the living shit out of me, and I was a decent HS wrestler with 20+lbs on him. I can't tell you one move I learned that week at camp, but getting an hour of mat time with Terry Brands taught me invaluable lessons about wrestling, and life that day. He taught me about being tough, and perserverence, and tenacity, and I've carried those lessons with me through life. That is a true story my friends.

I know Penn States on top of the Wrestling world right now....but damn...those Gable years were UNBELIEVABLE!!! How crazy he used to go on the corners of the mats...the most AWESOME Coach in ANY sport except maybe Wooden as Basketball Coach at UCLA. But in MY Opinion...the very best.....

In addition to this and the Cary Kolat docs, id love to see films on Cael, John Smith, Lee Kemp's missed chance at Olympic Gold in 1980, Andre Metzger who retired because John Dupont was threatening to kill him and his family, PatSmith whowas at that point thebest NCAAwrestler ever but didn't do much at the senior level, Carlton Haselrig who was such a good DII wrestler they let him compete in the DI championships which he won 3 times. So many good stories.

to sum up pat, after college he was stuck behind Kenny Monday and Dave Schultz. His alcohol problem hindered his wrestling and he became an assistant coach at Oklahoma state.

Can we just talk about this for a second? Banjo and Terry are actual films. Banjo Kazooie and Terry Bogard are DLC fighters in Smash. Are you guys spying on Sakurai?
