I'm a Penn State fan, but I think the Iowa program is in good hands with Tom Brands. Really intelligent guy.

No disrespect to either of the Brands. Growing up as an Indiana wrestler I was Dan Gable everything. All my speeches in class were Gable or Iowa related, I had the Asics Tiger Dan Gable signature wrestling shoes the minute they hit the shelves .... but I gotta say, I am a Penn State wrestling fan these days. Good is good, and I still appreciate the Iowa wrestling program and what coach Brands, both of them, have done there. But in the end I really like how Cael has handled himself and the wrestling style he has engraved in and demands from his wrestlers. Its not for everyone, probably why some leave, i.e. Suriano. He teaches aggressive pursuit yet with class and respect. Anyway, could go on forever but that's my story.

This just endears me more to Brands, I've NEVER heard another NCAA coach talk about specific schools that they applied to and got turned down for...in any sport...wrestling, football, etc...usually they say stuff like "I've had some great offers, but CHOSE to stay at _________(insert school)" props to him...

Tom & his brother(Terry) were beasts on the matt. Tom didn't become a 3x champ plus has one of the most wins(at home as a wrestler) for nothing, because of Dan Gable it showed that hard work pays off. Look back at all of the wrestlers Gable coached that became National Champs and 9 straight team titles plus more! Selecting Tom Brands was one of the best moves Iowa made!!

As someone who is currently out of a job, I sit here thinking that I am the right candidate for so many companies. It's surprising to hear that Tom didn't even get interviews at certain schools. Eventually, the right place will see the value in me, just like Iowa saw the value in Tom. Fingers crossed to a fruitful future.

They no longer have a program. The Oregon University Wrestling program was 50 years old when the A.D. decided to "buy a job and a Baseball Team" by eliminating the Ducks mat program. I think the 2006-2007 season was their last. The A.D. Pat Kilkenny decided that the Pacific Northwest needed another college Baseball team. Oregon State has a team, and at that time they had just won their 2nd College World Series. Nothing burns more in Eugene than someone in Corvallis winning ANYTHING.
