Nothing comes even close to this in the last twenty years, and puts everything out there today to shame.

Damn... This match really changed my look on Cowboy Bob. He always awesome in the ring. My only times watching him was in WWF and he definitely looked nothing like this. Although I loved him as Pipers right hand

On the WWE Network there's a match between Bob Orton and Tito Santana and I watched it just to appreciate it as an old school match, expecting it to be the regular 10 minutes max of mid 80s WWF mid-card matches, but it's one of the best matches I've ever seen, like 26 minutes long and just masterful storytelling on both their parts, check it out sometime, I believe it's the only Bob Orton vs Tito Santana match on the Network

Bob Orton was is so underrated. He could wrestle and talk circles around the guys now. Goes without saying, Funk is one of the best of all time. These guys were masters of their artform.

I saw Bob Orton Jr .- Tito Santana (Intercontinental title) at Richfield Coliseum, OH. I was new to pro wrestling viewing, so I only knew Orton as Roddy Piper's flunky. Didn't expect much, BOY, WAS I EVER WRONG!!! Orton gave a 'rasslin' dissertation. Oh, yes, Bob Orton was very underrated.

Not Talking . Bob’s Achilles heel , the thing that held him back , was that he had no ability to talk people into the building . Among fans that really appreciated in ring artistry His name would sell a ticket but to those less taken with technique he was boring . Bob was more in line with sixties wrestling than eighties wrestling . I think its a damned shame that many think his run as Roddy Pipers backup was his highlight . The stuff he did in the NWA was far better .

Someone might have pointed this out, but I think this was a quarterfinal match in a tournament to determine a "world champion" who would be the southwest's answer to the larger promotions' champions (Ric Flair, Nick Bockwinkel, etc.). I don't know the rationale behind that, but I guess those other champions were difficult and expensive to schedule. Funk was the best wrestler and biggest name in the tournament, but it's possible he really didn't want to be champion, as he was pretty independent and liked to make his own schedule and have some family time. So he drew with Orton, got the go-ahead to advance but then was "injured" by Abdullah the Butcher, so Orton took his spot. I think Orton beat Wahoo McDaniel in the semifinal, then in the final, lost to Adrian Adonis, who was still in shape and a pretty credible champion. I'd guess McDaniel also didn't want to be champion as he was generally in the Mid-Atlantic.

funk was always a great wrestler, imagine having the best comimg to your house and would work out with your dad, lou thesz, pedro morales, billy watson and his brother dory and his dad. but terry loved the crazy character. but the man knows his wrestling. and his dad has own promotion so he ate and drank wrestling everyday since grade school and learn from the best wish i grew up in an enviroment like that.

"Starting on December 5, 1982, Southwest Championship Wrestling became the first weekly wrestling program on the USA Cable Network, airing Sundays at 11:00 a.m. Eastern Time. As a result of the new national exposure, SWCW staged a one-night tournament in Houston, Texas, to determine an "Undisputed World Champion."" - wikipedia Commentator mentions it being a part of the tournament, so I'm guessing December 82 or January 83. I was surprised it was that easy to pin down to be honest, I thought I'd have to dig a lot deeper.

This exposes how much wrestling is as much what you do out of the ring as in . Whats the difference between these two ? Their work is pretty much even , a draw or near draw , until you put a mic in their hands . Funk knew more than in ring performance , he knew promotion . Orton seemed not to be very comfortable with a microphone . Thats why even though Orton looks as good as Terry Funk here , he is not generally thought of as in the same tier as Funk
