Terrifying moment a huge hippo CHASES a speedboat
This terrifying footage shows the moment a group of sightseers took a boat out to look for hippos - only to end up being CHASED by one of the huge animals.
Hair-raising footage shows the massive animal gliding through the water in the wake of the speedboat - mostly underwater, but occasionally rearing its head to breathe as it continues to follow the boat.
The shocking incident took place on May 23 on the Zambezi River in Livingstone, Zambia.
Hippos can measure up to five metres in length and can weigh a whopping 1,500kg (235 stone).
They are considered to be the world's deadliest land mammal, killing up to 500 people a year in Africa.

Lol they're like a swimming tank that's aggressive alllll the time because they have no predators. Sometimes large cats try to take babyhippos but they can't pierce their skin all they have to do is run away lol

Wow. Who knew hippos could swim butterfly stroke? I doubt even Michael Phelps could outswim that guy protecting his harem.

Lol! They don’t actually swim, they RUN on the river bottom 30 mph! That’s the last animal in the world that I would ever be around!
No need to fear....unless ur motor conks out.
I don’t know if he was just enjoying the back-flow to play in the water or if he wanted to attack. I think I read somewhere that there are more deaths from hippo attacks than from other large animals and that King Tut died from a hippo attack.

what's terrifying about it?, there in a speedboat, if they were in a canoe yes it would have been terrifying, but not in a speedboat.
Hungry, hungry hippo.
Hippo could be pissed because his back got raked by a boat propeller at one time...

On land, hippos can run at speeds of up to 30 KPH (19 MPH). In water, hippos can move at about 8 KPH (5 MPH).

They're also the closest relatives to cetaceans.
Terrifying? I used to let my hand run across the back of Florida's state record alligator when he would swim underneath the dock. 1043lbs. 13'10.5" Grow a pair.

@@loveforeignaccents I always made sure his head was on the other side. He used to come over when I cleaned fish. I could throw them right into his mouth. If he had been a horse you could not have ridden him. He was too wide to get your legs around. But you're right, pretty stupid. I used to jump in the lake and jump off the end of the dock and right back out when I got done mowing and weed eating. Celebrity Resorts, Orange Lake.

@Timmy Lee But being chased while in a fully functional boat is not "terrifying".

Man, I just shit my pants watching it... I can't imagine the horror these people were feeling. Hope that ended well for them!
Hippos (AND hippies) are such odd creatures. They’re all graceful with their hippo-ey huge bodies, and tiny twirly ears. There was something comical about that. Edit: for hilarious typo 🦛
