Not sure if it's too close ranged, but Veering Wind is the best pre-boss mage weapon and it works for all of PH even WoF.

Think it's a bit too up close and personal, but the icicle staff was one of the best carries of prehardmode I've ever seen

huh didnt know you can trick the royal gem ai to shoot really far by just jumping king slime almost made me quit my old rogue run cuz of that stupid gem lol.

It’s a predictive projectile, so adding it to the very first boss was a cruel moves by the devs lol.
