I know I’m 3 years too late on my vote, but you win hands down! Your channel has inspired many of my builds and honestly continues to bring me back to the hobby when I lost all inspiration or energy to build. At one point I even threw away my collection of building materials, but I am slowly rebuilding my pile, got a 3D printer and I’m printing as many doors, terminals, and greebles that I can get my hands on. Pro Tip, don’t throw away your supplies, it’s so hard starting over…

You can use a can opener to cut the inverse dome out of the bottom of a pop can and then place it on top after removing the tab. That will give you a nice convex tank. Edit: here I was giving you a free tip just because, then I heard the shout-out. Much appreciated

I gotta give the win to Dark Matter here. Eric, I really liked this piece. It's one of your best next to the Desert Fort one - the Akira themed colors, the toxic pool, the lighting, the sheer playability of it... all outstanding. But Gert's scratch-built corpse grinder made from printer parts is too grimdark to ignore.

  • 4 жыл бұрын

Both are awesome, but I prefer Eric's one, the details and whole paint job with colors and grafiti tied it in so well with Necromunda. And the tea LEDs are a brilliant idea!

That comment about boiling in the boilers and then distilling off into the pipes and condensing in the tank. 100% accurate. I work with things that do that quite a bit in my field of work. And a good bit of it you don’t wanna inhale for too long. I’ve done very little myself. But there’s guys who have done that for 1000’s of hours of work

For gluing your pipes together to add a touch more strength to those glue joints, roll a piece of construction paper into a small tube and insert in inside the two same gauge pieces before gluing. Add glue, slide together. Makes handling the piece easier too.

Gert wins. Your piece is excellent with great details. For me, it was about the movement in his build with the conveyor belt, gears, and flesh drum. Yours is awesome but it's static. Fortunately for you my vote goes to Eric's Hobby Workshop for a couple of reasons but it was close. 1. I liked how you put in lightning fixtures 2. I also liked how you had control panels that made it look like it was running the facility 3. Lastly, I liked how on the spiral cardboard you covered it in paper so you couldn't see the lines which I did see on the other one. These are very minut but was the tipping point for me because I can only hope to be on either of your levels in near future. Keep doing what you guys are doing because I love this kind of content because it gives many of us inspiration and ideas. However, I like Gert's procedure of design, build, paint, and especially, I feel the overall result feels technically superior and more faithful to its goal and theme. I learned a lot from Eric's seemingly effortless perfection into crafting some gorgeous piece from an apparent bunch of trash, but in this precise competition I feel Gert's piece is more carefully crafted...

I love your work, and creative construction inspirations. I hesitate to offer unsolicited suggestions, but I always notice when I'm watching your final base under-painting portions that there's lots of moments when you're painting hard to reach places in awkward angles. You added these separate detail elements later and it's really cool. I'm just thinking that in a couple places you could avoid gluing a couple major elements as well, so you could spray them separately, stencil or mask them easily, etc... and make the painting faster. In this example the 2 Pepsi cans, that central cone-shaped thing you did the orange/brown paint on, maybe the cool green billboard flat surface... if those were separate, you could easily throw some masking tape on them to make color patterns, etc. Anyway, hope that's taken constructively. Again, always love your vids :)

I don’t often do sub assemblies because i build improvisationally and need to see everything together as i build. I could always take things apart before painting I suppose

This was a hard choice, but I'm voting for Dark Matter's toxic swimming pool. Here's why: Both are undeniably great projects, well conceived, and well executed. Both satisfy the brief - they fit right into Necromunda canon perfectly. The ladders, guide rails, and pipe work on Dark Matter's Corpse Farm were cleaner and more "believable". Point to the corpse farm. I prefer the paint job on the toxic swimming pool best: grimy, weathered, with some subdued colors, and the graffiti helps bring it into scale. The corpse farm just seems newer, and the Necromunda aesthetic is usually more heavily weathered. Point to the pool. The pool gets a point for dealing with the spiral seams on the cardboard tubes. They do stand out on builds that use cardboard tubes and don't hide or cover them. Conceptually, the Corpse Farm was more unique. I've seen toxic pools in Necromunda many times, but never a corpse grinder and dessicator. Point to the corpse farm. The toxic pool contained superior amounts of eye-catching, scale-creating details: the wires and console in particular. Point to the pool. On a technical note, the artistic decision to do the final shots of the toxic swimming pool in the dark, lit only by those cool lights did a fantastic job of pointing out the details, but made it hard to get a sense of the whole build in the way it would look on the tabletop.

You got my vote Eric, this build was just too atmospheric with your signature attention to detail pulling ahead of Gert's corpse grinder by a nose! I like the use of brighter colors and wet blending on this build especially!

This is great, Eric ... I missed the challenge - as I'm a new subscriber to your channel. But ... I have to say that both pieces are great work - @Dark Matter/Gerts is simply horrifying ...

Oh man... sand jokes return. Never gets old. The use of color in this was really well done, grabs the eye and definitely gets the whole hive ganger vibe down pat. The detail put into it from the little gribbly bits to the color scheme, weathering etc was on point. However, I must concede the point to Gert over on Dark Matter Workshop. The Corpse Farm meat grinder meal prep is a truly horrendous bit of scenery and a perfect setting for the gruesome nature of Necromunda.
